  1. I was responding to this specific quote.

The statement made is that religious zealots in the US are not violent. Yet we have seen a number of cases of murders, bombings and vandalism by religious zealots in the name of their religion here in this country. So I was providing evidence to directly refute a statement that was made. While it is so much more fun to attack the person than the issue I prefer more rational methods of debating.

If one lays aside the argument concerning Islam's aims on the West, there is a scale issue between Islam and "other" religious when it comes to violence and getting one's point across.

This site, http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/...clearly has a spin on things, but tallies the daily violence succinctly. It posts every two or three days worth of incidents. Today's snapshot - six attacks in three days. If I check the site three days hence, there will be more incidents summarized (usually two or three each day).

Without using the "Wayback Machine," please indicate where on Earth we can go to make ANY comparison - at all to the scale of violence demonstrated.

  2. Are you watching the correct hit? Here is the NHL video: bit.ly/JmRvse As you can see, When Hossa turned, he had the puck poked out. More than 2 seconds later, with Torres still turning into Hossa and trying to get a one handed poke at the puck, Torres makes the hit. Obviously Torres can't get the hint as there are 5 other examples where the league told him he's wrong with fines and suspensions for similar hits.

Look up CTE (Chronic traumatic encephalopathy) and you'll see why they want to outlaw these types of hits. Hell, even making a hockey stop has proven to cause brain damage in players and refs. If you want to see players (even high school players) healthy after their playing days are over, you'd see this in a different light.

From, an on-ice offical's (Referee) viewpoint:

While I am too old (and too awful) to skate at the NHL level (the "Show" as we call it), they still let me do college level games. We still see this stuff, but both the NCAA and NHL have had an emphasis on penalizing hits to the head, the last few years. IMHO, there's no reason to allow hits like this one.

This is an excellent video hosted by Brendan Shanahan. Aside from the rule violations, it is clear the player has a history of hits to the head. A shame the on-ice official didn't have a better look at it.

  3. From our local Fox station:

Both pilot of the FA-18 Superhornet and at least one person on the ground were taken to hospitals.

Bruce Nedelka, the Virginia Beach EMS division chief, said that witnesses saw fuel being dumped from the jet before it went down, and that fuel was found on buildings and vehicles in the area.

The EMS guy was speculating that the fire may have been worse with more fuel on board (duh)...

  4. Too true. My sister plays Tier 1 hockey. Too often these parents are more interested in arguing and having pissing matches with the other teams parents rather than enjoying the game for what it is. Which is YOUTH hockey. Not PROFESSIONAL hockey. It's sad that something like that has ruined watching my (very talented) sister compete at the AAA level. Parents should not be allowed to comment other than cheering on their own team at these events. What's worse, once you get into the playoffs and state/high school championships, the parents get even more offensive, and the mob mentality sets in. Add alcohol, and it just get's violent. I have witnessed fathers of opposing teams fight in the parking lot because of something one of the kids did on the ice. It's sad really. Youth sports have lost their innocence, at least in hockey.

I also coached for about fifteen years, and the expectations of the parents are interesting. Depending on the skill level, the majority of parents usually act properly and expect "Johnny" to be competitive and have fun. Then the minority show up, and at the travel level these folks labor under the illusion that their kid is going to "The Show" (NHL). I was always gently reminding them that "Johnny has a 0.0069 percent chance of making it there - and yet, they still persist. Of course, the best demonstration of sportsmanship (in front of the kids) comes when the parents fight each other.

Keep supporting your sister, women's hockey continues to grow at the amateur level.

Yep, there was an incident in MA a few years ago when a father beat to death another father - sad story all around with that one.

    http://www.theboston...817/detail.html

Wow..when I was Googling the old man's story, this one popped up about his son, who just died last year. Too bad, but he appeared to follow his dad's example..

Yeah, that guy was extra special, and often used as an example of bad behavior. Parents living vicariously through their children - sheesh. Sadly also, the parents don't know the rules, and likely don't know what's really going on, on the ice. But they guess anyway, and that sends the whole thing tits-up.

Despite all of this bad news, there are of course, many very rewarding experiences for the kids (and parents) to be had at the local rink.

    Father of the year...

One of the things I do now, is referee (officiate) hockey (kids up to the college level). The ill mentality of many hockey parents would amaze many. No matter how many things are done to mitigate the douches out there, more crop up every season, and it never stops.

  6. Sad and frustrating, I think Ob is tripping on his d*ck again. To sum the whole thing up:

Obama to Karzai: "Sorry about that."

Karzai: "Thanks, but your personnel should be tried for this crime."

Muslims: Kill Americans repeatedly over the issue.

Obama: "I think my apology worked pretty well, don't you?"

    Apologies for the paraphrasing.

  9. Sandra Bullock smuggles sausage for Christmas

Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock has admitted to smuggling delectable sausage from Germany into the United States for Christmastime.

My favorite quote: "...she declined to explain how she smuggles the sausage – whether through the mail on her person." Perhaps another way could be deduced?

I can't tell if the Germans are amused by this or offended...

  10. Also, ###### that guy. He dedicated his life to inciting wanton violence against innocent people. In 500 years, people will marvel that anybody took the Quran so seriously, in the same way that now we marvel how ancient Egyptians took the Book of the Dead so seriously.
