    First Monday

Ha, yeah, there's usually at least one. I was lucky (I guess) in that I wasn't the only one who skipped something.

    First Monday

Well, I had a great weekend...didn't really do anything! Went up to Colorado Springs and visited the Academy and Peterson AFB. I'm sure our free weekends are numbered since all the classes are a little behind schedule, though. This morning we had a boldface/ops limits test and only 3 of us messed it up...yep, I was one of em. I simply skipped over one of the blanks on the ops limits. We then went over the aircraft systems, aerodynamics, performance, airspace and radio communication. Oh, and we had lunch sometime in there also. Our flights then split up and we went to PT while the other flight had another class. We switched it up after that: the other flight PTd and we had that class. Before we started the lesson, we had another boldface/ops limits test. Our flight got them all right, but the other flight had one mess it up. They paid for it at PT and now we are good to wear flight suits! Good day overall and more classes tomorrow and we get to find out what the formal briefing is all about!

    Day One

Today was an ok day. Death by powerpoint describes it well. We had our first boldface/ops limits test today, overall, not too bad. The PFT is another beast all on it's own. If you aren't running, start running well before you get here. You lose about a minute or two on your run time because of the altitude, and there is no waiver for altitude...we missed it by about 400 feet. This weekend is free for us, but it will most likely be the last one as all the classes are backed up and we'll probably be flying most saturdays. Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do.
  4. Ok, got here to the lovely brand new IFS facility at around noon. The Doss IFS website says report between 1000 and 1800 in one place and 1200 - 1800 at another spot on there. I think 1000 is what they mean. As was said in Riddller's blog, doesn't really seem like any better or worse to get here earlier rather than later or vice versa, but I guess I would err on the side of early. We have a meet and greet type thing later tonight, but once you get your room and get your flight gear, you're free until then. Tomorrow starts early and goes pretty much all day. Briefings, a couple of classes, boldface/ops limits test and PFT rounds out the day.

    Colorado Springs

PM Baseops.Net and ask him for permission. See you in a few hours!
  6. Me and my buddy got to Colorado Springs a little bit ago. We're staying here tonight so we don't have to wear our blues for that long when we actually get to IFS. Not too much to post for today...pretty much just driving the whole day (came from Texas). Tomorrow is day 1, so i'm sure i'll have much more to post then.

    A few days left

I too have been following his blog, awesome stuff! Like I said, i'll be posting as much as I can...Riddller's blog was invaluable when studying for IFS and to know how things went on there and I hope mine will be as good as his is.
  8. Well, I'm taking a cue from Riddller and doing a blog about IFS (and hopefully UPT). I know he put a lot of great information in his so i'll try to do the same. Hopefully I'll be adding a different perspective on things. So far, everything Riddller has in his opening remarks of his IFS blog holds true...i'll find out for sure when I get there. Also, my supervisor and a Major in my squadron have been trying to help prepare me for this by imitating standup EPs...I am given a situation and I have to bring it to a logical conclusion. Even in a non-stressful environment in my squadron, these are extremely tough. Not trying to discourage anyone, but I can just imagine how it will be at IFS and UPT. My buddy and I are driving up there in two days and are staying in Colorado Springs for the night so we can be ready to hit the ground running. I'll admit, driving with my buddy may not end up so well in the end as one of us may go home quicker than the other, but i'm really not worried about it. I'll get reimbursed either way! About me: I spent 6 years in the Marine Corps as a KC-130 flight mechanic...basically a flying crew chief. Went through part of USMC OCS and decided that the best thing for and my family was to join the Air Force. So, I enrolled in ROTC and commissioned this past December. So far, it's been a great decision. I am going to try to post as much information as I possibly can to help out the guys and gals after me, so if there is anything that anyone wants to know, ask and i'll try to provide some answers! Talk to you guys in a couple days when I get there!
  9. Google search produces this. I'm sure that's not the only one.
  10. Just remember, you have to show up in blues...you can't show up in civvies then ask to change. Me and my buddy are driving there and just staying the night in C Springs the night before we have to be there.
  11. I'm not a cross-towner, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night! No, seriously...all your instructors and your commander will know that you are a cross-towner and should keep that in mind. That being said, help out as much as you can and demonstrate that you want to be there and want a pilot slot. The cadre will see the effort you put in and rank you accordingly (along with gpa, etc.), because they won't give it to you just because they feel sorry for you for driving an hour to LLab. Good luck!
  12. "Don't enlist, stay and kiss." Fvcking dumbasses...it's an officer recruiter. Ignorance is bliss with these wackos. SEMPER FI!
  13. To add to that, when they were doing my investigation, the guy came to my apartment and knocked on everyone's doors who lived around me (I don't know anybody) and left business cards for them to call him about me. One of my neighbors saw me and asked if I was in trouble with the law. Nope, just going back into the military!
  14. Cockpit poster here. I just got this recently to familiarize myself with the layout...doesn't do a whole lot of good before you get there, though (I go in late April). Just know boldface/ops limits and we should be good.
  15. Think that's either something on the lens of the camera or the window of the plane. Unless the Ruskies were trying to develop some sort of spider web defense.............
  16. If I can find this website after .69 seconds of searching, i'm sure you can find much more. Google is a wonderful thing...learn it, live it, love it.
  17. I think you're talking about "Militia". I didn't catch that he was a Marine, but it makes sense since every time they showed him he was saluting. Ugh.
  18. I agree. "Wolf" was amusing to watch only because he howled every time they said his name . I almost fell asleep watching the first two women attempt the eliminator, weak. The second set of women (the former Marine and the body builder) were pretty impressive, though. Maybe Hulk Hogan could say "brother" a few more times.
  19. If any of you are familiar with the Dallas area, this is about on par for Garland. Pathetic (on a side note, this is the same city where the cops will turn on their lights to go through an intersection, then turn them right back off!)
  20. I did all this stuff when going through enlisted aircrew school down there (right after USMC boot camp), and, while not extremely difficult for the most part, if you're not a strong swimmer...start practicing. I had trouble with WS-6...I don't know if they do it differently for officers, but we were in the pool all day doing this stuff, and if you couldn't do it after a certain amount of remediation, you got rolled to the next class. Most of it is pretty easy, but don't take it for granted. And the mile swim is just boring.
  21. That's the way the Marines do it: 1 load, 1 flying crew chief, 1 engineer... The crew chief is the FE's bitch.
  22. Probably, but we'll have none of that "outside the box thinking" here. This is the military for cryin' out loud!
  23. It's possible that i'm wrong, but I highly doubt that this is true. In our class of 9, 4 of us got pilot slots...none of us had PPL, only 2 of us had any hours (less than 5), and our majors are criminal justice, public administration, and 2 sociology majors. So, in our case (i'll bet most, if not all other dets also), those other factors most likely did not play a part in our selection. Note that it says MAY. I wonder how much extra work that puts on the board. I think they have this process fairly streamlined (could be way off here), and to throw gender and race and all that in there...I just see EEO knocking on the door. Just my very uneducated take on that. If you (original poster) are that close to a PPL, go for it as long as it won't break the bank. It can do nothing but help you in the quest for a pilot slot and wings down the road. That might be the bottom line.
  24. Hey, your right. Found the AF one here. Attachment 2, paragraph 6 Although I am enlisted in the Obligated Reserve Section (ORS) of the USAF Reserve, I am regarded as a civilian under the military justice system, so long as I retain my cadet status, and as such, am not subject to the provisions of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ).
