Pilot watches
I just discovered promotive.com a few months ago myself. You have to create an account with your .mil e-mail, but the military discounts on outdoor stuff and sporting goods are unmatched. They have over 200 brands including Suunto, Leupold, Bushnell, and Benchmade. There's limits on how much you can buy, but folks are maxing out some of the good deals.

Gunships arriving at Cannon
There are a few good schools at the elementary and middle school levels. You have to be very selective. Here's a useful link for those moving to New Mexico for finding the decent schools. https://webapp2.ped.state.nm.us/SchoolData/SchoolGrading.aspx

DTS -> Next Generation Travel System - Ideas?
I hate to recommend this, but if it has to be on EVERY order, just make me click another OK box when I'm completing the order to certify that it cannot be accomplished via VTC. Just like the box I click that I understand its a true, certified, prosecutable document. It sure beats clicking through three menus and copy-pasting a statement/forgetting half the time.

DTS -> Next Generation Travel System - Ideas?
Yes please! Also get rid of as many of those tabs as possible. Utilize a graphical representation of a calendar with clicking/dragging/etc to make inputs intuitive. Major pet peeve is when a tab doesn't save the right data or stuff you were working on in a future tab gets jacked when you realize you have to fix something on an earlier tab.

Lifestyle of Helicopter Pilots
Any word out there about the fixed wing to rotary wing conversion course for qualified pilots? I'm pretty sure it's at Rucker. How long? Gentlemen's course, UPT style, or are you combined with the UPTer's?

Shoe Clerk Vol 3
The Deid thread is an excellent place to invest time. However, if you're strapped for time PM BQZip. He has an excellent powerpoint that summarizes the high points of that thread. If I remember right, the Chief slap story is on slide 69.

AFI 36-2903 and dress/uniform regs and issues
pro·long [pruh-lawng, -long] verb (used with object) 1.to lengthen out in time; extend the duration of; cause to continue longer: to prolong one's stay abroad. It could be reasonably argued that by delaying you in transit between car and squadron, the shoe himself prolonged your exposure to the cold. Edit: Stupid formatting.

Flight hours prior to UPT?
Cost of ground school = 2-3 hours of flight time with instructor. Value gained by knowing how to find an altimeter and what it means = priceless. BL, your SA will be much better and you'll get more out of each hour if you spend your flight time flying instead of trying to figure out all the things going on around you.

Flight hours prior to UPT?
I flew with at least 3 different former U-2 guys out of my ~12 flights.

Flight hours prior to UPT?
Here's the book most of the IFS syllabus was based on a few years ago. Most likely they've updated since then, but there were many pages of material that was either summarized or just cut/paste. https://www.amazon.com/Airplane-Flying-Handbook-FAA-H-8083-3A-Second/dp/1616083387/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325536717&sr=8-1

Electronic flight bags could boost operational safety, effectiveness
Doesn't work through the leather tip of the finger on the glove. It does, however scroll/select using the knuckle or the back of the finger through the cloth part of the glove.

Any type of night flying with the iPad sucks due to limited brightness control. You just can't turn it down enough. Here's an article that addresses the issue, but wouldn't help much with NVG's. https://aviationmentor.blogspot.com/2010/10/night-vision-and-ipad.html

AF Light Air Support Aircraft
Love the comments on this article. Total ignorance. So, Clovis NM. Does this mean the plane's going to AFSOC? Or is it just another example of pork barrel politics.

SOS/ACSC information
I took my family to Back-to-Back OTS and ASBC. They (and me for ASBC) stayed in a nice extended stay off exit 6. It was called the Azalea Hills Apartments. Years ago, it cost about $200 per week and since for the ASBC part they reimbursed up to the amount for billeting, it was mostly covered. Although it was a little sad having to drive 15 minutes to go to class and not being close enough to hang out with everyone else, the good outweighed the bad. My family stayed in a 1000 sqft 2 bedroom apartment while everyone else was crammed into that micro-studio billeting. We had ready access to all the good restaurants, and the good shopping. If my family comes with me, my plan is to do that again for SOS.

AF Light Air Support Aircraft
I could just imagine a couple of T-6's trying to intercept a rogue airliner. "Alright guys, here he comes, we've got one shot at this. And there he goes. Hey center, can you radio to those terrorist hijackers to slow to 200 knots indicated so we can try to catch up?" [/sarcasm]
