I heard the NPR interview. I was surprised how the guest - author of the book - was actually pro, or at least understood, guns.

The NPR hack kept trying to get him to be "guns are bad," but the author, who started out as knowing nothing/anti-gun learned a lot and understood the philosophical, historical, and security aspects of gun ownership as well as getting that it's just fun.

Just a warning guys, from firsthand experience; keeping up to the 'tactical standard' after you retire can be tough! Here's a recent pic...

But hey, at least I don't have to wear a fucking reflective belt!

Apparently some short film (about 12 minutes long) about female hunters from the South made it into Sundance. A couple of the featured ladies are pretty attractive. Vid's halfway to the bottom in the link.

I chose not to go with a safe. I'm screwed in the event of a fire or burglary, but I made this decision (insurance rider is a wonderful thing) vice moving several hundred pounds of steel and concrete.

YMMV.

Very nice, Brick. Is that a S&W 586 I see?

Model 29-4 Classic Hunter

That would have been my second guess based on the full underlug. It's kind of difficult to tell frame size in the pic.

Impulse buy for me, but as I'm a closet Walther fan, I figured what the hell.

Bud's is having a special on "new, surplus" Walther P1s still in the original packaging for $399 delivered to your FFL.

Since I've only ever seen used ones for approaching $500 or more, I clicked.

As to safes... I've got one that is 1200 pounds. It makes me $600ish on each DITY move I've done. All you need is a rented pallet jack and a couple pieces of PVC pipe. Get a couple friends - your real buddies typically will help you move a safe if you let them shoot your cool toys! Safes aren't that hard to move - just think like the Egyptians did when they built the pyramids. Granted, mine stays in the garage but if you require it in the house you better opt for multiple smaller safes. And the rule of safes is to decide on the model you want and then buy at least the next bigger one!

ForgotPassword - no full autos but other NFAs. What do you want to know? I've gone the trust route with my stuff but continual PCS moves coupled with NFA rules gets tiresome...

Dammit, Brick, will you stop that shit?!? I saw those on Bud's and have been trying to resist but it may be futile. I too am a Walther fan and just may have to pick one of those up.

Let us know how it looks once it arrives. I could be easily tempted, but right now I am waiting for some guy in Austin to get in touch with me concerning an XD-9C he has at a decent price ($375).

Cheers! M2

I'm thinking about jumping into NFA toys, mostly because I want an SBR. It pisses me off that a mere 1.5" makes that big of a difference (sts).. Anyway, started looking into going the trust route and would appreciate any hints/tips/gotchas/etc. For example, did you go through a lawyer or DIY? Issues with PCSing? From what I've read it somewhat simplifies the purchase process but doesn't really speed up the ATF piece?

Break -- Anyone have any experience with LWRCI's M6A2s? Fondled one just before heading downrange and think it might be something to spend a little tax free on..

Hey gents,

As a long time shooter, I know those of us who have been in the shooting sports have seen a lot of the good deals dry up.

Just thought I would share with you guys what I found for the S&W M&P Series... I have been eyeing a .40 for use in IDPA in the SSP class and USPSA Production -- maybe even roll my own ammo to make the Major powerfactor in the L-10 series

https://www.quanticoa...rands/sw/sw.asp

https://www.ombexpress.com/c-48-first-responder-complete-firearms.aspx#Filter=[pagenum=1*ava=0]

and the kicker... a $50 rebate from the factory...so you can get a top notch service-type pistol for under $400... That deal is like a sore dick, can't beat it.

ETA: If you are a Glock fan... You can use this company and ship to your local FFL

From what I understand, OMB Express is closing their doors. Bud's LE rate is always a good option--bought several guns from there and then used the S&W Rebate.

Good stuff.

As soon as S&W starts selling complete guns with Apex parts I HIGHLY recommend getting their forward set sear kit if you get an M&P for IDPA/USPSA. The trigger is unbelievable for a striker-fired gun.

Good to know. Just curious if anyone else on the board has spotted any worth while deals?

Sadly, the days of picking up a Saiga 7.62x39mm for $189 at Dunhams (East coast Sporting good chain) are long gone. Or getting a lighly used CZ-75 for $350

Agreed, but I have found a place recently that is selling them for $300. I'll prob pull the trigger soon and get one, do the conversion.

Chivalry for the firearms enthusiast...?
