Gun Talk

The caliber debate is a Ford/Chevy, Honda/Toyota, etc thing that will never be resolved as it is all opinion-based. The bottom line is that the "ultimate" round has yet to be invented and most likely never will. Just find the one that works best for you, and learn to shoot it well. And, most importantly, don't stop shooting until the BG is stopped dead in his tracks!

Just received this email today. Ammo prices have certainly been fluctuating and perhaps this may explain why. What do you think?

Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009.

It has already started... Ammunition Accountability Legislation.

Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo! The bill that is being pushed in 18 states (including Illinois and Indiana) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacture a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded. Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011. (Including hand loaded ammo). They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more!

If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun!

This legislation is currently pending in 18 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.

Send to your friends in these states AND *fight* to dissolve

I'm not saying this is BS, but I was suspicious with Alabama listed w/ pending legislation. Liberal states, i could believe, but that would be political suicide in Alabama. I followed the link and then the link to the Alabama legislation. There was no pending legislation in Alabama linked. I searched the Alabama site using key words and found no pending legislation.

Snopes has this a "undetermined."

YAWN yet another MYTH; Why don't you people who are so gullible do a little research on this before propagating falsehoods.

The Ammunition Accountability Act is real, but the e-mail is a hoax. All sponsored AAA Legislation came up in 2007 and 2008 and none even made it to a vote.

Here is what happened to AAA legislation in the 18 states it came up:

Alabama Senate Bill 541: It was indefinitely postponed in House of origin. It will not pass and would have to be reintroduced.

Arizona House Bill 2833: It never got heard in any committee. Never voted on. It would have to be reintroduced.

California Senate Bill 997: SB997 has no Info on it, and died in committee. SB1471 passed and is now known as the "Crime Gun Identification Act of 2007." It was authored by Assemblymember Mike Feuer (D-Los Angeles) and was signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. You can read the final bill here. The bill is in regard to handguns and microstamping, not ammunition. It also has no wording in it that would indicate that citizens would need to turn in their guns. It could also be rendered moot depending on the technology. It is not a part of the AAA agenda.

Connecticut Raised Bill 603: The bill was raised and had a public hearing. No action was taken. Bill would need to be re-introduced.

Hawaii House Bill 2392, Hawaii Senate Bill 2020, Hawaii Senate Bill 2076: All bills were deferred to the judiciary with no further action taken. Bill would need to be reintroduced.

Illinois House Bills 4258, 4259, 4269, 4349. Illinois Senate Bill 1095: All bills referred to Rules Committee. No other actions were taken.

Indiana House Bill 1260: Was sent to committee and not acted on again. It would need to be reintroduced.

Kentucky House Bill 715: Was withdrawn.

Maryland House Bill 517: No copy of the report. It didn't pass. Would need to be reintroduced.

Mississippi Senate Bill 2286: Died in Committee.

Missouri Senate Bill 1200: Referred to Judiciary. Would need to be reintroduced.

New Jersey Assembly Bill 2490: Referred to Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee. Would need to be reintroduced.

Pennsylvania House Bill: Referred to the Judiciary on Feb. 5, 2008. No other action taken.

Rhode Island Senate Bill 2742: Committee recommended measure be held for further study. It would need to be reintroduced.

South Carolina Senate Bill 1259: Was referred to a subcommittee with no further action taken. Would need to be reintroduced.

Tennessee House Bill 3245, Tennessee Senate Bill 3395: Both were sent to the judiciary committee with no other action taken. Would need to be reintroduced.

Washington House Bill 3359: Was referred to the Judiciary with no other action taken. Would need to be reintroduced.

Conclusion: The Ammunition Accountability Act (AAA) was introduced in 18 state legislatures in 2007 and 2008. It didn't pass in any form nor even make it to a vote. California's "Crime Gun Identification Act of 2007" does not involve ammunition and is not part of the AAA. While the e-mail points out that the bills are "pending," that is false. No AAA bills are currently pending from the list the AAA Web site provided.

The AAA made little to no headway in 2007 or 2008, and there is no reason to believe it would in 2009, if it were to be reintroduced, which as of yet it hasn't. The AAA e-mail has gained traction due to fears by gun owners that it was something new, and that Obama has a part in it somehow, which he doesn't. While concerned gun owners could keep an eye out for future AAA bills, at this point, the issue is a non-issue. The e-mail is a politically motivated hoax.

I merely posted an email I received. I am certainly not generating this crap. I hate forwards as much as the next guy. I figured this post would be an excellent place for this information to be confirmed or denied, since it is in fact the "Pistol and Rifle forum." Why get so emotionally invested?

Because the internet would be deserted, all that would be left would be porn.

Well, as long as there is some gun "porn" thrown in there with all the "regular" porn, I would be alright with that! Too much crap on the 'Net anyway, it only slows down finding the good stuff that Al Gore intended us all to have in the first place!

I went in to the Bullet Hole here in Omaha to order my new XDm Custom Competition and they have a Webley in the case. I haven't checked it out yet but it definitley caught my eye. It's like $1100-1200 I think. I can check it out and see if it's what you're looking for. Let me know if you're interested.

Just FYI, I got a reply back from the Bullet Hole this morning and they say it is a Webley Mk VI, .22 caliber and it is on consignment for $1,010. They said it was in "good" to "very good" condition, all of the markings are legible and all wear seems to be age related. They were willing to help me negotiate with the owner, but that price seems exceptionally high especially for a .22 Webley.

Anyhow, it must be the .22 was a Bisley Parker-Hale training version, and may be rarer than a service model; or it may have just been a Numrich conversion kit which was made in India. Either way, it is not the caliber or the price range I am looking for. Thanks anyhow!

Because posting crap and propagating it as the truth is lazy. A search on the google machine and .69 seconds later you would've seen that it was a dead issue. Good job and welcome to the board!

Where in my post did I say it was truth? I merely asked a question in order to gain others opinions and I have yours. I would figure that the "Gun Talk" forum would be a place for such opinions. If you think that truth can be found on the internet I am wasting my breath. Thanks for the greeting though. What are you shooting these days besides your mouth?

Browning BT-99 and a newly purchased Springfield XD .45ACP

Shall we also pull out our cocks for comparison?

New guy gets owned, comes back for more, runs his mouth and gets owned again.

Boom... roasted.

M2, can we toss out some of the petty bickering in what has been a decent thread until now?

Naw, it's over and done with and this way no one will ever speak of the subject again!

But I agree, it surpassed the boundaries of good taste and sportsmanship and was threatening (albeit briefly) one of my favorite threads. So in the future please take these personal chats over to PMs or emails otherwise I will reach down and bitchslap the offenders so hard that I guarantee that they will have to squat to take a piss for a year!

Now, back to the guns!

Cheers! M2

Hey guys, this is my first post on the forum, so I thought I'd start off if the Gun Talk thread. I just added another revolver to my collection. This one I got on GunBroker:

pix15622328.jpg

It's a 1895 Nagant. This one was made in 1944. I'm kind of excited about it.

If anyone knows where I can find .32 S&W Shorts, let me know. I'm restoring my Grandad's old 1898 safety hammerless New Departure, but the ammo is obsolete and everyone seems to be out.
Here is a link I found for .32 S&W on Cheaper Than Dirt. .32 S&W The prices for it are pretty good, considering it's an uncommon cartridge.

I've got it listed now for $1,200. I've had some lookers but nothing serious. I've seen some comparable go for 1,400, but the market has cooled lately.

I would say that's a fair price. The last gun show I was at I saw blued Pythons of various barrel lengths ranging from $1300-$1700. I guess I'll have to wait to see IF Colt ever decides to bring them back. Until then, I have all my S&W revolvers (too many to count on one hand) to keep me company.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, the .32 S&W is slightly different than the .32 S&W Short. Besides, they're out of stock with no backorders. Like everything else, it seems.

Today, I called 5 Wal-Mart Supercenters looking for bricks of 500+ rds of .22LR, 100 rd boxes of .45, and 20 rd boxes of .223.

Not a single store had a single box of any of those in stock. I know you can find them online if you dig, but $13.00 or more for shipping is a little steep.

Have you tried Georgia Arms? I just bought ~2500 rounds from them and it was only $30 for shipping. Not too bad if you're gonna buy bulk compared to some websites I've seen. Sportsmans guide also isn't too bad... especially for their .223 in bulk. And if you know someone who's a member and then add the members coupons in, you can basically get shipping for free.

The best bet in assuring you have the ammo you want is reloading. It's cheaper and you can make ammo the way you want it. You can "tune" your ammo to perform the way you want it to perform out of your firearms. The initial overhead is expensive since you need to buy all the components, but it pays for itself in the end. Keep your brass and reload your ammo in that. Brass is the most expensive part of the cartridge anyway. Once you've used that brass several times, buy more factory ammo and save that brass. Rinse and repeat.

"'I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum.' Holder said at a news conference on the arrest of more than 700 people in a drug enforcement crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the U.S."

Well I'm glad we're more concerned for Mexico rather than American citizens.

EDIT: After reading the article again and looking at other articles saying Congress is urging President Obama to enforce a ban, it's clear they're using this Mexico story to legitimize a possible ban. It's frustrating, but what can you do... join the NRA and sign up a friend.
