In all seriousness, @brabus is spot on with keeping the flying consistent.  If that means taking a loan, do it intelligently.    You can't effectively learn while only flying once a month.

This was my experience.  I struggled getting my PPL.  I'd fly, sit for a couple weeks due to bad WX, rinse repeat.  I made little progress.  As soon as I started flying consistently 2-3 times per week it all got much much easier.

Agree wholeheartedly. Remember when our own system was only a 100 above that as the commercial requirement and we all ran around on those puddle jumpers. I think even Kareem Abdul-Jabbar had more hours as well and flew in his own uniform.

LISTEN KID.  I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at Embry Riddle.  I'm out here doing ground ops every night.  Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the taxiway for 48 minutes. - Roger Murdock

Kind of reminds me of a story from a family member who flew with SAC (B-47 and B-52) and in Viet Nam (EB-66). On a training flight in a T-33, which gives you an idea how long ago this was, he departed from I believe somewhere in Missouri enroute to Bryan Texas where a miscommunication with the ground crew regarding refueling led to a flameout and ultimately successful dead stick landing. Turns out the ground crew left the fuel cap(s) unsecured, and he missed that on the pre-flight. He did go to an abbreviated FEB common to that era and he was sentenced to hand carry a fuel cap with him everywhere he went for the next 2 weeks. Different times indeed.

This is exactly like a football player fumbling and the coach having him carry the football to class.  I love it.

Can you imagine if an active duty member was not at work, in the hospital for a few days and didn't notify their supervisor/commander.  Yet another double standard by Fat Albert...he was the WRONG choice for so many reasons.  Biden and the elitist Dems don't care, maintain power at all costs.

The article is vague, but it sounds like he was in the hospital for the better part of a week.  If I'm reading that incorrectly, please ignore my post.  What horrifies me is that the SECDEF is in the hospital for days and no-one in his office bothers to inform the White House.  I'm equally horrified that the White House apparently did not notice they hadn't heard from him in several days.  Does he have a spouse that could have called someone?  Did SECDEF notify anyone or was it the kind of medical emergency that would preclude that?  Did his staff know or did they not know?  If they knew did they inform the White House?  If they didn't know, did they just ignore a missing SECDEF for several days?  I've had people no-show for work and if I can't get them to pick up the phone I go to their house and knock on their door, even if it's 3 am.  This is basic Lieutenant level stuff that the very top of our government got wrong.  The whole situation is utterly inexcusable and the public is owed a straight answer on what went wrong.

As an OSU fan it was a struggle to watch. Defense definitely stepped up until they got tired. Players opting out to not get hurt is understandable but what if the transfer portal didn't open until after all bowl games? Not sure if that would help but it's a thought.

The idea is to let dudes transfer in time for the next semester at their new school.  If they're going to "play school" as well, you've got to let them transfer in December.

Great points. It appears the committee agrees with you as well. Personally, I’ve never thought Travis was very good. Your boys sure looked better without him last week.
If only there was a way for a bunch of football teams to decide who the best team is?  Well, at least next year we get a 12 team playoff. Why they landed on 12 is beyond me.  They’ll probably open an end of season transfer portal, prior to the playoff, so dudes can transfer onto a playoff qualifying team. You know for fairness or something.
I did find some great satisfaction watching Caleb Williams cry like a little bitch in his mom’s lap a few weeks ago.

The 24 team playoff works great for FCS.  All games but the National Championship are played on campus and the process is in every way superior to what FBS is doing.  Every conference* is represented and there are plenty of at large spots.  There's none of this handwringing over what to do with multiple Conference Champions with the same record.  Fill out the bracket and let em play.  Works great.

*With the exception of the MEAC and SWAC whose champions play in the Celebration Bowl instead and the Ivy League which doesn't participate in the post season.

I've always thought that if at the end of your tax return, you didn't end up paying federal taxes, you shouldn't get to vote (with an exception for CZTE).  You shouldn't get to decide how other people's money is spent.  Otherwise, as soon as 51% of the population decides that they don't want to work at all and they just want to vote for politicians that will pay them to watch TV, they'll get their way.

When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the Republic. - Benjamin Franklin

That sucks about your Congressman @mcbush. The only time I ever reached out to mine (Sen Mike Rounds from South Dakota), I went to his website, followed the contact procedure, and had a staffer reach out to me by the end of the day. Problem was solved in 3 days. I was actually shocked at how well it went.

In 2016 I reached out to Kristi Noem's office for help with a recalcitrant office not processing my separation in a timely fashion and got a complete resolution within 18 hours.  It sounds like South Dakotans are electing people who aren't messing around.

So a few weeks ago I'm in SFO and saw that the local Whole Foods carries a beer I like.  I head over, load up, and as I'm heading towards the checkout lanes, some scruffy looking dude is opening a fridge case with sandwiches.  A security guard, wearing a vest, real gun and ammo, tazer, cuffs, etc., quick strides towards the dude, shouts, and the dude tries to run for it as the guard closed the gap.  He whips out his baton and whacks the dude across his back, hard!  He gets ready for another whack when the dude drops the goods and scampers for the exit.  Warnings were shouted.

I was a bit surprised, not by what I saw, but where I saw it.  Yes, this was in San Fran.

I was in CA the last couple weeks and the whole "armed guards in grocery stores" thing is wild.

I hate the Container of Nightmares.  I have to take the same damn test for my civilian job and I can always hear my heartbeat and wonder whether I'm imagining the faint tones.  I'm not claustrophobic, but I hate that damn hearing test.

    In no particular order:

    - Maintain a personal logbook and check it against the HARM records every 6 months.  You can check it online via ARMS or AAMS from the AF Portal.  Get smart on the various rules about logging time.  Refer to the actual flight records reg - there are lots of guys logging their time wrong/inaccurately and spreading bad gouge.  Use Milkeep or something similar on your phone.  Having an accurate logbook will save you tons of time and stress if you apply to a flying career after the AF.

    ...

Not doing this is my absolute number one professional regret in my career.  A LOT of other shit went wrong, but this one I could have controlled and did not.

    For democracy and constitution, right?

Imagine being the poor bastard having to explain to a four star that not only has he been ratioed and then dragged on Twitter, but that he has become a meme on a subreddit.  Then imagine trying to be that poor bastard's supervisor trying to turn that nonsense into an OPR bullet.

  14. In 2016 Kamala had a higher profile as the state attorney general than her opponent, Loretta Sanchez, a backbencher congresswoman.  She also had higher profile endorsements than her opponent and raised a lot more money.  No-one would mistake Kamala Harris for a great campaigner, but she started with all the advantages and turned that into a 23 point win.  Newsom in 2018's only real competition from the Democratic Party was LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.  This was a similar outcome in that Newsom started with big advantages in name recognition, endorsements and funding and cruised to an easy victory in the primary.

ANYWAY, we're finally done in Afghanistan and it feels like we're right back to the mid 70's with the end of a horrid war, wild problems with energy, social upheaval, and a couple of political parties that have lost their minds.

    ...now, where's our Reagan?

There's probably a governor named Ronald running in 2024, just saying.

My understanding was this guy got caught because he cleaned the wood chipper. The machine was so clean the people at the rental store remembered him and when he rented it.

IIRC he was dumb enough to pay for it with a credit card as well.

Can we stand back and look at this.  I'm not sitting here happy that Biden is president.  I'm also not sitting here happy that Trump was the president before Biden.  WTF is going on?  The best the conservatives could do the last election before Biden was to put the most ridiculous clown into office.  Drain the swamp.  Liked his policies that actually made it through, hated everything else about Trump.  Did he drain the swamp?  No he did not.  Put a bunch of his relatives into office - yes.  Did he fix healthcare?  No.  Immigration?  No. Lowered my taxes - yes.  So there's that.  And didn't get us into anymore "wars."  But he is a toxic unpredictable mess that is only interested in cajoling other humans to make money.  Really RNC?  That's what you had to offer?  You gave us someone who was predictably a one term president.  Thanks.

    ...

The reality is the RNC and Republican establishment does not have the pull to pick a candidate.  It was screamingly obvious they wanted someone, anyone else but Trump in 2016.  He consistently got around 35-45% in the competitive primaries.  If the "establishment" had the power to force candidates out of primaries, they would have done so, allowing one of the more traditional candidates to consolidate the remaining 55-65% of the primary vote.  Instead, multiple candidates stayed in the race and split the vote allowing Trump to win.  Additionally, the previous GOP President left office with horrific approval ratings and does not have any pull with the party, unlike Obama for the Democrats.  If W had called Rubio and Kasich and 2016 to tell them to get out of the race so Cruz could consolidate support (like Obama did to Mayor Pete and Klobuchar after Biden won SC in 2020), I suspect they would have laughed at him.
