The iPad itself as an EFB isn't completely terrible. You can turn the FLIP on night mode and it isn't bright at all. Works fine on NVGs. I would love to see a program like this on the iPad but AMC has enough trouble just keeping up with far superior programs like Foreflight. I think if the biggest problem is having to switch between one app for pubs and one for plates, then were doing pretty good all things considered. Still better than having to pull out a pub, find what your looking for, and have an approach plate open. The technology to use facetime etc is being toyed around with at AMC already. They like the idea of wifi updates, facetime with maint home-station to help solve issues. If it were me I would pursue the iPad venue regardless because I doubt AMC is going to change at this point.

The Charbroil finally rusted itself useless and with the new Infrared grills out there, anybody have advice on a good grill. Been sticking to gas because of convenience but thinking about trying out wood/charcoal or the infrared.

I close with them on May 9th. So far everything has been pretty streamlined, dont know if it's my Realtor or just USAA. We used our VA and are locked in at 4.75%. Weekly Whiting Drop (17 June) Air Force 4 x T-1 Nobody got 38's, and some got third on their list. Must be needing T-1 guys right now. Last week their was a T-1 and UH-1. Slim pickens on the 38's the last two weeks. Generally plenty get dropped.

The only two sites that are actually mostly current are marinegouge.com and coastiecrossover.com. I would definately stay away from the rest. Everything is changing with T-6/T-34 combined ops anyway. Everyone uses the gouge at Whiting. It's encouraged, but encouraged cautiously.

You should try having to see the T-6's on the flightline, and not be able to fly them yet. Nothing like truely strapping in the 34 and knowing the only way out is to climb out.

Thats scary and hot. Whats stupid is that these braods can get away with some of that...and you sneeze to hard around the punter and you get flagged immediately.

Why is it that all the people in charge do this? Seems to me that most people on here are actually normal and could make a difference if they were put in the right place. You have to hope that one day soon someone or multiple people with common sense get the opportunity to make things better. You guys should try being on a Navy base, where you will get shot for even pumping gas in your flight suit or showing your military outside of the base gates. Keep thinking how nice it will be when they let me go back to an Air Force base, but damn all this makes me wonder.

New guys coming in....literally plan on having about a month off if your coming in the December time frame. You will get the first 2 weeks off...then go down to finance etc at P-Cola...get your NAMI physical...and then still have time off after that. Eventually you will probably work in the AFLO office or OPS, either of which are about 2-3 hours a day...3-4 days a week. There is so much down time...and yes your military bearing will be destroyed, but...as others say, you live in Florida. Whether your Pace, Milton, Bagdad...its all the same. P-Cola NAS is a good 50 minute drive from Whiting Field because of redlights, traffic, etc. From Bagdad it is about 30 minutes. I have found tons to do in Milton, especially if you like the outdoors, and dont mind a 30 minute max drive to the beach. If your looking for a really good rental house...best company around is Village Homes and Land...their application process is along the lines of "show me your military id".

Just to update some of the outdated info....you will check in at NAS Whiting Field. If on the weekend...check in at hq and they will stamp your order, then you can go to lodging or wherever you like. Come back in to VT-3 on Monday and report to the AFLO office. Everything is extremly laid back. Best place to IMHO is NE P-COLA or PACE. Only 6 weeks of API, and you will not start API for like 5 or 6 months after you check in. I work 2 hours a day, 3 days a week on casual here, even after I finished IFS I just waited about 3 weeks before API. If you need any other info PM me or call the AFLO office here. If your wife is going to work at Eglin, Bagdad is the best place. 30 to 40 min to Eglin, 15 to Whiting.
