  2. OTS Route: I submitted my application for a pilot slot senior year of college. I took the AFOQT/TBAS, submitted 3 letters of recommendation, met with a Lt Col for an hour to talk about why I wanted to join the AF and spent an invigorating day at MEPs. I started OTS shortly after graduation. Pros: I wasn't doing PT at 5a.m. I was sleeping. I competed based on my scores, letters of recommendation, and the recommendation of the Lt Col that interviewed me. I didn't have to play ROTC politics etc. I entered AD on my terms, with a pilot slot in hand and no commitment until I finished OTS. Cons: OTS fills the pilot slots not filled by the Academy or ROTC, so not everyone gets picked up the first time if there aren't any slots left over (sts), and you can only apply so many times. My school wasn't paid for. I'm sure others on here can point out more pros/cons but those were the big ones from my perspective. I know plenty of guys that did ROTC and loved it.
  3. So..if your commander cares about you he will help your write it...but there's no favoritism?
  4. It's funny you say that..
  5. You must think AFPC and big blue dole out assignments based on merit and effort put forth in the job. If that were the case maybe people wouldn't be climbing over each other for the door. That's a great way to look at it. No need to fix the issues that are driving the mass exodus when you can fill cockpits with any stud with a pulse because you can "lock them in" for longer than you can a FAIP.
  6. He wasn't a FAIP, and there was an IFF tour in there somewhere, but the rest is spot on.
  7. God bless you.
  8. Multiple current IPs, including those who flew with him as a student, went to bat for him.
  9. No skeletons. If that were the case i could understand it.
  10. Phenomenal dude. Bros are less than happy about it..

There are a few weapons school papers about the instructional debrief and how to develop DFPs that I found helpful.

  14. They're all in the same flight.
  15. Dude, never pass up the opportunity. Trust me, the sooner you learn this the better life will be.
  16. Lets not kid ourselves, SPs aren't looking outside anyways. Yeah...apparently being able to see the RWY wasn't in the specifications.

T-6 FAIPs that went through T-1s?

So you want to send Captains finishing up a T-1 FAIP tour to go through -38s and then to IFF, or just straight to B course?
  19. There were 3 AD. The two T-6 FAIPs were husband/wife -38 studs.

    Nope. Not at XL.

  23. https://fightersweep.com/5932/memoriam-dale-shillington/ Just to give you an idea of what kind of officer/pilot he was. He was an even better dude.
  24. The quantity over quality mantra is the name of the game at UPT right now. IFS was changed to IFT because "screening" is too harsh. I spoke with an IFT IP a few days ago and he said the washout rate in IFS was around 10%, and now it's around 3%. T-6 IPs are kicking studs to multiple CRs before they get washed out. From what I understand unless they quit everyone returns from their first CR. Guys have been non-vol'd to -38s to fill the increased student load.
  25. Ya, and what are they going to do with late Captains that only have MC-12 and T-38 IP time when they get done with the UPT gig? Not a rhetorical question. Can they (if they even want to by then) go to IFF or should they expect ISR/Heavy/RPAs?
