  1. Well I can't be that mad at the azz kissers, primarily because I see it as "if I tell General x the truth he's going to look at me and ask me what to do about it. I don't have an answer and it would make me look dumb hence lose faith in my shininess, so I'll just say, 'everything's great sir.'"  Kind of like a stranger asking how you're doing on a crappy day and you tell them Fine so you don't have to deal with their response too.

  2. Seriously?  I can't stand driving more than 3 hours at a stretch anymore and the steering wheel doesn't have fu**ing  trim.  I broke 2000 hrs with the family on a cross country trip in a rented Bonanza. Every day I try to figure out the financing to be able afford a plane on my own so I don't have to drag the family through security or be at the airport at the crack of dawn to meet a departure time.  It is much more relaxing to look at the weather and say, "looks like we're having Cajun food instead of bbq for lunch..."

I've had it with these bullshit equivalency arguments from leadership citing how "good" we have it compared to XYZ community.   Gen Rand has so many F#$% fanboys here at RND its insane, yet every time he talks this kind of bullshit those fanboys are on their knees gulping down the massive load.  Gen  Now land and his little meeting was only marginally better and at least by the end he seemed to be properly whipped into the correct mindset (time will tell).  Before that I've heard the same kind of crap from numerous commanders when we complained about ops tempo with deployments stacked on top of TDY's, reinforced that we are "At War" as if that has any ing meaning any more after over 15 years.  There is a reason I didn't join the Marines or Army, and while those patriots at Walter Reed deserve nothing but our utmost respect, they are not to be used as tools for ignoring the issues the force faces today.  When I bring up leadership failings in a conversation it generally leads to a "well so and so is a good guy etc", but I feel more and more that regardless of how good a commander or leader you may be, your now culpable for this mess and arguing who the good ones versus bad ones is a waste of time.  As it stands the effect is they are all bad because the outcome is shit, until any thing starts getting fix'd they are all failures in my book until proven otherwise don't care how cool they were before or are now.

At least those guys have someone who will tell them like it is instead of quibbling...

Your profile states your birthday is 1/23/1981.  Like it or not, by most definitions, you are a millennial.

Oh badass, I'm a millennial too.  Can I get some avocado toast?  I'm gonna take it all back and be a libtard millenial. I own it so what big whoop, wanna fight about it?

Not sure where to post this, but this is a classic thread.  Feel free to move this post.

    BBC:

Four countries cut links with Qatar over 'terrorism' support

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates have cut diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing it of destabilising the region.

The countries say Qatar is supporting terrorist groups including the Muslim Brotherhood.

The Saudi state news agency SPA said Riyadh had closed its borders, severing land, sea and air contact.

It cited officials as saying it was to "protect its national security from the dangers of terrorism and extremism".

Egypt has also closed its airspace and ports for all Qatari transportation, the foreign ministry said.

The United Arab Emirates has given Qatari diplomats 48 hours to leave the country. Abu Dhabi accuses Doha of "supporting, funding and embracing terrorism, extremism and sectarian organisations," state news agency WAM said.

Bahrain's state news agency said the country was cutting ties with Qatar over "shaking the security and stability of Bahrain and meddling in its affairs".

The Saudi-led Arab coalition fighting Yemen's Houthi rebels also expelled Qatar from its alliance because of Doha's "practices that strengthen terrorism" and its support to groups "including Al-Qaeda and Daesh [also known as the so-called Islamic State], as well as dealing with the rebel militias", according to SPA.

Ran over after I read this.  Seems life at the Deid may get a smite crappier if they don't figure this out... Anyone out there that can cast some light on it?

The problem with the AF vs the Airlines is there is ZERO benefit to either organization to help the other. One is going to lose out and the Air Force is playing with a losing hand...

It's like a pilot with an ADSC trying to sort out an exit strategy...  my heart smiles that the Air Force has a losing hand...

One is a PCS and the other is an "extended TDY". There are differences in follow on assignment considerations. Not sure what else.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I sorted it out when I started considering the terms 365 day deployment vice remote assignment.

  8. Quick question, palace chase paperwork in, no response yet after almost 4 months.  I have 22 months left on my commitment and all of a sudden I am magically short listed for a remote?  Is this a coincidence or by design?

  9.

Well the wife and I have talked and when my commitment is up I'm going to become a homemaker and support her career.  My wife's job is super important and she works long hours with others so I'm going to start a club for the other husbands to have get togethers and build up the spouses network.  Granted she teleworks so all of our meetings (and kids play dates) will have to be over Skype but with all the things going on in the world I think there should be a better support network for her coworkers dependents.  Her job keeps her so busy and now that we have kids someone has to sacrifice their career,  she may be going overseas next year for six months or so as well to manage stocking toilet paper in the Doha office even though she works in the medical field.  Maybe if we're lucky while she's gone, I can volunteer to help set her up for success and get her more face time with her boss and maybe help her get her next promotion.  I think she's going to volunteer to coordinate the company gift exchange this year so my plate is going to be FULL over the coming months in preparation.  I also heard there is a program to be a prime spouse (it requires a week of mandatory training and being on call one week a month), I may try that as well.  What do you all think?

Now imagine if I were being serious you would think I was crazy.  Why do we do this to ourselves?

Eh, from one who enlisted under Montgomery GI bill, my take is it isnt about the money.  The money from the GI.  "They" know a certain number of enlistees will look at the 100 a month and say F that.  And then no matter what, they can never use it.

The 2400 dollar buy in is not at all the point, it is ensuring a sizable chunk of financially illerate 18 year olds will sign away fhe benefit dorever.

Which I mean is great if you're  a politician trying to save some cash here or there. "Hey I have a great idea, we can charge for this benefit and those young whippersnappers will want every penny of their paycheck so they won't use it." Screwing over the young and poor, way to go congress making America great again as always... next up is a contract for a defense contractor in the congressmans district for useless stuff the military doesn't need which is double the cost it needs to be and will be pushed to "support our troops..." thanks for your service...

AF leadership has lost their damn minds. Thanks again everyone for telling me NOT to take the bonus.

Maybe leadership will realize we need maintainers too, because planes don't fix themselves. At this rate, maintenance is going to turn into contracted maintenance.

No way; the AF will do what has worked thus far and make the rated folks fix their own planes.  And they'll commission a contractor for a web based portal that provides the oversight...

  12. Soooo, just out of curiosity lets say they do enact stop loss and I'm one of the lucky few.  So then what?  I get to keep flying the line with minimal office work until the crisis is over and then I am free to get my line number or do I become a bent pilot?  If I get stop loss will the icing on my cake be a staff job for a tour or a six month deployment to a sunny location where I can hone my PowerPoint skills; all of the above???

If I wasn't still 5 years out on my ADCS, my give a shit factor would probably be a lot lower. However when the CC says "do this" and the DO says "fly airplanes, myself (or any other first assignment Captain) isn't left with many options. Sure you can fall on your sword and will probably pick up the next non-vol to UPT or RPAs.

Hell if I was a first assignment captain I would seriously consider going to upt; especially in tones. Multi-engine IP a-code time for three years while being home practically every weekend and holiday (not to mention ftu IP on a resume) would be awesome...
