    Any BMW owners here?

I had two E40s (mid-80s 3-series) while I was stationed in Germany. Great cars, very balanced and a hoot to drive. The first one took a Land Rover head-on and I walked away, combined speed of the accident had to be 70-80 MPH (fucker drifted into my lane on a small mountain road). No airbags, no ABS, just solid German engineering! While TDY to Patch in 93, a Lavy LT, Army SGT and I stopped by the big BMW dealership right outside the gate. There was a beautiful 850i on the floor that we figured if we pooled all our paychecks, we might be able to afford it! Unfortunately, I was heading to Slovakia, the SGT Albania, and the LT the Czech Republic if I recall correctly; and we couldn't figure out how to time-share the car! One of the reasons I love my Jeep so much is that it reminds me of my BMWs. RWD, everything’s mechanical (no power windows or locks), and an engine I can do most of the maintenance on myself. Of course, it doesn’t drive anything like the Beemer (“the Ultimate Driving Machine”), but it is just as much fun. Cheers! M2
  2. God bless ya! I was at Bentwaters as a young enlisted pup from 82-84, those were great times! Have ya been back? I was there a few years ago, took a motorcycle trip over for a TDY from SHAPE. Bentwaters is a huge industrial park, with about a million geese in the old TAB-Vs. There is a Cold War Museum in the old command post so if you are in the area let me know as I have some buds that work there. Woodbridge, where I lived, is a Brit Army Base now, the old housing area has been replaced and you can't get back to the ops area. Otherwise, the area looks the same, except Ipswich has grown considerably! Cheers! M2
  3. Now I am confused, as if USAA "subs" out their motorcycle insurance as I was led to believe, how could they it as the same policy as your auto insurance?
  4. Techsan Did you get my PM? Cheers! M2

    Gun Talk

Another gun show this morning, and after having breakfast with some buds at IHOP, we went over. I found TAPCO 20-round magazines for $15 including tax, the cheapest I have found them prior was $19.95 + tax. I snagged two. I also got a metal bipod that works on both the SKS and AK. It is not permanently attached which is what I like, no worries about compliance. I also picked up 20 targets as it looks like a group of us are going to start shooting at Camp Bullis, a huge training area in NW San Antonio that has ranges up to 1000 yards! I obviously will be using a range a lot shorter than that, but it will be nice having the whole range to ourselves! Cheers! M2
  8. Gorenc also won the Joseph A. Moller Award--the most outstanding wing commander in ACC--for his stint as the 332d Air Expeditionary Wing commander, where he was responsible for about 21,000 airmen deployed through four Air Expeditionary Force rotations at five air bases in Iraq to include Balad, the busiest single-runway operations in DOD and second only in the world to London's Heathrow International Airport. Gorenc is just a class act, he is mission-focused but still treats everyone well and genuinely cares about his people. I hope this isn’t his last promotion, as it is good to see a real leader climb the ranks instead of the assclowns such as the former-USAFE-commander-whose-name-shall-not-be-spoken! Cheers! M2
  9. This rocks! For those of you who don't know MG Gorenc, he is one of the nicest and most personable guys you will ever meet. I had the pleasure of working with him at SHAPE, and I am extremely glad to see he continues to do well. He is currently ACC Director of Air and Space Operations, and those of you working for 3AF will have one of the best as your new NAF commander! Cheers! M2
  10. Kadena-related...
  11. Were said articles written by Doc Douchebag himself? I strongly suspect so, as he enjoyed writing about how great he was... Pure fucking fiction! If you want the reality of the situation (something SOS tends to overlook), then read this thread or ask anyone who has been under his "command." About the only lesson he could serve would be one that demonstrates when fragging is permissible!
  12. Yeah, he had that soothing voice of a 2am shift jazz station disk jockey...

Again, for those looking to build an AR, I gotta recommend Dreadnaught Industries!...here are some examples of their work... More in a second...
  16. Yep, same thing...
  17. Now this would be very cool to ride...very Tron-esque but God help you if you get into an accident! Cheers! M2

CB The US-made TAPCO "Intrafuse SKS Rifle System" with the T-6 stock uses a quick-detachable magazine system, but I plan to replace the 30-round magazine with a 10- or 20-rounder as I am not sure if this one is US-made (no markings) and therefore it may not be 922r complaint. But for traditional SKS rifles, they are loaded via stripper clips. I got ten with the gun, but I have heard it is a pain to try and use them with the TAPCO mags. Cheers! M2

Well, I picked this Yugo SKS up today, it was 922©-complaint as it has the TAPCO compliance kit on it. I know some folks are anti-"bubba;" but it was a decent deal and if I don't like it I can sell it for minimal loss. And yes, it is a cheap-o Chinese scope from Ultimate Arms Gear; but I am not looking for sniper-distance accuracy here. The bummer is that I was just at the range on Friday, and shoot all the guns that I hadn't shot yet. Now, just a few days later, I am back in that boat again, needing to get back to the range to shoot a new (to me) gun! Cheers! M2
  20. Errr...maybe not!
  21. Yep, one of the best! I also look at several others, to include the State Department's INFOCENTRAL (I think you need a .GOV or .MIL for it) and a myriad of other crisis watchgroups that offer subscription services. But STRATFOR is pretty much the best open source analysis I have found for current events. It is better than some of the classified stuff I get! Cheers! M2

    Sleep walking

OK, how about being a little more specific as to your condition and the medication(s) you are on... I am no doctor, but it is easy to Google and find out that Somnambulism (Sleep Walking) has a number of genetic, environmental, physiologic and associated medical conditions tied to its cause. A vague question--especially concerning a medical condition--will only get you vague answers and rampant speculation.
  23. Check USAA as well, especially if you already have coverage on other vehicles through them. They are competitive, I have them for both of my bikes...

Well, got to shoot both the Webley and the Nagant this morning. First and foremost, neither exploded in my face so I was happy about that! Secondly, both shot pretty well, considering the age and designs. I was surprised at how low the recoil was on the Webley, it is a big, slow round and shoots accordingly. About the only thing I am pissed off about was that I popped it open too fast and brass went flying. I was able to find all but one of them, but I kick myself for have such low SA when I opened it. The Nagant's recoil is even lighter, like a .38 but it wasn't as accurate as the Webley. All the 7.62x38R casings came out without a hitch, pretty much falling out of the cylinder as I rotated to clear it. What was a disappointment was the Kel-Tec P3AT I bought, that damn thing couldn't hit the broad side of a bard at 7 yards! I let my bud shoot it and he had the same result. I don't know why it is such a lousy shooter, maybe I need to bench shoot it to get a better idea of where it really shoots; but for a BUG it is almost useless other than scaring the BG. Most likely it won't be in my possession too much longer, I could sell it for a profit since I got it pretty cheap. Cheers! M2
  25. Rumor was his wife is related to a SecDef. It is about the only way this douchebag could ever achieve four-star rank. Hell, under normal circumstances he shouldn't have made it past Lt Col...
