  1. Side note - some MC-130P bubbas recently put together a pretty sweet order from Breitling (Airwolf watch). Latest word is that they're (finally) out of the oven and enroute to their new owners. Once I put eyes-on, I'll pass words about how they look... meanwhile, here's a quick artist's rendition from the paperwork (attached):

    Regards,

    Linda

Approximate cost? Curious because that omega deal is amazing.

  2. Meet a basic standard in BMTS to get in the door, Let AFSCs set their own standards, and test each other with a test that is appropriate to their job, and let the CC (my vote would be Wg/CC, not sq), simply have the authority to say, "Hey, you look like shit, get to not looking like shit like yesterday, or I will crush you".

Maybe ruck marches for cops, box of copier paper carry for MPF, case of beer carry for co-pilots, you know let it make sense. Won't ever happen.

Simply brilliant, but would never happen because it makes too much sense.

  3. So apparently with the end of BDU's the AAFES online store is no longer carrying bdu/flight suit rank. The nearest real BX is over an hour from me. Does anyone know of an online retailer that carries flight suit rank?

    Thanks.

You haven't gotten the new sage flight suits yet? They switched so they could save HUNDREDS of dollars by not having to make two colors of rank (along with the associated shelf space at clothing sales). Besides, they match the puke green boots so much better.

  4. This might sound stupid, but are there any rumors of Cannon getting an incentive pay?

That would be a nice rumor. I'm sure local community 'leaders' would find a way to absorb any increase in our pay though. Mostly, though, I'd just like them to station a few more doctors in the Med Group. And maybe some specialists too so we don't have to drive up to 230 miles to see one.

  5. I don't know what you're seeing, but I see nothing that looks remotely close to a split-s at 3:10.

Out of respect to the victims, I won't get into a debate over the mechanics of an aerobatic maneuver. It was never my intent to infer that any maneuvering was intentional. Thanks for the pics. They really show what would be a nightmare scenario for any pilot. Can't imagine the horror of those last few seconds, realizing exactly what's happening after 74 years of building SA. Just hope for a speedy recovery for those that can recover.

  6. Here's some video footage of the maneuvering leading up to the crash. Almost looks like a split-s at 3+10 in. Might want to turn down the volume and ignore the rest of the video though. The videographer's an idiot.

I was also up there just a few days ago talking with the very excited people. Sincere condolences to all involved, especially those who lost a loved one. :salut:

Edit: Pasted wrong vid. Replaced with the short clip of the one I meant to paste.

  7. Um, please reference what allows the military to possess them

    From Benchmade's site

    FEDERAL CODES-

18 USC 1716 (G) (2) (1-4) provides this summary: Switchblade knives can be shipped to civilian and armed forces supply or procurement officers and employees of the Federal government ordering or procuring or purchasing such knives in connection with activities in the Federal government; to supply or procurement officers in the National Guard, the Air National Guard or militia of the state or territory of the District of Columbia ordering, procuring or purchasing such knives in connection with the activities of such organizations; to supply or procurement officers or employees of the municipal government of the District of Columbia or the government of any state or territory of any county, city, or other political subdivision of a state or territory ordering, procuring or purchasing such knives in connection with the activities of such government.

15 USC 1244 provides in summary: Knives can be shipped by common carrier, that sale, transportation or distribution, possession or introduction into interstate commerce of switchblade knives is authorized if it is pursuant to a contract with the armed forces or any member or employee thereof acting in the performance of his or her duty may possess switchblade knives any may have them shipped to him and sold to him or her. The possession and transportation upon his or her person of a switchblade knife or a blade 3 inches or less is authorized to any handicapped individual who has the use of only one arm.

    Backed by the .gov site.

    And 1244 from the House.

ETA hard to read fed links.

  8. What is a 5MT? Does asking that question make me a failure as an Airman?

This is a 5MT. The plan is for the E9 to get one of these so he can drive everywhere on base and ask people about the creed. When he's not asking, he can play a recording of it through strategically placed speakers on the outside of the 5MT. Heck, it's even small enough he could drive it into some buildings. That way he gets the double benefit of never having to walk and justifying reflective belts for everybody indoors.

  9. Anyone live close by and can offer an opinion? Selling price is about at the top of my range, especially as a first-time buyer, but price per square foot is very low and the place seems to have a big upside.

    Thanks for the help!

    RM

I just drove by that neighborhood today. It's older, but doesn't have that unsafe gonna get shot due to any one of the 15 drug deals on the street going wrong feel. It looks like a 3-unit home that's been for sale for almost a year. Reselling may be hard, and I personally wouldn't want to run an apartment complex while doing my day job too. It's also in the Parkwood Elementary district which is considered very undesirable. My recommendation is no.

Although I don't know anything about you or your situation, I will say that you can get a very nice home in the $200K-$250K range. This includes very nice established homes or custom builds that go up in about 75 days. I outlined the neighborhoods in a previous post, and I will stick to that assessment.

I think you will be equally disappointed by living a two minute drive from anywhere in town or a five minute walk from the "economic center." If you absolutely have to live in walking distance from the few decent restaurants or a "bar", check into the houses off Marvin Hass or Sycamore north of 21st. Also check out the golf course houses north of Llano and between Prince and Norris. There's a really good sandwich shop called coffee bistro on the corner of Colonial and Prince.

  10. Thoughts?

    I like it. Here's a few thoughts.

    1. Give people already in the option of staying with the current system or converting to the new system up until retirement.

    2. Make the new system 1.5% of average top three years times years of service with vestment at five years (because that makes it more fair). Begin paying immediately upon separation like retirement with eligibility for BX, commissary, etc... Also to incentivize the swap, offer TSP contribution matching up to 5% of base pay. TSP payout is at normal retirement age without penalty.

Under this, let's assume Capt Snuffy does his 6 years and gets out. His pension would be about $466 per month. His total in TSP would be about $35K with half of that contributed by the govt.

I think it may work, but they might have to delay paying of pension/TSP to 55 or 62.

  11. Here is the actual briefing by the Defense Business Board. The word "unfair" is used alot. Lots to digest. Page 22 states that all AC personnel start to accrue new benefit for the balance of their service payable under new terms.

    Quote from page 2...

Provide recommendations that will enable the system to be fiscally sustainable and recruit and retain the highest personnel required for our nation’s defense.

That's right, because you'd have to be high to think this would work out like they want.
