That's an assumption. Hopefully it is, but like I said before, not many gear problems in the T-38.
I was referring to the CBM incident, which was an intentional gear-up.
-
Last time a Talon landed gear up at CBM (many years ago), it flew the next day....replaced the flaps and speed brakes and it was good to go.
Cheers,
Cap-10
Edit: I spell goodly.
I landed on the center runway a few minutes after that intentional gear-up. I was surprised at how quickly it stopped and with very little damage.

I've done some cool things in the C17 ( not patting myself on the back, I'm not the only one). None of which I can talk about and only about half of those "support" missions were SOLL II.
You flew some Arabian horses around in a grey and maroon cattle car?
-
Anyone want to guess on the total take for the current eligibles? The percentage I heard today (thus far) is barely double digits.
-
Irrelevant; You're going to FAIP.

Dear Gen Chang, you have an opportunity hear to teach us knuckle dragging retards about your world. Don't waste that opportunity with chest beating, you'll lose and your point will be lost. Finance Guy is a moderator on a board full of said idiot pilots, why do you think that is? Please, don't leave, adjust your attitude and actually take this opportunity to teach. It's pretty ######ing clear we don't understand A1 at all, so help us out brother, fill in those blanks as best you can.
On second thought, please do.

I can only speak for myself but I just signed my continuation paperwork...and right quick. Having said that I read the FY14 program and it still makes no sense to me. Why they don't have an option for those of us who were passed over to get move on, solve some manning problems while still allowing us to be "in the club" at a reduced rate makes no sense to me.
Because the overmanned career fields made unnecessary promotions. The answer is very clear-- LAF Rated and LAF non-Rated boards.

Possibly true, but it doesn't matter. Just like when they moved the last Majors board back. Everyone will still pin on at the same time, there will just be less time between getting promoted and pinning on.
Pros and Cons to this I suppose. My board met 20 months ago, announced 15 months ago, and I still have to wait 1,000 more line numbers before I can pin-on O-4.
-
Haven't seen stats as they aren't posted, but I wonder if they decreased the promotion rate from the 75% that it's been in order to get rid of the 'glut' of officers. If not, then the machine just keeps feeding itself.
AF Times says 74.4% for IPZ. That's the only stat I've seen.

Spur
Where did you find this off of the NTSB's page or press release? Either way...well done!
Posted 24 hours before the newscast, I think spur may be the legitimate source, confirmed by the NTSB intern.

If that's what happened, they crashed a plane in day VFR conditions because of messing up the autopilot, that says a lot about pilot proficiency in the world of commercial aviation. Not talking about knowledge or being able to manage the avionics. Talking about stick and rudder flying, situational awareness etc...
The civilian training I've received confirms this. It's Automate-Aviate-Navigate-Communicate. 180 degrees out from military flying.
If the jet isn't doing what you want, click and autopilot is off. Back when I was a UPT instructor 5+ years ago, the students weren't allowed to use the autopilot in the first block of training. I'm curious if that's changed by now.

"Don't accept being low". "Don't accept being slow". "Don't accept being off centerline". I say this EVERY DAY and it matters.
Comm brevity:
Aimpoint. Airspeed. Centerline.

Increase ADSC by one day each time the following occurs:
1) eat at the base Burger King
2) Shop at the Commissary/BX
Decrease ADSC by one day:
1) Purchase a meal at the "Club"

matmacwc said the fighter community has no desire for people who had an assignment for 3-4 years and then go to B course subsequently showing up in a fighter sq with no experience, applying it to the logic not to send dudes who went from upt to uavs to fighters. I'm pointing out FAIPs are in the same bo-at. Mid-term captains as brand new wingmen with no experience.
So matmacwc and 11Fs, which would you rather have on your wing, a FAIP or a First Assignment Drone Operator?
-
Same with upt direct to uav. That wasn't what I was getting at.
Well then, please elaborate.
-
So FAIPs no longer go to fighters then, right?
A Major FAIP? LMAO
Most FAIPs finish at most around a 2 year Capt, right?

What boggles my mind about the promotion systems is that it doesn't take an individual's AFSC into account. What I mean is there seems to be a bunch of shoe AFSCs that are overmanned yet continue promoting people, while many MDSs are undermanned (in part due to people voting with their feet) and are having people passed over. It seems as though the system is content with the appearance of being "fair and equitable," as the Kool-Aid video at SOS described it, rather than the actual needs of the USAF. It's almost as if the system is afraid to say that certain AFSCs actually contribute more to the mission than others....am I taking crazy pills?
What's the solution? Separate rated and non-rated boards? Let the shoes who have racked up multiple AADs because they've never deployed and work 5 hours a day go against their own.

It has to be cheaper to ship MRAPs back via land/rail and eventually sea back to the US, right? There's no rush in getting them back to the States... hell, leave them in Germany until we invade <insert middle eastern country here> next.

Anybody know what happened to the guy who started the now-defunct raptorpilot.com? He was a few classes behind me in UPT and I think ended up at Charleston...

I haven't received a new green flight suit in over 5 years. Someone refresh my memory on how many I'm authorized per year by reg?
-
Autopilot off. Awesome pilot on.

But...but...but...I thought only the best pilots got C-17s on assignment night? How could this happen? Again.
10+ years ago, this was the case.

In my years at Carolina, Reggie Love (Dook basketball/football player) thought it was a good idea to get pass-out drunk at a fraternity house in Chapel Hill and ended up with teabag photos on the interwebs. No, I was not there.
