  1. I think the short documentary was done very well. As for the the idea of printing firearm parts... - I can brew my own beer - I can make my own hard alcohol - I can grow my own pot ...get the idea? Banning/regulating certain items only keeps the honest people more honest as people will always find a way to get what they want and thus do what they want to do. This is something liberals, and even many conservatives (ie the drug war) don't understand. You can't legislate morality and behavior as a means to keep people from doing something. If you could, nobody would be doing illegal drugs and nobody would have had any liquor during prohibition...and then you wouldn't have had any of the organized crime associated with trafficking it. Oh, and another classic--liberals say that if you ban abortions that women will find a way to still have them and more than likely many of the procedures used to abort will be far more dangerous (which I agree), so therefore we shouldn't ban them...but yet they want to ban other things? The counter-argument often made is then that we shouldn't have any laws at all? And I would say that laws against actions that directly affect others are important--ie you can drink yourself silly in your house, but once you get in that car and begin an action that could harm somebody, then it becomes a different story, so there should be laws against it in order to enforce punishment. My guns sitting in the gun safe don't do anything by themselves but the second I take them outside and start shooting around a neighborhood I have begun an action that could harm somebody. Here's a question to ponder--I wonder if the ATF will eventually start requiring barrels to be stamped with a serial number so as to be considered a regulated item?

  2. Wrong. If I'm WVR with someone, I don't care what their RCS is, because I'm looking at them with my eyes. OK, suppose they meant BVR and my RCS increased when I push the pickle button to launch a missile. Let's talk about what that actually means: 1) I've already seen him, created a launch quality que, and am shooting at him 2) So my RCS increases when the door opens, a missile pops out, he gets a lock on me. Then the missile goes away, the door closes, and depending on my range and flow, I either leave or ensure merge cleanup and watch his "Mighty Dragon" die. But as soon as my door closes...can his radar maintain the lock? Maybe...maybe not. Suppose I'm not using an AMRAAM but an AIM-9 instead and that's why my missile is hanging out in the windstream. I'm probably not doing that at range, so I revert to my comment about being WVR...it doesn't matter what my RCS is because we're staring at each other across the circle. I hate it when people who don't know about things talk as if they do. I hate it a lot. Maybe I'm doing it right now but don't realize it. Whatever. edit to add paragraph about AIM-9.

  6. That analogy sucks; people who buy lottery tickets are dumb; people who leave active duty for the ANG/AFRC are smart.

  8. I shouldn't have watched last night's episode. It was good, but definitely brought back bad memories. It is tough to watch, but I love that this show attempted to displayed the tragedy and insanity of war. 99.9% of Americans don't understand what is going on to the men and women serving over there. Picking up the dead and dying day after day can do incredible things to your sense of normalcy. It is surprising how normal a GSW can seem on a daily basis. I still remember my first missions over there and just thinking...this is insane. We go out and see the worst of the worst...when we get back to the TOC, dudes (officers and enlisted) just go back to playing X-BOX or whatever they were doing. I always encouraged my crew to check up on our really bad patients when we got off shift. It wasn't for everyone, but it made me feel better. It is hard to describe what war really looks like...and granted, we are only there to pick up the wounded. We are rarely in the actual fight that caused the injuries, but it is still impossible to describe. The look of desperation, fear and chaos seeing the injured carrying the dead to the helicopter is impossible to really describe. I don't give a ###### who does more missions, who's balls are bigger...I am just glad that someone is there to be there for the men and women on the ground. Cheers to Tricky, Dustoff and Pedros alike.

  9. Dude. My roll is pretty slow compared to yours. Here's some facts: Slander: Joined BODN Jul 2005, 154 active posts. NSPlayer: Joined BODN Apr 2008, 1977 active posts. When I post I think about it for a very long time before I do, and then I usually don't. I triple dog dare you to try that on for size, just see how it feels. Just the tip, just for a little bit if you must. Ball busting aside (sts), to answer the original question, I don't think UPT dudes are going to a UAV directly outside of the guard/reserve guys. Nowadays it seems like most dudes are 11M types or 18U direct.

  10. Dude. Is there a topic on this message board you don't feel compelled to respond to? I mean, for God's sake... 1) You haven't been to UPT 2) You're basing your opinion on...what exactly? Not seeing a UAV in the assignment night thread, but you still answer yes? And then say "oh yeah, nevermind. Someone else answered better than me..." 3) Not everything in the world revolves around navs and clock2map2gnd1!!1!! I get that you're really into politics and public policy and you like defending your thoughts in those threads. What I don't get is your inability to STFU when you don't know what you're talking about. Please stop, you're embarrassing yourself. Before you hit the "post" button and probably before you speak in public, think to yourself "do I know what I'm talking about here? Is it my place to speak on this topic?" If the answer to either of those isn't "Yes" with no caveats, don't. It's way better for everyone. It's kinda like a debrief, "was I directly spoken to? Can I answer this question in one word or less? If I answer this question is it possible to be seen as quibbling? Am I really sure this is the right time for me to speak?" /rant.
