  1. I know folks who memorize the whole thing. Way beyond my bandwidth, but hey, gotta make sacrifices amiright? It's never the first nor the last, and if you've never seen one of those magic eye images, your stereoscopic is shot (from experience)...

  2. C-17 guys, what's the takeoff ground run of an unladen Globemaster... in the heat of the summer... on thin concrete... in the middle of a city?

Critical Field lengths are in the 3,000' range, TO Ground run is probably somewhere in the 1200-1500' range. If you're slick floor and low gas which I'm sure they were, a max power takeoff wouldn't be an issue. Heck, we were getting numbers in the sim yesterday for a 3/4 flap approach onto an assault runway (3,500'). Just in case you want to do something amazing (Like land at your home field).

  3. You don't have to trim the C-17? Serious question.

You can fly any airplane around without trim. The C-17 has certain functions in its Flight control computer that reduce or remove the need for trim i.e. Roll Reference trim, roll automatic trim, pitch automatic trim, pitch reference trim, yaw normal mode, and EOCS.

The -1 puts it better under trim systems:

"1-1000. The trim systems provide conventional surface displacement, selection of an attitude (reference trim), or automatic trimming depending on the axis, the phase of flight, and the pilot inputs."

  4. Ok everybody is familiar with the British or Aussie sounding guy over at Bahrain center who works the sector towards Kuwait. Well we were transiting his airspace a couple of days ago and this is what we heard go on.

Bahrain center - Indian flight ### (you know really Bad Engrish)

    Indian flight ### - no reply x4

Bahrain center - Indian flight ### I have been calling you 4 times, if I had wanted to be ignored I would have stayed home today.

Dam*it, after I typed it all out and posted I see the story has already been told...
