  1. If I ever have to be the IO that writes a 150 page report on why some BGen extended her TDYs by a day to attend retirement ceremonies costing the Gov a whopping $690 per occurrence, I’m doing whatever I can to eject from the AF. The amount of effort that went into that exhaustive investigation boggles my mind. There are so many real tactical problems out there to be solved, and so many $billions wasted on bad acquisitions, and some poor guy devotes all his waking hours to this.

Well, here at Dyess we are 3-D printing the controllers for the B-1 avionics system for pennies on the dollar.  As well as replacement ICS switches, switch covers, and other cockpit components.

Do you have any pictures of those?

Based on years of watching the clown show, I’d bet in less than 5 years the initiative to start placing enlisted pilots into rated staff billets comes up (provided the whole think doesn’t go down the shitter, as per Chuck’s prediction)

SNCO pilots would be able to “only fly planes” just like like SNCO maintainers get to “only fix planes”.

But isn't it the main purpose of having enlisted pilots that USAF can keep them in a flying job for the rest of their career unlike a commissioned ones who forced to do career expanding jobs preparing them for flag rank? How many enlisted to officer to pilot are actually selected, if selected and make it through the training are they selected for Major? Saw some prior E's go the route and get rifted which makes me think thanks for the training hello airlines then we come around to how do we solve the pilot shortage?

No one is getting RIF’d anymore. Fly as much as you like, excel in your primary duty, get promoted if you stay in. Virtually automatic to Major.

Also, it’s not like career enlisted dudes are immune from staff jobs.

Lol, not at all. Any enlisted guys that want to be enlisted Global Hawk pilots, listen up. You’ll need a bachelors to be competitive in the selection process, so get that. Then, instead of applying for enlisted pilot, apply for OTS instead as a 11X, 12X, or 18X. Then you can go be a Global Hawk pilot for 2x the money. Or you can even fly something else if you want.

  6. Regarding Tricare for life, I’ve heard from more than a few pilot and non-pilot retirees that it was a huge reason for staying in, or in one case, returning to active duty to get healthcare covered for a child with an extremely rare disease.

What are you airline guys paying for health insurance? Based on what I can figure, it’s around $1k/month with a max out of pocket of $6-12k depending on the plan.

@SurelySerious they need to bring back tracks like Imola, Zandvoort, and Adelaide.  I agree the Tilke tracks are just outrageously boring.

...I’ll bet you $50 that Zandvoort is on the calendar within a year.

This news story just released, F1 now headed to Miami?

"F1 2021 deal for Miami race at Hard Rock Stadium 'agreed in principle'"

This is going to blow. A race in Florida suburbs next to a Walmart and CVS. South Beach or nothing!

Woah! Another F1 fan??? I guess I'm not alone!

    There are dozens of us!

But if you’re looking for a sport with no political sellouts, F1 ain’t it. The NBA is getting a lot of shit these days for defending the Chinese government over the HK protestors, while F1 has been making deals with sketchy governments for 50 years. Apartheid South Africa, Communist Hungary, China, Russia, Bahrain, etc.

  9. Almost every hotel will release rooms at the government rate late in the game when its apparent the rooms won’t sell at the normal rate. $160 is greater than $0 and basically pays for a maid’s entire shift...

  10. Hack reporters continue to drill in to this fake scandal, and the Air Force continues to bend over and adjust to angry tweets.

My first stop in Prestwick was in 2011. Why? Mildenhall is fucking closed from 2200-0500 because the locals can’t be bothered with the jet noise that sustains their town. Also the service sucks and it takes trans a few hours to get you to the hotel. Pretty easy decision. The best part is the “investigation” by Elijah Cummings and Jamie Raskin gets its entire mandate from a poorly researched Guardian article.

Story time:  when I was TDY to Al Dhafra, the U-2 pilots could go in to Abu Dhabi and get massages with an American chiropractor.  Apparently, the Emir was in Minnesota a few years earlier, used their services, and asked them to set up shop in Abu Dhabi because he was impressed.

I head downtown the day after a flight, and during my consultation with the American doc, I discussed my neck issues, explained that I had almost no feeling in my 4th and 5th finger in my right hand for the past 2 years, and he took x-rays.  Finally, I go back for my 1 hour massage with one of the four masseuses.  All four of them were from China, spoke almost no English, and apparently were pretty well trained.

After about 10 minutes of her working on my back and neck, she has me turn over, and in broken English asks which fingers are numb.  She proceeds to work my chest, pectoral and arm pretty hard.  After about 15 minutes, she sees the tears working their way out of my eyes and in more broken English says "too hard?"

    "No!  Keep going!"

When she was done, I felt like my chest and right arm had been turned in to ground meat.  But it felt great.

About an hour later, on the drive back to Al Dhafra, the feeling in my fingers came back.  And it remained for many years.  I could hardly believe it.

That experience made me a believer in massage therapy and chiropractors.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulnar_nerve

This nerve is directly connected to the little finger, and the adjacent half of the ring finger, innervating the palmar aspect of these fingers, including both front and back of the tips, perhaps as far back as the fingernail beds.”

    Story checks!

  12. IDGAF if Maj Gen Wills “cares” about anything or not. He’s got a job to do, and it’s extremely disappointing that he doesn’t grasp the concept of increased retention pay being cheaper than the expense of replacing experienced guys. He also thinks he can’t afford to compete with the airlines, which is a foolish take on the problem. The truth is that he’s spending billions to train the airlines pilots for them.

Drunk driving convictions should have a mandatory 1-year jail sentence with driving privileges suspended. It’s one of the most deadly things in n the country.

A year in jail? Really. For how much BAC? 0.03? Career over, marriage over, kids disgraced for something I’d bet you’ve probably done yourself once or twice at a much higher BAC and gotten away with...

I got a similar email today from my airline... oh wait, no I didn’t.

Everyone do yourself and your family a favor and loudly vote with your feet. And by loudly, I mean tell everyone the exact reasons you are leaving. I truly believe this is the only way us little people can make a positive change.

What time do you show for your airline?

There’s no way to compete with triple the pay for pilots, better family life, and more predictable scheduling.

Well they could at least double they pay and save money over training the replacements. Triple, I don’t know because the charts cut off with an upward vector.

Curious, it's been a year or two now, but the reduction in ancillary duties...has that actually hit anyone? I'd say every single extra duty that was removed has returned plus maybe one or two extras now (voting officer, records management, CNO, gate guard, DDRP, etc). The only one I was happy to see was PT testing being done in Squadron...but I honestly can't think of a single extra thing that has actually gone away and not come back.

Records management? Is that a job in a squadron? What do they do?

  17. I think Tom Cruise has figured out the retention problem. Line flying O-6, qual’d in at least 4x planes simultaneously, and personal motorcycle storage right on the flight line.

Edit: especially since the taxpayers will think this is reality anyway after this movie comes out.

  18. Lol, Alan Dershowitz was Epstein’s defense attorney for soliciting sex with minors in 2008. Now he’s named in this case.

Usually I’m and innocent until proven guilty kind of guy, but in this case, yeah, it’s probably all true.
