  1. Same downrange as at overseas bases. Generally not very good deals on cars/trucks. Great deals on Harley's, but you've got to buy a year-end closeout for the best prices. "2" on the BMW military sales program. Mercedes and Porsche also have excellent military sales programs. Expect a 10-13% discount off MSRP with no sales tax. Beware though, when you get back to the states, some states make you pay state tax to register :darkcloud: .

  2. So all this talk about DIY AR's got me looking, and I don't get it. Looking at the pricing for parts, I can't find much of a price advantage over purchasing a pre-built gun. They both appear to be in the $850-$1100 range. Is there a compelling reason to build your own? Being such a simple gun, is it much different than stripping and reassembling an existing weapon?

  3. OK, so I'm faced with temptation. I don't really need a new hunting rifle and I don't really need a 7mm. But, I stumbled across a pretty good deal at the local walmart this morning. The have a Remington 700SPS 7mm, scoped, on clearance for $357 before the $100 mail-in rebate for $257 total.

It seems like a very good deal, and I've heard lots of good things about the 700. Like I said, I'm tempted.

  4. The latest addition to the collection...a Savage Edge XP in .308...and a real bitch to find as they are quite popular right now...

Luckily, Bud's had them in stock for a few hours last night, so I jumped and got my order in. Just about $300 with shipping, and from all the reviews I've heard so far, it's a great shooter!

Sure, it's an entry level hunting rifle; but I wanted something good for 200-300 yards and this will do the trick. Plus, with .308 I will able to take down most anything in Texas, to include a chupacabra!

Hopefully it'll get to my FFL in a week or so. I'll post up a range report once I get a few rounds through it.

    Cheers! M2

Interesting... Very tempting. Please post a range report after you take it out.

  5. So, does a wg/cc need to tell the 3-STAR about every little disciplinary issue he handles? Being a DD checks without crossing boundaries, especially if she was on his staff. Issuing a DP with an ongoing inquiry checks since it (probably) matches the records on file.

AF times seems to be hyping relative non-issues. As written, sounds like an issue of a 3-star being mad that he signed a DP without having every nitty gritty up to the minute detail.

CAVEAT: Bosses can do what they want, and there's probably much more to this than what was published.

  6. Found another copy here. I like this gem...

    (2) Make "speeches." Talk as frequently as possible and at great length. Illustrate your "points" by long anecdotes and accounts of personal experiences. Never hesitate to make a few appropriate "patriotic" comments.

  7. Thanks! I was about to ask... "Ah, Hell, what did we hit this time?" If you do not know what LOSA (Line Operations Safety Audit)is I guess you have not done your Phase II CRM Refresher Training.

Dang it, and I thought he was talking about a "Loss of Situational Awareness" Pilot.

  8. Regarding AR-15s, are there any specific brands to stay away from? Looking around Bud's, they have a few ARs that seem really cheap, such as a Doublestar for $659, an Olympic Arms for $628, and a DPMS for $728. For those in the know, what are your feelings about any of these three? Or should I just suck it up and buy a Colt?

    -9-

I've only shot the oly. It's a pretty nice rifle as long as you don't mind a "byonggg" sound from the spring every time you pull the trigger.

  9. When Housecats Attack

REXBURG - A domestic cat attack sends two people to the hospital. The family says their cat was completely normal until 3 days after it gave birth to kittens. But then the cat got defensive, and the family says it tried to kill them.

It began Tuesday at 5:30am. The Ostermiller's were asleep in their bed when they heard a sound.

"All I heard was rrwwwrrrr hisss," said Jackie Ostermiller, who was attacked by her domestic cat.

Jackie woke up and saw her cat, Renesmee, (named after the Twilight character) panicking. Jackie thinks a male cat had wandered by and her cat was protecting her kittens. So she went to grab her cat to prevent her from bolting out a hole in the screen door. That's when her cat jumped at her.

"I was being mauled literally for the kill. She had got ahold of my nose first, my face first, my arms first, I was literally screaming, 'Blaine get off get her off, she's attacking me, get her off. He jumped up in the middle of his sleep, took his c-pap machine just jerked it off, threw it on the floor. He was literally able to pry her off of me,'" said Jackie Ostermiller.

"Confusion. I woke up hearing my wife scream, I didn't know what was going on until I looked over there, until I looked over there seeing (the cat) viciously attacking her," said Blaine Ostermiller, Jackie's husband.

Blaine did get the cat off, but not before 35 bite marks and 15 bruises later. Then, when Jackie was washing the blood off her face, the cat came back.

"Washed the blood of her face and part of her hands, she actually attacked her leg a second time," said Blaine Ostermiller.

The Ostermiller's both saw an unusual stare right before that second attack.

"She came at me with the deadliest eyes," said Jackie Ostermiller.

"I noticed she was looking at my wife with a weird look," said Blaine Ostermiller.

But even after this whole ordeal, the Ostermiller family hasn't turned their back on cats. They even plan on getting a new kitten soon. But they do have a word of caution.

"I want people to know how dangerous cats can be, they can turn on you in a dime. Believe it or not, cats!" said Jackie Ostermiller.

Jackie feels that none of this would have happened either, if they had just spayed their cat.

The Ostermiller's ended up giving up their cat to the Rexburg Shelter. It's likely that it will be put down. But it hasn't been put down yet because it's nursing some kittens.

SALT LAKE CITY – A Utah woman has been sentenced to 30 days in jail with credit for two days served for blindfolding her husband and promising him a surprise before hitting him in the head with a hammer three years ago.

Amy Teresa Ricks also was sentenced to probation and community service Monday in 3rd District Court. The 37-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree felony aggravated assault in February.

Prosecutors have agreed to reduce the conviction to a third-degree felony after Ricks completes probation. They also agreed to let Ricks seek expungement of the crime after seven years.

Ricks' husband suffered minor injuries in the May 2007 attack. At the time of her plea, Ricks' defense attorney said the two were still married but were separated.

  11. Here's the current news on the shooting. link

    Summary:

Young male gunman shoots up a bookstore wounding four females, including 2 AF SSgt's. He then goes to a local bar/club and kills the bouncer. He then barricades himself in an apartment and kills himself.

Thoughts and prayers for the victims, especially fellow Airmen who were in a place I've spent lots of time at the wrong random time.

  12. Ok, so international looks like where it's at being single, but what if I want to meet girls(I'm 24 and not getting any younger)? I know you're going to laugh at that, but where I am, there are almost nil girls (and the ones we have are unsat). Cali maybe?

What you need is a stout German wife. I recommend Ramstein.

  13. BIG "2" on that one. I put a couple hundred rounds through mine the other day with no hiccups. Thing drives nails.

I've heard the expression before, but the wheels are turning and I wonder if it really would. Next time I'm at the range, I'll have to bring a 2x4 with a few partly driven 8d nails to see if I can really drive them in at 25 yds or so.
