  1. PRFs should have four lines for the senior rater to fill out.

    1.  This candidate meets all eligibility requirements for promotion.  YES/NO  (no requires mandatory comment)

    2.  I have reviewed this candidates record and found no derogatory information.  YES/NO (no is mandatory comment)

    3.  Strat.  My #______/________ for this board.

    4.  DP/P/DNP

    Everything else the PRF communicates is already captured in the promotion record.

    Well to my understanding, congress was pushing the Space Corps back in the day, and now they have the oval office talking it up, so it looks like it just might happen now.

    Yes, it passed in the house in 2017 but died in the Senate due to AF opposition at the time.  https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/2810/text/eh#toc-HD6CAA416CAF74D1B9DE4FC89CF24A69F

    Text below of what passed.  Based on today's announcement of it being organized similarly to the Marines relationship with Navy, I'd expect it to be similar to what passed previously

    -----------------------------------

    Establishment.—Not later than January 1, 2019, the Secretary of Defense shall establish in the executive part of the Department of the Air Force a Space Corps. The function of the Space Corps shall be to assist the Secretary of the Air Force in carrying out the duties described in subsection

    Composition.—The Space Corps shall be composed of the following:

    The Chief of Staff of the Space Corps.

    Such other offices and officials as may be established by law or as the Secretary of the Air Force, in consultation with the Chief of Staff of the Space Corps, may establish or designate.

    Duties.—Except as otherwise specifically prescribed by law, the Space Corps shall be organized in such manner, and the members of the Space Corps shall perform, such duties and have such titles, as the Secretary may prescribe. Such duties shall include—

    (1) protecting the interests of the United States in space;

    (2) deterring aggression in, from, and through space;

    (3) providing combat-ready space forces that enable the commanders of the combatant commands to fight and win wars;

    (4) organizing, training, and equipping space forces; and

    (5) conducting space operations of the Space Corps under the command of the Commander of the United States Space Command.

    Semper maybe...

    Doubt the USMC has even asked for this capability (didn't see it referenced in the article) but would it be reasonable / possible to operate an A-29 / AT-6B from an LHD with a 800+ foot flight deck?  Modified for carrier suitability (upgrades airframe, gear, brakes, higher HP, better prop, etc...)

    Not comfortably

  5. Obama's 'pen and phone' set the landscape for what Democrats fear most from the current administration.  Perhaps the greatest lesson both parties should learn from Obama is that the pen of executive fiat is always inherited with an equally potent eraser.  Arduous though it is, bipartisan compromise is almost always the better path to lasting change.

    Seems Martin Baker is going to take it in the chin with the number of watches they’re on the hook for this year...

    I thought that it was the tie you got for free.   Doesn't punching just make you 'eligible' to buy the watch?

    And now the vice wing commander is in charge of the J model Airlift Wing...he’s a nav.

    I don’t understand putting a guy in command who can’t fly the only MWS assigned to him. (Yes there are ways he can fly on a J, but that’s not the intent.)

    AFI51-604 para 10 is the reference you're looking for.  Emphasis added.  "Only line of the AF officers with a current aeronautical rating, as defined by AFI 11-402, may command flying units (any unit that has flying, planning and directing the employment of manned and remotely piloted aircraft as their primary mission).  The rated officer must hold a currently effective aeronautical rating or crewmember certification, and must be qualified for aviation service in an airframe flown by the unit to be commanded.  (T-1)"

    Thanks you,

    So I did more research and still have some questions  since you were fortunate enough to get both ANG and AD offers  why would ANG in your opinion be better choice than AD?

    ANG pros:

    no deployment (mostly)

    can work civilian

    You know what you’re flying before committing

    you can choose where to live (mostly)

    its easier to go AD if u want too

    ANG cons:

    not much flying hours unless you have seniority and connections

    not much of military benefits

    ANG sounds like a sweet deal but will airlines hire me straight out of ANG UPT training without flying hours? Or I will have to work other jobs until I build up some hours

    thanks again for your time

    ANG Pros:

    You're in control of your life.

    AD Pros:

    Luck and timing will occasionally come up JACKPOT and you can do cool stuff you never expected.

    Stitch,  sounds like the young man in question should dump the current wife and find a more attractive one that supports his dreams of living dangerously.  Alternatively, keep current wife and allow her to maintain the fiction that he makes only 650$ a month.  It’s all technique.  Good luck!

    That's what allotments are for, right?

    From CSAF Memo, "Already in our inventory and in use, the OCP 2-piece flight suit has overwhelming support from aircrew. This uniform will be authorized for all non ejection seat aircraft and made available for purchase/wear. In addition, it will be tested for use in ejection seats for those who may prefer it over a one-piece flight suit."

    So are the bags going away entirely? Probably not from the sound of that memo. I wonder if Coyote colored boots will be authorized with a green flight suit?

    Does this mean we'll start buying/paying for our flight suits?

  11. When I was a young Airman, making $1k/mo, those discounts mattered a lot.  I happily took them, along with food stamps and WIC, so my family could eat.  Today, with a much healthier budget, I still like to say thank you by supporting the businesses that offer them.  At restaurants, specifically, I tip back the entirety of the discount to the waitstaff on top of normal tip.   Personal choice. In terms of plates, most Texans don't park in the Randolph parking lot.  They do, however, see a random MSM plate in their town and feel a swell of pride and patriotism.  I know, because I was once that young kid in a non-military heavy Texas town.  Yes, the free registration is nice, but it also plays a small part in preserving Texas culture.

    I'm not trying to stir shit up, just trying to see what is true and what isn't. Kept on reading and hearing people say heavies is just as hard as fighters, which is not true. ON THE OTHER HAND a heavy pilot can switch to a fighter and do just as well. It's generally more of the airframe requiring less skill and not the pilot, but I could be wrong.

    if POTUS is the declassification authority, does that mean he declassifies the material or he waives the requirement to have a clearance to possess classified material? There's quite a difference between the two.

    Starting point is EO 12968.  POTUS can add/delete/grant/etc as desired.  Security is an executive (presidential) program.

    Just had a day of local leave (approved by my flt/cc in the sqd on leaveweb) get full up denied in leaveweb because per the FSS Airman in reference to AFI umptifrats, my first-line supervisor needs to approve it.  I've had lots of leave approved through the years and NEVER has it been denied.  Why now??  Isn't it enough that i've spent xx hours defeating comm to get Leaveweb to actually work and let me sign, but now my flt/cc doesn't have the authority to approve my leave?!  :bash:

    AFI36-3003 4.1.1.2.  Unit Approval Level. Unit commanders are the approval authority for annual leave requests and normally delegate approval to a level no lower than the first-line supervisor.

    Supervisor is just the lower-limit of delegation.  Talk to your flt/cc about what happened.  Should be an easy fix.
