I always wondered what would happen if people stopped jumping through their asses to get orders. Just do nothing, and when your DEROS is up or whatever and you don't have orders, you stay an extra week while the FSS gets fucked by some O6s.

I racked up 10,000 in GTC charges on a PCS that went delinquent for like six months.  The commander asked me why my card wasn’t paid off and I told him because I hadn’t been paid.  When everyone realized I wasn’t going to pay it until I got paid and it started working it’s way up the chain I got paid within the next week.

With $21 Trillion in debt and interest rates held artificially low for such a long time, I’m not sure I’d bank on any pension backed by the government as fool proof.

Well thank the good lord I’m getting an extra few grand back over the next 5-7 years from this tax cut...

Oh yeah the per diem resets.  It doesn't really happen that much.  I was out for 90 days last year and got a total of 0 resets on my per diem.

I was referring to when there were jets at LTAG, circa 2008-2011.  You know back before isis ruined the alley and the Turks still hated the Russians...

  5. Every time you cross the boundary between USAFE and AFCENT it restarts the “first day in theater”.   You get full rate for that day as opposed to the $3.50.  I was still claiming it on my last deployment in ‘16 whenever we landed at LTAG.

It's not that this place is even that bad; by deployed standards it's pretty decent. It's just so much crappier than it needs to be. We're like a half hour from a major city in one of the highest human development index countries in this part of the world, and yet many of the buildings are falling apart, the food is not great, and the comm infrastructure sucks (not just wifi, Nipr and Sipr outages are a constant occurance at work).

It's not like the war is right outside the gate, this base could be pretty nice if it wasn't run like a prison and treated like a dump by some of the people that live here.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say pretty good by deployed standards...   Have you ever Ron’d at OAIX?  Ever been to the dining hall at ORBI? Ever got the flyers per diem or drank unlimited beers at the bowling alley in Turkey? So the Deid has a pool a Dairy Queen, some condemned buildings and no tobacco, pretty darn good...  Granted it’s no FOB but if I wanted to sleep in the dirt and eat MRE’s I would have joined the Marines...

Air Force management has finally achieved its apotheosis in incompetence when it has both a massive pilot shortage and a shortage of hours flown by the pilots it does have.

At this point they should just change the Air Force song to Yakety Sax and give all the planes back to the Army.

Can any Mobility guys fill in/answer this question...

Why aren’t more Mobility pilots leaving?

Annual days gone is 200+ (anecdotal)
High probability of being a UPT IP
Do a staff job there’s no fighter guy to fill in for
Already “airline ready” knowing how to use FMS, fly international, crew concept

    What’s keeping them in?

Well I can tell you that everyone has their eyes on the door.  Part of the issue is I 7-day opted an assignment and it took three months before I got the separation date approved email.  It’s still not in the virtual so I can’t begin further out processing and I’ve tried palace chasing.  Anecdotally similar individuals to my qualifications have asked for six months off their adsc only to be countered with one month off.  They are doing everything in their power short of stop loss to plug the holes...

Any recent parolees? I have a PCS ADSC that expires Feb '19 and am putting together a package to take 5 months off and PC in September. I have about a 99% chance with the reserve unit I am working with. Should I wait for the offer and or position number from yhe unit to submit my PC package or just send it now? Just trying to stack the deck in the best way to get the approval from the board. 11M

    Edit to add AFSC

You airdrop?  Last peer I heard that submitted was a lead ftu ip that asked six months off and they countered one month.  Best of luck, let me know if it works for you, my application has been gathering dust.

Frankly, I expect stop-loss at or before end FY18. If they're so willing to lose 100 dollars to save 2 pennies on the RC side, then that tells me they've all but thrown their arms up in the AC side. Stop loss has to be the only logical next step.

TBH I think it has already been started albeit unofficially.  I can't get my separation paperwork through the system to save my life.  It is literally taking weeks at every step.  At the rate that I'm going I should have an established separation date in the virtual about the time I start terminal...

Staff: “The reason guys are leaving is the huge pay gap between the Airlines and what we can pay!”

General: “I have a great idea. Let’s widen the gap even more by making enlisted pilots!”

Just a scene from a play I am working on.

How does 6 months of T-6s gain any skills that help the "tac side" of heavy flying?

And what if they were limited to track airframes that don't do any "tactical flying" such as C-5 and VIP jets and tankers?

You know what, f-me, I'm wrong.  I thought you were looking for opinions, not an argument.  I'll be over at the donut shop before step time...

skipping 38s is ridiculous but I can actually see this being a plausible idea.  Heavy drivers- would like to hear your honest opinion on this.

I think there's a misunderstanding about what heavy guys do.  I guess for certain airframes it could be feasible, but definitely not the tac side.

Any C-17 guys have any words for us?

    Tacrep JB?

We're gone a lot.  Between disaster you name it, channel/contingency missions to Afghanistan/Iraq/Turkey/Kuwait/Jordan, Presidential golf weekends and trips to wherever, locals to make up for the one that got cancelled three weeks ago because the president wanted to go golfing, during the hurricane. Turn around to finish up your deployment checklist so you can hang out at the Deid for 3 months.  Return home and hit up SOS after you get recurrent in airdrop.  Get back from SOS to find out that congratulations you will be going to AC school in two months then PCSing to Del Rio in 6 and Randolph will be an out and back TDY to save money...

...Still the best deal in the Air Force.

Most of the people I know have told me if they don’t get approved PC, they aren’t going to the Guard or Reserves at all.

You want the truth?  6-9 months of seniority is the only thing making palace chase (guard reserves) palatable.  Otherwise I'll save my money and absorb the pay cut first year...
