  1. Just going off of what previous AF docs said about my cholesterol and the limits set by the lab (0-99) I just went to. If my LDL is not really high then great but I haven't been too concerned about it even when they first told me a couple years back.
  2. Doc, I just got some lab results for an upcoming deployment...I'm a civilian now and don't have a PCP so I went to a clinic my company set me up with. Apparently I have abnormal blood work b/c of high Creatinine Serum (1.28H mg/dL) and LDL Cholesterol (121 H mg/dL). I know about the cholesterol, it's high, and it's the bad cholesterol. I'm more concerned about the Creatinine b/c I know nothing about it other than what I read online. The limits the lab set for me are between 0.76 - 1.27...so I'm just above the "normal" range. Is it something I should worry about and go talk to a doc over? They said I'm still deployable so I imagine it's really not that big of a concern.
  3. I can't believe his shirt is undone in this photo. I thought there were dress and appearance standards in the AF...
  4. Sorry bro...they only posted some of it. They cut you off at "If it isn't appropriate to do so then it pr"....
  5. So an officer will report to an enlisted person now for counseling? Also, who the hell would give their id card to somebody they didn't know? I see that policy going really far.
  6. No fucking joke. So why don't you guys just keep a bus on the flightline running ready to take anybody that needs it a lift to/from their jet? This way, you're not just sitting on your ass back in the breakroom waiting on CP to give you a call? That would make too much sense though.
  7. I asked a sky cop this once and his response was that it is not tactical for air base defense. Then I asked why I have to wear it and he said so they know who not to shoot. Sad thing is, I don't think he was joking.
  8. In no particular order to name a few... Hoegaarden John Smiths Guinness Natty Light Boulevard Wheat I don't think it's possible to name one particular beer as a favorite.
  9. we're screwed now...the ninjas are working out
  10. life is great there...flightline kitchen (roy's) is a hell of a lot better than the dfac. make sure you make the trip to get the steaks on sundays rather than eating at the dfac. everybody lives in the same type rooms unless you are permanent party. you'll have 1-2 roommates...decent rooms but small. all have tv and wifi was just being set up when i left last winter but only in the area around the pool. the bx is small and things go fast but they usually have a good selection of stuff there. downtown is a good time and fairly cheap....make sure you visit la casa de habana for good cuban cigars. the base itself is small but life overall there is good. you can't ask for a better place to spend a couple months. there is a lot of gayness there though but i've heard that's changed somewhat with the new leadership. you'll enjoy your time there...it's much better than the died.
  11. if comm issues it to you then you can retrieve your mil email...otherwise, no dice.
  12. wouldn't you if the last couple times the shuttle flew it 1) blew up on reentry 2) there's a massive chunk of the heat shield missing? i would.
  13. he's a former Marine so that's probably why he said that. as far as the whole push for making people wear it please tell me that it's not going to be mandatory for 9/10.
  14. revival after two years? is that a record?
  15. it is definately not. completely different agency but....i'm on the terrorist watch list for when i fly commercial airlines. everytime i have to use the counter and wait in the line so they can clear me through their computer system, i give them my military id to speed up the process...there is always a good chuckle with the counter girl about the irony of the list. i've submitted the request to be removed from the watch list, stating i'm an officer in the AF and i should surely pose no threat. included a pic of my id and passport as requested. i get a nasty gram back from dhs stating they'll be looking into my request but i will not be removed from any list. apparently there is an ira member out there with my name. no big deal though, just more hassle that i really want to deal with everytime i fly. but it does give me a chance to talk to the cute airline girls behind the counter.
  16. i thought the deal was you break your wings so that you won't break your next set of wings (read: aircraft). you're to give half to somebody you care about and when you're dead they're supposed to give you the half back so you'll have your wings on the other side. i dunno though. that's what my bro said when he tossed me half of his. he went through in '98 or '99 i think.
  17. slacker...i enjoy everytime you post b/c of your avatar. good job. btw, how/why are we still talking about this? i think i've boiled this entire post down to this.... 1. some people demand to be saluted by people they outrank, both pilots and nonpilots 2. some people don't care if they get saluted, both pilots and nonpilots 3. nobody will change their way by reading this post so... what else is there really to discuss?
  18. i used some from my opr but i didn't get picked up this past year. i know dudes that did use a lot of opr bullets and got picked up. i say go with your gut. best of luck.
  19. a guy i work with was in saxophone player for tops in blue back in his E days....he tried telling us all in our office how cool it was. we just laughed at him. apparently it is a "big deal" to be part of the band. i am glad to hear though they do not get per diem for their travels or family separation pay for the year they're in it.
  20. dude, i'm an o, not an e. i've seen plenty of chiefs talk down to a 2lt. i've seen it happen to captains. sit in on a meeting at an amxs, mxs, or muns sometime when you're done w/upt and it'll happen sooner or later. you're right, the good ones will teach you everything you need to know. the good ones will also close the door on you sometime and put you in your place. also...you can tell a lot by what that snco thinks of you if he addresses you as Lt or Lieutenant.
  21. pretty sure they were all "constructive comments" towards you. who gives a shit if the base wx guy gives it to you. also, what people are you talking about? as far as being an officer...yes, you are one. congrats. you graduated college and wear some bars. you know what the difference b/w a 2Lt and an Amn is? the Amn has been promoted once already. you're going to get blown off as a 2lt...it happens...it happens as a 1lt too. it'll probably happen when you're an fgo too. the only thing you can do about it is correct the person when they do. try saluting the Airmen and say hi when they walk by you and don't salute you. i bet they'll salute and say "uuhhh, sorry sir" or some bs. this way you can get your salute and not be a jackass by jumping their bones about it. hope this helps.
  22. torpedo factory in old town (it's a cool art gallery). b-more aquarium/science center. all of the other stuff mentioned is good too. i'd def recommend the air and space downtown as well as any of the other smithsonian museums. wilco mentioned adams morgan....DO NOT take your kids there at night...it's the college bar district and sometimes isn't the safest of places. if you and your wife want to go out for a romantic evening, there a thousand small places in g'town. a really good mexican restaurant is L'Oreal Plaza (or something like that). believe it's on the corner or near 18th and M. in dc, don't wander too far off the tourist areas, you can get stuck in the ghetto real quick. g'town is fine all over. don't get in a cab that doesn't have a meter either...those are all over the place. dc rocks, i can't wait to get back! edit: can't believe nobody mentioned the AF memorial. check it out, i haven't seen it yet but have heard good things.
  23. b/c every time we start to develop one, somebody decides to go and changes things. so really, our heritage is constant change!
  24. eczema shouldn't be a problem...my bro has it. but i wouldn't put it down...a civilian doc said you had dry skin once. the military won't ever hear about it unless you put it on there.
