  1. This thread is delicious. It inspired me to fire up the Weber and grill two 18oz 1.5" thick boneless choice Black Angus ribeyes.

Also, I can recommend the WeberQ 320 without reservation. I purchased it as a gift for a family member a few years back and have cooked on it a few times. It's lasted for a few years, and gets really hot. Even though you lose some flexibility of the giant genesis for indirect cooking, I think it may sear even better than mine. It also costs quite a bit less.

  2. Something from the Weber Genesis series. I've had mine since 2004 and used it hundreds of times. I replaced the steel grates with cast iron ones about two years ago. The thing is an extremely well engineered beast and makes great food. No complaints.

  3. That's F-ing gay if it's going into TIMS! Why the hell for? The 355 comments were meant for morning standup so everyone could share a laugh!

And here I thought they just existed to give the recorder something to do.

  4. Rainman's description has it right! It should be an Army Fixed Wing mission!

NO! But I don't agree with any Army FW other than RPA.

◦Two internal, wing-mounted .50-caliber machine guns: accuracy with no drag.

    Yes - key.

I read the actual article CH posted and saw that SNC is behind the Super-T. Armed with that knowledge I really hope they get the contract.

    Yes 100%

  5. He’s already received laser eye surgery and said he has 20/20 vision. He plans to cross-train to a new mission or move to the Navy.

So, I guess with the upgraded vision he can be a pilot now (I'm sure that's what his recruiter told him). OR he could transfer to the navy and suck poop out of boats. I think that's what he's saying.

  6. Don't know if anyone's in the market for an M11/Sig 229, but these are the best prices I've seen. Link

ETA: I know the M11 is the 228, but they are essentially similar.

  7. Trying this again, maybe I'll have better luck posting during the week...

I'm very likely headed to Cannon in the Oct-Jan timeframe to be an AC-130H Nav. Looking for updates on the standard info--training, deployments, housing, nightlife (haha), etc. I'm single, late 20s, will be a junior Capt when I PCS. Not very interested in buying a house currently, would rather rent, and from what I've seen and heard the rental market around Clovis isn't the greatest. I'd at least like to find a place in a decent neighborhood and close to some of the folks I'll be working with.

Also wondering what the local area/leave policy is and how people go about getting anywhere farther away than Albuquerque. Does everyone just drive to Lubbock or Amarillo and hop on a flight there? I know one guy on here has a couple of his own planes, have any others gone that route?

    Thanks in advance,

    Rman

You'll be in training for a long time. If you make it through training, you'll PCA to the squadron and deploy a lot. Use AHRN to find rentals, focus on the northeast side of town (North of 14th and East of Prince you'll probably be fine.) For night life, there's karaoke at Apple-bees. Not sure what you mean by "local area/leave policy." Travel is common on the weekends and certainly on leave. Lubbock, Amarillo, and Roswell are just under 2 hours. Albuquerque and Santa Fe are just over 3 hours. Colorado Springs/Denver are just over 5 hours. Dallas is close to 7 hours. Phoenix is around 10 hours away. People go to those places. Lots of people own planes.

  8. A commendation medal with valor is a very good thing, especially for a single day's actions (warranted too!)

Point taken (sts). My opinion is that the importance of PCS medals has been diluted by them being used as PCS medals. The "V" does indeed set it apart. Although his actions may have been 'routine' in Vietnam or even possibly to a Marine, he really rose above expectations. Kudos to him for actually having a warrior spirit.

  9. Thankfully we have guys like this young airman. Where the hell do we find people like this Sgt First Class? You're being mortared, and your first thought is trays and trash? Unbelievable.

It amazes and frankly disgusts me that the best the AF could do for this Airman was a commendation medal when MSgt's get bronze stars for enforcing uniform rules in a combat zone.

  10. An O-7 who is a senior pilot with jump wings, works at the Pentagon, has 2 Bronze Stars, the Legion of Merit, a shit-ton of Air medals & Aieral Achievement Medals, and fought in the first Gulf War?
