I've heard the term used by Marines meaning "Person Other than Grunt." Urban dictionary said it also means "Permanently On the Ground" for AF, Navy and Army aviation. For you flyers, how accurate is that statement?

Never heard an AF guy use POG before. REMF, shoe clerk, and NSPF (non sortie producing f'er) carry the same general meaning.

For Air Force the one I hear most often is shoe clerk, or shoe.

POG is mostly a Marine thing I think. And I base about 70% of that on having seen Generation Kill...

In addition to "shoe clerk," the terms "Non-er" (as in Non-Flyer) and "bean counter" are near and dear to the hearts of some in our community. On a related note, one of my new favorite terms... "Sky Pig" for security forces non-ers.

All the marines I know use POG quite frequently in place of those mentioned above. I've never heard it outside of the marines.

Reminds me of this:

A collection of Pogs

Edited by 'E. T.'

POGs are what I used to use to get my 3 beers at the Coalition Compound.

Wrong, we used this in the Army as well, usually under the guise of "REMF-POGUE" (not POG). Cheers

I was deployed with the Army and they were pretty fond of POG, rear echelon mother f*cker (they never used the acronym), and FOBBIT. They also called junk food POGey bait and old Afghans were called wizards because of the beards, walking sticks, and man-jams. The last one might've just been popular on our team though.

I must also add "dirty LEGS", for those who weren't AIRBORNE. We referred to the non-ABN Army as Regular Army. In our minds there was a very distinct difference.

the terms "Non-er" (as in Non-Flyer non flight line)

Non-er is very common among Mx troops descriping their support brothers.
