  1. Reference (Foot wear with PT Gear):

Issued desert combat boots, ABU boots and sandals with a strap are authorized year round.

    WOW.

If you see me at the Deid in the near future, I will be wearing ABU boots with PT gear to the chow hall. Who's with me?

  2. Gents -

I just finished "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Luttrell, a US Navy SEAL who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2005 and was the only one left alive from his SEAL teams engagement in the Hindu Kush. It was the best and most unbelievable tale I have read since I put down "Boyd" by Robert Corum.

There are now three books at my bedside... The other one is The Bible. This book will make you laugh, cry and hurt. This guy is the "lucky" one who lived thanks to the efforts of his teammates, to include USN Lt. Mike Murphey, who was posthumously awarded the CMOH for his actions and leadership in what may be the most gut wrenching firefight described out of the GWOT. Youll find out why when you read it.

It will make you want to be a better warriror. Dont pass it up. Its the only thing on the NYT Bestseller list that isnt a POS (Besides Denis Leary's book, which is fooking hilarious).

    Get it. NOW.

Wow...just finished that one too. 4 on "Lone Survivor" and 2 on Leary's book ("Why We Suck")

  3. Seems like a lot of folks here know Dash, so check this out: www.markdashgraziano.com

The site will grow, so check back. There's a lot of photos his friends are going to put on there.

Story: we had a change of command about a year ago. Big, outdoor CoC. Dash is scheduled to fly that day high, i.e. in the space suit. After a U-2 pilot gets suited up, they put him in the big bread van with 2 lazy boy chairs in the back, and transport him to the U-2. Well, Dash decides HE can drive the van, and convinces the airmen to let him do it.

So, in full space suit, on his portable O2 system, he goes driving to his jet. On the flightline, he drives right by the Wing CC, CV, OG/CC, et. al... They look up and see a guy driving a GOV, on the flightline, in a space suit. CV looks at OG and says something to the effect of "is this the new stadard?". Needless to say, after the CoC, Dash got his ass chewed by the OG/CC. Can't remember the repercussions, but they went away with time.

    Awesome

Unfortunately, sounds like we lost another one of the guys who "got it." Him, him... :salut:

  4. Epic thread revival.

So I'm walking with an O-5 yesterday and a CMSgt walks past the two of us and salutes. I (an O-4) do nothing while allowing the senior ranking officer to return the salute. The LtCol later tells me that the Chief tracked him down to tell him that I was supposed to return the salute along with the LtCol because "we weren't in formation."

    I call BS.

I would agree that the two of us would salute an O-6 since we're not in formation, but does every higher ranking officer in a gaggle return the salute of a lower ranking individual? Reference appreciated (couldn't find anything on E-pubs) so I can tell the Chief to pound sand if he ever brings it up with me (though I'm sure he's on his way to the Deid to enforce tucked-in-PT-shirt-policy).

    AFI 34-1201

8.1.4.3. In a work detail, workers do not salute. The person in charge salutes for the entire detail.

    Says the same about formations.
