    taciturnity

Of course, I know what taciturnity means, but for those who don’t:

    - the state or quality of being reserved or reticent in conversation.

    - Scots Law. the relinquishing of a legal right through an unduly long delay, as by the silence of the creditor.

So yeah, you know, being reticent dude. Totally. Which for the dummies out there means:

    - disposed to be silent or not to speak freely; reserved.

    - reluctant or restrained.

So like when you’re disposed. Which means:

    - having a certain inclination or disposition; inclined (usually followed by to or an infinitive)

    Ok fuck I’m lost.

  2. I can confirm that a DC-10 is unable to fly 100kts. If a DC-10 can be used as a firefighter, the C-17 would be more than suited. For the similar MGW aircraft, look at the difference in the wing chord and angle of incidence. The C-17 is at like 20° AOA sitting still.

  3. There are some significantly different jury rules that apply to military members. Only 2/3 majority is required (unless it’s for a death sentence), and it’s extremely unlikely that you’ll have a jury of peers on a base where you know all of your peers personally.

Civilian defendants have a much better chance than military ones.

Or it could strengthen their resolve, unify factions against a common enemy, and create a surge of patriotism/nationalism, making Iran a bigger problem, even if we smash all their toys. We're unlikely to occupy them, and I don't really see any surrounding countries itching to invade them, so the regime just has to wait us out, similar to Vietnam.

Vietnam was the US being in country during a civil war where the locals were 70/30 on the other side from the start. Let them sort the internal shit out, I would only recommend attacking Iran’s capabilities to wage war outside their borders.

Regardless of if you think this was a mistake or not, if this leads to war with Iran, it is going to make our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan look efficient.

Iran is another beast when it comes to size, population, terrain, etc.

I mean Tehran is the size of New York City and the area surrounding brings the population to something like 16 million. The country's population is almost as much as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria combined. And it's larger than the three countries put together.

And all of that is ignoring the militaristic and economic capability differences between the country of Iran and the different terrorist organizations we've fought for the past two decades.

I think that while the people here may be an exception, most Americans don't really understand what an undertaking a war with Iran would be. They see the Middle East as one homogeneous area and have heard Iran and Iraq mentioned together for so long that they equalize them.

The dude needed to die and the world is better off without him, but I'm hoping his status in the country and its leadership doesn't lead us into another war.

You know, war doesn’t have to mean regime change. Destroying all their shit, making them look inept to their own people, and walking away could effect a lot of internal change.

  6. There’s also a little blurb in there that the Air Force has to pay $55m to fix Boeing’s boom latching problem because the contract was poorly written. Oh well, just write another check!

edit: also at least 4 years until IOC. This is fucked up beyond belief.

Ah, there it is. I feel like we just got to the “that’s it!” point in a naming. Deadbolts and magnetic signs.

  8. I’ve definitely seen it on deployments as well. Room full of fat base ops airmen distracted by morale drive movies that would only help us when directly and loudly engaged. Compare that with the Marines manning Kadena base ops that snapped to attention and almost seemed embarrassed that they didn’t have enough to do.

There are two different Air Force cultures; we have too many of one and not enough of the other.

Doubt it. Especially since they recently made it mandatory for nearly every building on base to have a breast feeding room with a bunch of amenities and it can’t be the bathroom. Took away a lot of office space for buildings that couldn’t really afford it and they aren’t used. Just more social justice warriors creeping into military life weakening it

Lol, ok that makes sense why the Weapons School turned a broom closet into.a breast feeding room.

  10. All a very interesting debate. Answers should only come from realistic problems. What’s the likelihood that a particular system or procedure will fail you in a current war? What’s the likelihood in a future war? If said system fails (or is denied), will it raise your risk a notch during certain phases? Maybe that’s acceptable and not worth the training costs to mitigate it.

However, if a targeted attack on your Achilles Heel isn’t likely but would result in a F-Kill for your entire MWS, then it’s probably still worth it to train to it.

Decline school: Why would you apply in the first place? So we’re only sending folks who get their way now? Perfect. Again... need two tracks.

Civilians: Not being in the SQs, I’ll accept this, but it sounds like only ACC is getting this... and we wonder why AMC and SOF folks are leaving for the triple six figure paychecks and the 3 weeks off 1 week on plans.

I didn’t apply for school, but if I did it would’ve been to one of those foreign ACSC deals as a backup to what I primarily want to do. I would’ve appreciated the ability to say “no thanks.”

  12. If I ever have to be the IO that writes a 150 page report on why some BGen extended her TDYs by a day to attend retirement ceremonies costing the Gov a whopping $690 per occurrence, I’m doing whatever I can to eject from the AF. The amount of effort that went into that exhaustive investigation boggles my mind. There are so many real tactical problems out there to be solved, and so many $billions wasted on bad acquisitions, and some poor guy devotes all his waking hours to this.
