Because it doesn't matter what percentage isn't in the ICU. What matters is that ICU capacity has been overrun. There's no more room for cancer patients, car accident victims, someone who had a stroke, someone recovering from heart surgery...because people decided that they weren't going to take a vaccine that over a billion other people have already taken for ideological reasons, not for rational or medical reasons.

In 2018-19, about 35,000,000 people in the US got the flu. 35,000 died. The DoD mandates a vaccine for a virus with a .1% death rate. Death isn't everything. Immobilization is just as significant of a factor. Agreed. So...are you now saying you support Covid vaccinations?

I'm curious, then. What is your cutoff point for making a vaccine mandatory. You're clearly all for mandatory polio vaccines, because "polio is worse than Covid". OK...how about measles? TB? Rubella? Where is your line in the sand where you say "it's OK to mandate these vaccines for kids going to school, it's not OK to mandate these other vaccines for adults in the military"? Bonus points if, in all your number-crunching, you want to propose a public health solution that the CDC and FDA haven't already pushed.

Right...public health protections that use vaccines to reduce risk are entirely incomparable. Just like seat belts and traffic laws. The only thing that matters is not taking the Covid vaccine for some reason, after taking a half dozen other vaccines. I don't have any more arguments for you. The vaccines reduce the spread. The vaccines reduce the severity. The vaccines have a very low rate of side-effects. I don't have any new arguments for you. The data has been cited over a dozen times in this thread alone. Get the vaccines or don't, I don't care. But if you don't get them, then you're probably gonna be hunting for a new job, and most of the airlines are also pushing people to get vaccines or have some kind of consequences. The entire federal government is following the DoD's lead on mandatory vaccines. So...maybe start your own anti-vaxx t-shirt company?

But if you have the shot, why does it matter if school kids get it? You're protected, right? Why the mandates for public school children to get vaccinated for polio, measles, mumps, rubella...I mean, those kill fewer people than Covid has every year, why the mandates?

Well, in the military, it's because even if you want to be a dumbass and don't care about your own health, the military still needs you healthy enough to be ready to fight. Same reason they make you get the flu shot every year even though relatively few people die of the flu - because if you're sick in bed at home for a week with the flu, that's a week you aren't getting in the cockpit.

It's the Pfizer vaccine. This is like demanding the military give you Motrin instead of ibuprofen.

Pfizer is the only one you ARE mandated to take. The others are still under an EUA (remember when no one was going to take an unapproved vaccine?).

Take it up with SECDEF. They've already kicked one person for refusing the vaccine and mask. I'm pretty sure there's about to be a bunch more. I'll be cheering each and every one.
