  1. This is interesting. How long is this good for? Is a dishonorable discharge now off the table for sexual assault as long as Obama is in office? What about where he calls for them to be "stripped of rank"? Does that mean that reduction in grade is now off the table too? Seems like a foot firmly inserted in mouth moment for a guy who forgot he was Commander in Chief.
  2. I realized that me and Doc are out here for the same reasons, just inverse. I'm hiding out here because I don't like people.... Doc is out here because people don't like Doc!
  3. That didn't go so well for the last guy who tried that....
  4. Well, the zip code is 39702. Google will tell you everything you need to know without me posting anyone's personal info on the interwoo. As for my interaction with this individual, I think I have seen him running a few times (there's an old guy who runs the neighborhood, but I never put 2+2 together) but I don't intend on seeking him out. With that said, I'm not sure I will have an option. I'm the only military guy in the neighborhood, and all the neighbors I have met so far have opened up with "so I hear you're a pilot!". This tells me that word is spreading around about me via the other neighbors, so it might get to you-know-who and he might come offer some "mentorship". Based on the way he was discussed, the guy I spoke with today didn't hold HWSNBN in high regard... sounds like he's the same ole skeletor.
  5. Ya nobody warned me it was a rough neighborhood before I moved in... no wonder the property was valued so low!
  6. So guess who I found out lives just a few doors down from yours truly........
  7. I'm guessing you're new here, so let me bring you into reality. There is no anonymity here. I know a LOT of dudes who post here in real life, either personally of by reputation. If you are a pilot in today's Air Force, there is no such thing as anonymity, the community is too small. Everyone knows everyone, or knows someone who does. EVERYWHERE you go, the first question you are asked is "Hey do you know _____?" and chances are you do. I have no "internet persona" here, trust me. I am just a blunt, sarcastic, cynical and direct in person as I am here because I make the assumption that EVERYTHING I post here will be read by people I know personally and will be reacted to accordingly. More quibbling. You never received the piece of sage advice of "never pass on an opportunity to SHUT THE FUCK UP and listen", so let me clue you in. Nobody here "slandered" you. Many of us highlighted the flaws in your idealistic world view, and directed your attention to the fact that answer you clearly were seeking in the first place (so why ask the question?) was not a viable answer. We did it in a manner typical of our community and culture. Pilots are direct, sarcastic, and generally cynical. We can come off as rude to the uninitiated. Guess what-- you're on our forum, so don't get butthurt when you're expected to play by our rules. And rule one in our world is when someone who has seen/done more this week than you have in your entire life you probably should shut the fuck up, listen, and if you think they are saying something that is disagreeable to your pweshious wittle ears you should double down on shutting the fuck up and maybe learn something. But by all means, continue to attempt to "slander" us back. I guarantee most of us are enjoying this immensely anyway, and maybe you just might learn something yet.
  8. Quibbling. You came here with a shitbag attitude, didn't like the answers you got and the butthurt flowed forth. You claim you were only going defensive? Choke yourself.
  9. They're only one short step away from retirees walking at quarter speed down the aisles of the BPC mall!
  10. I'll be frank and honest with you-- find another career. Your priorities do not coincide with the realities of life as an AF pilot. I've seen pilots who have the same kind of prioritization scheme you have. They are UNIVERSALLY HATED in the squadron. These guys always have something going on that prevents them from taking a bite of whatever shit sandwich is being served at the time. Deployment? Nope, can't go, wife is due for kid #5 next month. Work late to finish a tasking? Nope! Kid has a doctor appointment. 365 remote? Nope, kid's first birthday is in a few weeks. PCS to bum fuck nowhere? Nope, no good schools. Sympathetic (read: BAD) commanders seem to regularly cave to these "needs". What the "family man" doesn't realize is that shit sandwiches MUST be consumed, and by him not taking his bite, that means that everyone else must cover his share. Look, I admire your aspiration to be a father, I really do, but you MUST realize that military life (and ESPECIALLY pilot life) are NOT conducive to the kind of lifestyle you want to have. You WILL be expected to deploy for months at a time (closer to 6mo/yr instead of your idea of 3-4). You WILL be expected to work 12+ hour days, which means you will come home to stick your head in your kids' rooms and watch them sleep for a few minutes. You WILL be expected to move, which means that you will either leave your family at your previous location, or pack them up and move them too. My advice: Something must give. Either realize that your family dream will not happen, or that you need to find a new line of work.
  11. Nah, the tanker only goes to 10 degrees, frequently, for no reason, with no warning, and only after you are about 100k into a 120k onload with a jet that is approaching MGW.
  12. Aside from launch and recovery, T-1s operate almost exclusively in civilian patterns. If you are in a civilian pattern and are NOT on VHF you are either A) an idiot or B) NORDO. I don't give a shit about stepping on people, but I like to hear as much radio traffic as I can, and if 99% of the airplanes around me are on VHF, so am I.
  13. Big difference between a SEEEEYA and someone saying dumb, redundant shit because in their head it sounds like something that should be said on the radio.
  14. I've said it before and I'll say it again-- this reliance on automation has a direct negative impact on pilot skills, and when that automation goes away (and it always will at some point) what is left is the skills you may or may not have. Reference Air France 447 and tons of ATC deviations because automation let the crew down. An analogy I use with students is a guy going out and buying an AR and putting a $500 optic on it right away, never learning how to shoot with iron sights. Yes the optic makes it a lot easier to shoot, until the batteries run out and you're left with iron sights. That is what determines if you are a marksman or whether you can simply push a button and get a banana. The same holds true for pilots. PS: If she's only training post-trans students to rely on the autopilot/FMS she's doing it wrong. I regularly turn off the MFD on my students and force them to use their instruments/hand flying for approaches.
  15. I'm a T-1 guy at CBM and it's amusing to see the perspective difference between FAIPs and MWS dudes. FAIPs tend to thing it is a bad deal, and MWS dudes tend to think it's the best deal ever! I think she's in for a rude awakening. I give her less than a year in the "real" world before she is LONGING for a return to the easy life and freedom of the schoolhouse.
  16. OOOH! Let's give them an IG-like mission, they can even have special uniforms! Surprise will be one of their core TTPs!
  17. A thousands times this. Arrogance and hubris have been the cause of MANY mishaps. Show my a guy who has never screwed up in an airplane and I will show you someone who has never flown one. Part of being a good pilot is recognizing your own vulnerability to making mistakes and be vigilant to identify them before mistakes grow into mishaps. QC your own work just like you would with a student pilot, ESPECIALLY if you are an AC, and DOUBLE ESPECIALLY if you are an IP. The higher your position, the more likely the rest of your crew will be to accept what you have done as the "correct" way to do things, and not speak up due to your experience and seniority. If you think you can/will never make a mistake in an airplane, you need to find a new line of work, because you are destined to kill yourself and others with your arrogance.
  18. This is concerning-- last time the AF looked this bad in the public eye the SECAF and CSAF got fired.
  19. Ya, things are going to get ugly. SecDef says "go find some witches" you better believe nobody is coming home before they find some.
  20. It's clearly just more evidence of the pervasive culture within the Air Force-- she was brainwashed by her surroundings!
  21. My caption submission: "Ooooh, so THAT'S what I was referring to when I wrote module 6.9 of the CBT!"
  22. The problem with doing it in the sim is you know it is coming. Even if you don't know exactly when they are going to hit the button you know it's in the profile. I'm not a cargo dude, but I would imagine that the time between "hey something ain't right" to an unrecoverable situation is measured in seconds if that long, especially if it isn't accompanied with any other indication other than an odd control response (or lack thereof).
  23. I get that point, but grounding the 135 will also show how we have placed a LOT of eggs in an unsustainable basket.
