Free antivirus download on the AF Portal

Step 1 to not getting viruses on your computer is to not click stupid shit. I haven't run AV software since I was in high school, and I don't get viruses. It's amazing what you DON'T download when you only click links you know. NOTHING is EVER being given away free on the internet, NO, she's NOT live on camera, and you don't need any "toolbars"

And much like the girls in downtown Del Rio, Internet Explorer is nothing but a virus delivery medium.

I use that + Malwarebytes Anti-Malware + CCleaner. Gets the job done.

Symantec or MacAfee will get the job done most of the time. I have an infinite subscription to MacAfee enterprise (just virus scan and not all the other crap I don't need). AVG is good as well and free if you don't want to be paying. The MSE package the successor to Defender and works well, but MacAfee always seems to pick up any trojan/suspicious script i run across online. CCleaner won't really find viruses, but it's great for cleaning up your drives and registry.

Of course, Napoleon is dead on. I avoid stupid shit and never get viruses. Stupid links, file sharing and sexy prons are easy ways to kill your machine.

I was just posting my daily computer 'cleaning' work flow. I use CCleaner for wiping temp files and the like, cleaning up the registry as well (occasionally).

But like everyone else has stated, don't download stupid shit or visit nefarious websites.

Bump with a message I just received. I don't think there's any new info (I never checked the original notice), but there are direct links for different systems here. If you don't have a CAC reader, you should be able to burn it to a CD at work and bring it home.

----------------------

The DoD Antivirus Software License Agreement with McAfee and Symantec allows active DoD employees to utilize the antivirus software for home use. Home use of the antivirus products will not only protect personal PCs at home, but will also potentially lessen the threat of employees bringing malicious logic into work and compromising DoD networks. DoD military and civilian personnel can download free antivirus software for their home computers from the DoD Patch Repository website. Note that contractors are excluded from using the software at home or on any other system not belonging to the DoD.

Additional Information is available through the AF Portal:

Antivirus Software Can Now Be Downloaded at Home

I found that not all of the hyperlinks on the AF Portal work. If you have trouble obtaining anti-virus software through AF channels, try this link: https://infosec.navy.mil<https://infosec.navy.mil/>

AF Portal users may now download home use antivirus software at the links below from a non-.mil computer, including a home computer, equipped with a CAC reader.
