I couldn’t tell you the brand of syrup in my cupboard. What, you going to spring some gotcha “you’re racist” bs?

If you care what some company out there calls it’s maple syrup I submit that you have too much to worry about.

He’s probably more interested in whether you like dog shit fake syrup or not...says a lot about a man’s character!

  2. I wonder if the board has realized yet they’re a bunch of racist POS. No?...I didn’t think so. Step 1 of minimizing racism: start at the lowest levels...if parents/residents of that area aren’t calling them out in droves, then we don’t make progress as a country.

  3. I hope heads roll on that one, unbelievable. And the “lesson” they’ve taught, again, is don’t trust the police. That’s an invalid lesson and not applicable to 98% of cops, but shit like this makes people wholesale distrust all cops. I’ve always had positive interactions with police and appreciate they’re service to the community, but no matter how nice one is, they will never be allowed in my house, vehicle, etc. unless I have no legal choice.

How is "go talk to a black person" who experiences issues "avoiding something"?   Data collection is an essential component of problem analysis.  I'm not suggesting everything you hear will be fact or even relevant.  However, it is intellectually fragile ground to make claims about someone's position without at least speaking with them.

That said, maybe you have done so.  If that is the case, I'm interested in what you heard.  Were any of your opinions challenged?

The irony is for the amount of black people you’ve talked to who support your viewpoint, I have 7 (yes I’ve counted when I thought about it) black friends who do not share your viewpoint (and 3 of them came to this country on a raft as a child...so no, they’re not from a “privileged” family). They are along the thought process espoused earlier in this thread that historical treatment and past laws have been terrible/discriminatory, and there are absolutely things to address and make better today, but there is not a systemic, nation-wide, far-reaching (or whatever other adjective you want to use) problem of racism. It is real and they want it gone, but it is so wildly blown out of proportion when attached to words like “systemic” and the focus of those who are well intentioned is significantly misguided.

So consider this, or just throw it away because it’s counter to the narrative, but I hope you guys don’t, because it’s certainly a perspective that needs to be considered so we can move forward in the most positive direction, without being misguided so strongly by bullshit spewed by the media and politicians.

So you should be able to infringe upon others who want to be vaccinated? WTF is wrong in the US?

Too many Americans think everyone who doesn’t think/live exactly like them is hopelessly wrong and must be corrected through all means necessary. It’s a very dangerous slope we’ve all been slipping down for years. I support those people’s right to be anti-everything, just as I support the right to get vaccinated if you so choose. Neither side has the moral high ground, but they sure think they do.

  7. FltPlan Go is great (and free). I use that combined with a stratux. I have 2x Foreflight IPADs at work, and I still don’t give a shit about bringing them home to fly GA, that’s how good FltPlan Go is. Foreflight is certainly the gold standard, but not worth paying for when I can have the other one free.

  8. Can’t find primers anywhere other than way inflated prices on gunbroker. I kick myself every time I think about my many opportunities in previous years to stockpile...never again!

On that note, anyone have any lines on primers that aren’t ludicrous gunbroker price gouging?

For what gun and how much if you don't mind me asking?

Got a Dead Air Wolfman for 9mm and 300 AAC. I’ll use it on a couple 9mm pistols and an AR .300. I got it through silencershop.com, who works through local dealers if you so choose. Mine was available immediately at a LGS, so that allowed the paperwork process to start immediately. About $1k total, including tax stamp and trust fee (I’m using their option to set up a trust for me vs. doing it all myself).

Edit: Can also use it on .223 and 7.62 (semi auto only). I think it’ll be a great all-around can; I will probably buy another one at some point, but I can’t see myself buying more than that...rather spend that money on more guns/reloading supplies.

    Speaking of ACSC...

What is the general stance regarding promotions in Guard units right now for those who elect not to do ACSC in correspondence?

I am rolling the dice after giving up way too much of my life to SOS and Masters bullshit while on AD. I really cannot stomach the thought of subjecting myself to another Air University time bandit. We’ve had a few guys in my unit promote with fewer career/flying-relates boxes checked than I have.  Just curious how other units have been treating ACSC lately.

Some units culturally do ROPMA to O-5...no ACSC, but it does mean you promote 3 years later than you otherwise would have. You don’t care now, but you might once you do the financial math...I would have lost out on almost $30k in the aggregate (counting BAH differential). So personally it came down to, “can I stomach doing ACSC for an additional $30k?” Yes I could.

Additionally ROPMA is not a guarantee, seems dependent on the state; can’t speak to AFRES personally, but do know a guy who’s on thin ice and may be pushed out by shitty leadership (he refused to do ACSC)...and he’s one of the highest producing individuals in the AF, so if he gets booted, nobody stands a chance in that corner of AFRES.

but gun store employees are notorious for being full of shit sometimes...

It’s amazing the dumb shit I hear sometimes, even more so when they’re talking with the “I’m a gun expert” type. You would think owners would screen for general firearms/shooting knowledge in the interview.

Might as well give every living soul on the globe a US passport

The Dems would love that...more impressionable voters, they don’t give a fuck about the actual people or the security consequences, only increasing Pk of keeping their oligarch livelihood (to be fair, this mentality is on both sides).

Make the process to gain citizenship smoother (cut a lot of the “red tape”bureaucratic bullshit), but no free lunch...immigrate legally, work illegally at your own risk with min impact to society/resources, or fuck off. I feel for the good people who are illegally here trying to make a better life, working hard, and not sucking from the gov tit, so help them out by making the process easier/smoother, but don’t just hand them citizenship and all its benefits because, well I want your vote...

  13. I was looking at the new Dead Air Wolfman - it can be reduced to 5” and 9.8 oz (from 7.5”/14.4oz),which would be helpful on the pistols. It covers the calibers I’m most interested in suppressing (9mm, 223, 300 AAC). Then I’ll have to tell my wife how I had to get a new pistol red dot sight because I don’t have suppressor height sights...it’s not my fault, I didn’t have a choice!

  14. I also have thought about the “coolness wears off” factor. That said, my two functional reasons for still considering them are:

    - Less noise for my neighbors/my kid’s hearing (my hearing is already fucked, so no factor there!) I’ve shot several suppressed weapons and am fully aware of how wrong the movies are, but they still can make a decent difference, depending on obvious factors. The 9mm pistol and the .300 Blackout rifle I shot with subs were very quiet (relatively).

    - The suppressor would help in a HD scenario, in terms of less flash/noise, leading to lower risk of overloading senses and reducing shooter performance.

  15. Any guys with suppressors on here? I keep waffling on it, mostly wondering is it worth it...

    - cost (meh, not that big of a factor, but do I do this or get another rifle?)

    - All the NFA bullshit with the ATF (timeline, paperwork, etc.)

    - Paranoid about becoming a “registered” gun owner on some NFA list. Though obviously I’ve been background checked by the FBI many times for gun purchases, so maybe this isn’t any different?

Can you point to studies that back your claim?

Yeah, 20 years of family business experience in a blue collar/welfare heavy area. Seen hundreds of employees over the years - about 2/3 will do whatever it takes to stay on welfare, including not showing up for work or full up quitting (because they don’t want to go over X hours, which would then make them ineligible for welfare). Even when offered health insurance if they work 40 hrs/wk, they refuse because they’ll just go to the ER sans insurance for everything from a sniffle to actual emergencies. “The hospital is free man, I don’t need insurance!” And those are the people getting a couple grand from the gov and spending it on weed and booze.

The other 1/3 work their ass off and make really good money considering what they do, have health insurance, etc...but they’re not on welfare, and that’s a deal breaker for the other 2/3. Talk to any small business in a blue collar area and you’ll hear similar stories, though I’m sure region drives some differences. Ironically the worst offenders in our family’s experience are 1st Gen Americans; their parents worked their asses off/went through substantial hardship to get their family to America, only to raise entitled, lazy children with no work ethic; blows my mind.

Why should military members get VA disability when they can work post military service?

I think there’s tons of abuse of that system. I don’t agree with guys getting disability while continuing to essentially do the same job/pretty much live an unencumbered life. But there are plenty of legitimate cases out there where people have life long effects on their physical ability to do things, are in constant pain, etc. They served their country and will suffer consequences of that service for the rest of their life - that’s legit disability. the construction worker could have chosen a gov job that came with disability options at the end...but he didn’t, so irrelevant in terms of making a “fairness” comparison.

Lastly to be clear, I support social safety nets and agree there are lots of people in need who aren’t defined by the 2/3 example above, but our current system breeds the 2/3, so we need to look at ways to discourage said behavior while still having support for people who truly need it. Easier said than done, but the status quo is a shit show.

You implied that suppression would lead to involvement from the ACLU. Seemed to me that implies legality. Glad to see we're on the same page.

And I do support the baker in that it’s 100% his legal right. It’s also 100% my legal right to personally hold that against him.

I didn’t imply any legal action by the ACLU (you inferred that, incorrectly), and the ACLU has taken notice and does not support what’s going on with the tech giants.

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-election/trump-capitol-riot-twitter-ban-aclu-b1785626.html.

ACLU: ”it should concern everyone when companies like Facebook and Twitter wield the unchecked power to remove people from platforms that have become indispensable for the speech of billions...It is our hope that these companies will apply their rules transparently to everyone.”

Glad to hear you support the baker from a legal standpoint.

  18. @Negatory There you go again responding without actually reading what I wrote. I never brought legality or the constitution into my statement even remotely, I simply said picking and choosing who is suppressed (e.g. double standard) is what most people are pissed about. The group who actually think Twitter did something illegal/unconstitutional is wrong (we agree there). I hope you vehemently support the Christian baker who refused to bake a cake for a gay couple.

because I’m certain if that “homeboy” doesn’t have money, he’s trying to find a way to get some.

Tons of “homeboys” exist who don’t see full time employment as their preferred option to get money - they prefer govt social programs instead (and only supplement as little as possible with an actual job). That’s the type of people the current system produces, and the type who shouldn’t receive direct payment. The system needs an overhaul, so I guess don’t hate the player, hate the game?

  20. I’ve seen social media/news splattered with “getting kicked off for violating a TOS isn’t suppressing free speech, get over it cry babies!” What these people haven’t grasped is the majority are pissed about the double standard. Kick Trump off, that’s fine, but you better be kicking everyone else off too who violates TOS, regardless of political leaning, party affiliation, group affiliation, etc. If you don’t and are choosing to punt people off your platform you disagree with politically while looking the other way for people you do agree with, well that’s suppression. The double standard is what people are pissed about - to the point the ACLU is concerned about it, and the Twitter CEO admitted they need to work on being more uniform across the board because not doing so is dangerous. I’m sure Jack only said that to save face after the recent backlash.
