  1. I think it's going to be a squadron to squadron deal for that answer. Your scores and background are extremely solid and I don't know what board wouldn't want someone with those numbers, and especially someone that is prior service with a combat deployment. However, back before I decided that the heavy track suited me best and was visiting different squadrons, one ANG F-16 unit I was at politely asked an individual to leave and not return after they discovered that he had gone through USN flight training all the way to the carrier landings where he was disqualified. He said that the reasoning they gave him was that he had "already had his shot and it didn't work out for him" and they wanted to give somebody that hadn't gotten their chance at fighters yet a shot, so that could be an issue that comes up. With your scores and background though there's no reason not to give it a shot. Rush some units, get some feedback, see how things are going to shake out, and continue from there. Edit to add: The commander of the ANG squadron also called the commander of the guys prior training squadron to ask about the guy, so there could have been something discovered in that phone call that aided in the decision to ask him to not return too, I'm not sure.
  2. Well that's just... shitty. Sounds like I'll be looking for somebody off base that has a safe, thanks for the heads up.
  3. What are the regulations as far as firearms while at UPT? As a student in the on base housing would we be allowed to keep a CCW handgun or hunting shotgun at the base armory or is it a no go unless you're in a house?
  4. https://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/avs/offices/aam/ame/guide/app_process/app_history/item18/v/ "A single driving while intoxicated (DWI) arrest, conviction and/or administrative action usually is not cause for denial provided there are no other instances or indications of substance dependence or abuse." Never do that shit again though and be aware that the FAA isn't the end of dealing with that poor choice, if you make it to a hiring board expect that they will absolutely question you about it too. As far as if you only need an FAA Medical for IFS and nothing else I do not know (I'm just a lowly selectee waiting for UPT dates) but I would be surprised if that was the case. Compared to your FC1 and yearly check by the flight doc an FAA physical is a cake walk so there really wouldn't be any reason not to maintain a current FAA Medical Certificate, especially if the airlines is your eventual goal.
  5. Yes it is required to hold an FAA Medical to fly during IFS and the flight doc will issue you an FAA Class 3 Medical certificate at the end of your FC-1 exam.
  6. I was deficient for Green in my left eye but still had a passing score of 60 so I'm not sure what would happen if you were lower than 55, but I had to do a battery of 4 extra color vision tests the following day just for research purposes. I imagine those may be used for further testing if you were below standards on the first day. Just make sure your eyes are well rested both days, it makes more of a difference than you think.
