August 26, 20196 yr We lost a legend in the aviation community on Sunday. I believe Captain Al Haynes was the last surviving member of the flight crew that was aboard United 232 on 19 July 1989. Check Airman Denny Fitch passed away in May 2012. Godspeed, Captain Haynes. https://siouxcityjournal.com/multimedia/photos-look-backs-at-flight-through-the-years/collection_b0edddae-5428-5eff-b3a9-e747a548ecc3.html#17 https://siouxcityjournal.com/news/local/three-decades-after-flight-spencer-bailey----the/article_3208f16f-f01e-5ab6-9969-5a872a10c4c8.html https://whotv.com/2019/08/26/hero-captain-of-united-airlines-flight-232-dies/ Edited August 26, 20196 yr by Royal
August 26, 20196 yr Personal opinion: they should have made a big movie about his flight and given him the millions of $$$. Not Sully.

They did make a movie it just ended up as a “made for TV film” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Thousand_Heroes Charlton Heston played Capt Haynes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
August 27, 20196 yr https://ktiv.com/2019/08/26/remembering-al-haynes-the-pilot-who-guided-united-flight-232-to-its-crash-landing-at-sioux-gateway-airport/ Quote Haynes was a strong man, but a humble one. Hailed as a hero for what he did on that fateful day 30 years ago, Haynes would never accept that title. “My definition of a hero is someone who puts his life in danger to protect someone else.” Haynes said during a visit to Sioux City in 2010. “The fire department, the survivors who went back into the fire to do that, people who do jobs like that they can be your heroes.”
August 27, 20196 yr I actually met him once at a speaking engagement at Del Smith's museum in Oregon. An incrediblely quiet and humble man that only told the story so others could learn from it. Fair skies sir. Rip.
