    Baseops Chat

would it be possible to have the chat be a module at the top of each forum, instead of its own thing? That way I could be chatting at the same time I'm browsing a forum or thread...
  2. so what exactly do we need advanced boresight equipment for? I can think of several possibilities: a. when the copilot neglects to do a PPOS on the INS prior to shutdown b. when the copilot neglects to ensure proper coords prior to starting the GC align (see a.) c. the GPS isn't keyed, and so won't do an air align of the INS, and the pilots forgot how to do a fix/flyover/update (or never knew in the first place) d. for the fire control system that we really really need http://www.defpro.com/news/details/13375/
  3. as long as your SURF/PRF shows it's done prior to Spring 2012 (you said your board was in 2012), then that's good enough. You want your wing leadership to know you've checked both those boxes so that you get a DP leaving the wing.
  4. well of course should be on the team...

    either sounds good to me...
  6. let's KIO on the speculation and let the Safety Investigation Board do its job.
  7. I know a guy who travelled to/from his TDY in a Cessna, along with someone else. Finance tried to not reimburse the pax on the grounds of him not having a PPL, which was total BS. It was his mode of transportation so finally they saw the light...
  8. HH-60P is already taken by the ROKAF.
  9. the 479th used to be at Moody. Glad to see it's back in action!
  10. why can't they be certified via an electronic signature on the CAC? That's what we do with OPRs and EPRs.
  11. ASBC attendence was on my PRF for the O-4 board.
  12. I bet the program code is not linked to your base e-mail addy. Usually program codes are majcom-specific. Go search the Portal for "(Your MAJCOM) HUP/EPP"
  13. I was at Moody for 4 years, and the only UCI to happen occurred 2 months after I PCS'd.
  14. doing HAR in OEF, a Pred decides to fly right in front of us...this is not the scary part...the scary part is when the tanker decides to jink (AFTER the Pred is already at the 1 o'clock and cold, so no factor anymore). We were lucky no one was in precontact at the time, otherwise I'm pretty sure the tanker would have hit one or both of us while following his TCAS commands. We held our position, and ended up below and in front of the tanker, who then decided to call a breakaway. If he had done nothing, we would have been fine... ignorance is bliss...under the hood in the back of the T-34, shooting a fake instrument approach into Crestview (real approach plate, add 5000' feet), when I hear a "bbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" and suddenly the IP takes the controls. Apparently a Twin Beech pops out of the clouds right in front of us heading straight for us, which I found out later. Similar thing happened at Moody while we were doing an FCF for max power checks and had a throttle dragged. ATC pointed out the traffic to us about 10 seconds later...
  15. from looking at my W-2, it looks like I got too much non-taxable income as compared to last year's W-2 with a similar number of tax-free (CZTE) months. On the order of $10k different, give or take. I think maybe this stems back to the issue of my CZTE not being stopped from Feb-Jul, even though I've already resolved those debts and taxes. Who do I need to talk to about examining my W-2?
  16. shit, backing into parking spots is the national pastime on Okinawa. This is the first I've ever heard of getting a ticket for that...

I raise the bullshit flag on that one. I'm an FSO, and I'm well aware of safety privilege and the like. Telling someone to ask their FSO to look in AFSAS is common sense. I have no idea about the answer to his question, but pointing him in the right direction (the right direction NOT being Baseops.net) to get an answer shouldn't be frowned upon, it should be applauded.
  18. someone should request a helo and see what happens... p.s. brief is spelled brief.

  20. wow (but I did actually find the content interesting).
  21. there's nothing as fun as flying a helicopter, and there's no greater job satisfaction than saving a life. I'm lucky enough to have the opportunity to do at least one of these things on a near-daily basis, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. "These Things We Do, That Others May Live"

  23. ok, so use MPS instead. Same slower service, but FREE... I mailed something to myself via MPS from Osan to Kadena and it beat me there (1 week). A friend mailed us stuff downrange via MPS and it took 2 weeks. Of course sometimes it can obviously be slower, but for an extra week, FREE beats priority mail.
