Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves

ANG & AFRES discussion area. Bums can search for flying opportunities with other units.

  1. Started by VigilanteNav,

The Air Guard, MAFFS, and Herk communities (and world) lost three great heroes on Jan 23, 2020. Captain Ian McBeth (Lt Col, MT ANG), First Officer Paul Hudson ((Lt Col (Ret) Marine Corps)), and Flight Engineer Rick DeMorgan, Jr. (18 year USAF FE vet) perished while fighting the fires in Australia. Personally, I was a Navigator in the Montana ANG with Ian for three years and I can't think of any pilot who I'd rather go into combat with. Please, do not speculate on this thread as to the cause of the crash. I just want this thread to be a memorial for those who knew any of these three aviators. We will find out about the details of the crash in due time. …

Hey all, was doing some research on guard units here in AZ and in trying to cast a wide net, I shot resumes over to the 161ARW and the 162d Wing. Going through the 162d wing site I saw they operate RC-26s under the 214th group in addition to F-16s but cannot find any info other than that. I would really like to shoot an application over to RC-26s on top of the 16s as it seems like an interesting mission and is close to home. Does anybody have any contact info or possibly any leads on if they hire for UPT slots? I have a feeling that they might not even operate the RC-26 anymore but can't find info on that either. Thanks in advance for the help guys!

  3. The 192D Airlift Squadron, located at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport is currently hiring Rated C-130 Pilots and Navigators. The ideal applicant is willing to relocate or regularly commute to the local area and actively participate in the flying operations of the unit. Bonuses are offered in many situations for Navigators. The High Rollers of the 192D fly the C-130 Hercules, the premier Tactical Airlifter of the United States Air Force. We train locally in one of the most challenging tactical environments in the world, flying in the low level environment in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the surrounding Reno/Tahoe area. https://www.youtube....h?v=Nf46n2m_HlE …

  4. I am a prior Army Aviator that is currently in the Air National Guard in an O-5 non-flying position. I haven't flown for several years and would like to get back into the cockpit in the ANG or AFRES. My options are limited to only vertical lift, since big USAF killed the Fixed Wing Qualification Program in 2012. I am searching for any suggestions.

The 114th Fighter Squadron is holding a hiring board in June for the F-35 training pipeline. Please submit applications to the MilRecruiter link below. Due to the number of application packages we have received and the high ops tempo that we currently have, we are putting a hold on squadron visits. We will plan on extending invites to visit the squadron after your application has been received and reviewed. If you are invited, you can plan on attending a visit during the May drill from the 3rd-5th of May. We will attempt to get invites out as soon as possible. I realize this is not ideal for planning purposes but due to TDYs and the mission this is where we are…

  6. Background: New pilot (warrant) at a new Army guard unit I’ve been told that if you get picked up by an ANG unit, your remaining Active Duty Service Obligation isn’t a factor, because you’re going from Guard to Guard, even if you are transferring states. This seems logical, but couldn’t find an exact answer to this in DOD 1205.05, 1300.04, or 1304.25. Anyone have experience? If anyone else has been in a similar situation, when do you show your interest or intentions to your current unit? I’d think you’d want to keep it close to your chest until you get picked up, otherwise you’re burning bridges on a gamble.

The DCANG (121FS) is hiring up to three DSG positions, one full-time technician, and potentially one AGR resource. Jobs are advertised on the 113 WG careers website (https://www.113wg.ang.af.mil/Resources/Careers/). F-16 qual'd pilots are the preference, however, we will consider other MDS's. If interested, follow instructions on the 113th Wing website and email the appropriate documents to usaf.dc.113-wg.mbx.113wg-dcang-upt@mail.mil. Expect interviews to take place 22-23 Feb 2018. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Cheers

Baseops Warriors, Search function did not yield what I was looking for. Part of my exit strategy involves joining a Guard/Reserve unit in New England. My first choice is the 157th. I can get out in Oct 2018. Looking for any info on the potential for a non-135 guy (B-1/T-38) to get picked up with them. I understand that they are first to get the KC-46 and I don't know if that would help or hurt my chances. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. Cheers, Planephlyer

  9. I'm currently an IMA Major in the Air Force Reserve. It's been great being a staff dude for the last 4 years, but it's time to start flying again. I can't fly a desk anymore. I was a C-130 Navigator and prior Army helicopter pilot. Since I was rated, I thought there was no restrictions on age and rank to fly (helicopters). I was told by a HH-60 unit that my rank and age make it difficult for me to be a pilot. BTW, I will be having my first look at LtCol next year. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  10. In the future, I'll be full time at my unit for a few months for deployment spin up, but will be coming from across the country. Different than just the UTA + some AFTP days once a month, where hotel provided and rental car is a cheap cost. I should have lodging provided as I'll be outside commuting distance.. any tips on car? Or other tips in general on being outside commuting distance for 2-3 months? I also plan on cancelling my lease out of state to save on rental payments. Thanks

  11. Not sure if this is the right forum, but Battlespace Flight Services is hiring for deployed LR positions. I know several people there and the money is excellent. See the ad posted at guardreservejobs.com https://www.guardreservejobs.com/newjobboard/jobs/rpa-pilot-5/

Hey guys, so I’ve been keeping up to date on all my Air Guard news while sipping this delicious blue kool-aid they have in the waiting area at the medical clinic and I came across an article that said the AF had completed their re-winging project on the A-10. obviously, the money got sent to AD units first and I was wondering if Idaho got a piece of the pie? New wings would mean they're back in business and not being selected for the F35 is a none-issue. Will anyone in the squadron care to comment? I was curious how things we're going up there, I saw some locals through a fit about the noise. And some other news says another (albeit small) BRAC is coming …

Hello, I'm currently an active duty maintainer aiming to get a pilot slot with an air national guard or reserve unit, preferably one at the current base I'm at or in my home state. I already enlisted with a bachelors degree and I'm currently pursuing a PPL at local flight school near my base with the money I'm earning and saving up. I'm also planning on scheduling the AFOQT and TBAS soon. I've almost hit the one year mark of my four year contract and turning 24 this year so I want to begin putting together my OTS package. Should I try to palace chase then apply for slots or finish my contract and then apply? I'll be 27 by the time I'm finished with my enlistment which is …

I find myself in an interesting situation. Love my squadron but we are entering a transition. I won't fly the new aircraft for a few years. In the meantime, I would like to go back to UPT or UCT and instruct. Does anyone know of a path for an ANG pilot to do this? Any ideas? With ADOS, MPA, PFI there has to be a way, right? Filling a need with someone willing and able to fly seems like an easy kill to my smooth brain. Any info or ideas would be really helpful.

  16. First of all sorry if this is in the wrong section, I couldn't decide which one it fit in best. So lately I've been applying to UPT boards for the Guard while also working with an enlisted Guard recruiter as a backup plan in case nobody picked me up because this particular unit hires pilots almost exclusively from their pool of enlisted people. This past week I had two major developments - 1) my recruiter locked down a job in Aviation Resource Management for me, and 2) I got in touch with a reserve recruiter for the first time (for some reason I never really looked into them before and I'm kicking myself over it now) who thinks I have a pretty good shot at either a s…

I retired back in 2014 but many of my Squadron mates are reaching age sixty or hitting the age sixty rollback and applying for their retirement and running into long delays getting their retirement pay (mine took six months). Apparently when the ARPC implemented a new FSS system back in January there was a massive data loss with over 60k people affected. Many veterans who were already long retired and collecting a check had to resubmit their retirement packages. As a result there is a huge backlog for ARPC to close out retirement applications. As you know once you turn in your CAC card you are effectively cut off from all your digital data and are at the wh…

Hi All, I am interested in joining the 327th and have several questions. 1. What is it like to join a reserve unit that doesn’t have their own tails and attached to an active duty unit? 2. What’s their op tempo like? 3. Recommendations on where to live in Little Rock. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Does anyone know where the money actually comes from for unsponsored guys going thru UPT? I would assume that OTS, IFS, and the T6 phase are centrally funded by AFRC. Does the T38/T1 phase and B course funding come out of the sponsoring (assigned) unit's funds or is it still centrally funded?

Hello guys, I enlisted into an F-16 ANG unit and chose aircrew resource management as my career field. I read here on baseops that lifesupport, intelligence, avionics were also good options, but they were not open when I applied. Working with aircrew appeals to me since I eventually want to fly for the unit I enlisted into. I would like to know more about aircrew resource management from anyone who may have some insight. How often do they deploy? What are deployments like? Do anyone know of an aircrew resource guy who earned a pilot slot?

Sad news for Nashville and the 118th. They used to fly 130s but are now a RPA/drone operation.

  24. Started by Spudbud,

Will be selecting jet platform shortly in the Marines and just thinking long term. Do ANG/AF reserve fighter units care about previous fighter platform much? Wrestling with putting F-35B or Hornets at the top of my selection sheet. Honestly, I think I may want to stay in the Marine Corps for 20, but just curious if I did make the jump if I'd be shooting myself in the foot not trying to get 35's. I would assume that in 8 years there will be many more reserve F-35A squadrons and they would prefer a dude that flew 35-B's. I've also assumed a lot of shit incorrectly in my life so I'm curious of the opinion of anyone in the know.
