Taking Chance

Looks like a worthwhile watch! Too bad, I don't think my campus gets/pays for HBO.

For those of you interested, it appears that this premieres Saturday, February 21, at 8PM (on HBO obviously).

The full schedule can be found here: http://www.hbo.com/apps/schedule/ScheduleS...E=taking+chance

Hopefully HBO will put it up on their site soon after it premiers!

Kevin Bacon was at the National Museum of the Marine Corps (very close to where I live) last week for a screening of the film on MCB Quantico.

Lt. Col Strobl who escorted LCPL Chance Phelps' remains from Germany to his home in Wyoming wrote a journal as he was so moved by the respect and honor that complete strangers showed this young hero on his final journey home. LTCOL Strobl (who co-wrote the script for the movie) describes it not as an "Iraq War Story" but as an "American Story".

Kevin Bacon apparently does a great job playing the part of the LTCOL, and the only shame is that it will not reach the wider audience it deserves. This should be shown on prime time network TV instead of some of the stupid "reality" shows they churn out for the masses.

You can read more about it here in my local newspaper that covered the story last week, and also how LTCOL Strobl's 20 page journal spread like wildfire by email before the producer contacted him to propose making a movie about his experiences and to honor Chance Phelps as just one of the many young men who have made the same final journey home.

Looks like a great movie. I've got to say that I'm very impressed with HBO and Kevin Bacon for making this film. I'm not sure what Bacon's political ideas are, but I really don't care. Given the common political climate of Hollywood, Kevin Bacon probably took a lot of flak for this. Props to him for having the courage to see past the political BS and honoring the most heroic among us.

Just watched the second showing of it. Very moving, very powerful program. Kudos to HBO for honoring PFC Phelps.

I definitely had tears in my eyes. Very inspiring, a must see. I wish more people across the nation were like the ones portrayed in the movie. God Bless all the men and women who have served our great nation and given the ultimate sacrifice. :salut:

With our daily routines, it's very easy to forget how blessed we are to serve and live in a nation like our own and what really matters.

If any of you out there haven't seen it, you need to. I had no idea it was going to be that good. I spent most of the movie either smiling, trying to hold back tears, or both. It's really nice to finally see a movie written from this angle. For so long now we've seen all these movies and shows trying to condemn the US for going to war, but this movie is a breath of fresh air. No politics, no opinions. Very well done, and very respectful. I feel an incredible sense of pride to serve with people of this caliber.

Sounds like I missed a great one.

I'll be on the lookout for a download link or a place to stream. If I find it, I'll post it here.

Don't have HBO at the hotel I'm staying at does anyone know if this show is available online or for download somewhere?
