  1. FWIW, MOAs are established outside of Class A airspace. In the US, if you think you're in a MOA above FL180, you're actually in an ATCAA (Air Traffic Control Assigned Airspace) under a MOU between the military and controlling agency. You HAVE TO be on an IFR flight plan in an ATCAA above FL180. To the best of my knowledge, there is no requirement to maintain VMC in either an ATCAA or MOA unless specifically noted in the MOU and/or FLIP, NOTAMS, local procedures, etc.

Crossbreed holsters are the best money can by for "summer weight" concealed carry, IMHO. I have two, one for my Sig P229 and one for my new Ruger SR9c. With the SR9c IWB holster, I can carry wearing shorts and a tucked in T-shirt, and under normal circumstances, you can't tell I'm carrying. Works even better for larger framed dudes. Check out the supertuck deluxe: http://www.crossbreedholsters.com
  3. Confirmed. The 44FS are the "Bats". So, I'm guessing that has something to do with it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/44th_Fighter_Squadron I always wondered why the 67FS (Fighting Cocks) never rebutted with their own artwork on their roof.
  4. No. Any zipper-suited senior officer will tell you they are "ops focused". While not entirely untrue, the focus changes from being a crew dog and helping your bros to not looking bad in front of your commander friends and not taking dings on inspections so that you impress your general officer boss. It's called the O-6 lobotomy. Entire different animal than a shoe. But lets keep this on topic. Or better yet, since we all agree to disagree (with you), you should probably go and get that pick-up from spot 52. thanks.
  5. This is an easy answer. The O-6 lobotomy.
  6. I've got a great one that has nothing to do with being aircrew. Just general ass-hattery. Follow with me here... /rant on I PCS to base X. I move into a local hotel. Finance says the JFTR provides reimbursement for 10 days of temporary lodging during a PCS (TLE/TLA?). On day 2, I find a house, make an offer, offer gets accepted, arrange for all utilities and other various necessities to be set-up/delivered in the following 3-4 days including an early move-in agreement. I figure, "sweet, I'll be moved in way before I hit that 10 day mark!" Apparently TMO is too undermanned to actually provide a face-to-face service anymore, so you have to "self-counsel" on a website to arrange your HHGs to be picked up and delivered at the appropriate times. So, after I inprocess the MPF, I go to comm to sign my life away and get my NIPR access, so I can use my CAC to log-on, and arrange for my HHG's to be delivered. But I can't log-on (the dreaded credentials not verified) so I go back to comm. They say I need to wait 24 hours for "the system to update". So I do. Come back the next day, can't log on. They say I need to go back to the MPF to have my CAC repinned. So I do. Then I try to log on again. credentials not verified. Comm says (again) that I need to wait 24 hours for "the system to update". Rinse. Repeat. Long story short, it took me 3 days to just be able to access the website to request that my HHGs be delivered. I did go to TMO while this was going on (hey, they'd be able to help, right?) but they said they weren't able to access my information and my only choices were to log on to the website or call JPPSO directly (whom, by the way, stop answering their phones at 1530L). So what, would you say, TMO does here? Day 6, I log into the website and request that my HHGs are delivered ASAP. On day 7, I call JPPSO, and they say I need to wait for the local carrier to call me and arrange a delivery time. On day 8 I get a call from the corporate HQ of a delivery company 1500 miles away, and they say it will be 8 days until they can deliver my HHGs which are in storage a few miles from where my house is. I wont even go into the ass-chewing I gave the poor girl after all of this. Bottom line, since day 3 all I've been waiting for are my HHGs and I'm good to go fight the war and hack the mission for the Air Force. Instead, it'll take 16 days, because of the above bafoonery. And I have to pay for 6 nights in a hotel room with my 6 month pregnant wife and 75lb dog OUT OF POCKET! Thanks Air Force! I can't help but ask myself, "I wonder if it works this way in corporate America?" The terrorists are winning. /rant off Disclaimer: This post was more of a vent than anything. But if its been a while since you've PCS'd, beware.
  7. Ummm... you should probably stop polling baseops.net for the answers to your IAC questions. +1 for resourcefulness, but go get yer nose in the books!
  8. Not true about the JCI. You just have to find a place that will do it. Talk to Brad at Bike Shop Gixxer up north on Hwy 330 (I think). He'll hook you up. But, I have to "2" what stract said about the corrosion. If you aren't emotionally attached to your bike, just buy one there and sell it when you leave.
  9. I've recently flown with her. I'll "2" all responses so far. She is WAY down to earth. If she didn't have a star on her shoulder, I would've forgotten she was a General. Also a very good stick (made multiple contacts never having seen receiver A/R before). Score for 17th AF!
  10. Rumor has it that royberto's is closed....... ....again
  11. I'll be the guy wearing this one:
  12. Same desert location: Tower: "Reach ###, say conditions on departure" Guard copilot gives AC blank stare AC: "Man, it's pretty shitty" CP to tower: "Reach ###, pretty shitty" Tower: "Say again?" AC: "Did you just say shitty on the radio?" CP to tower: "Reach ###, pretty shitty" AC to tower: "Switching departure"
  13. Posting wirelessly from SOS. Fvcking kill me now!!!!!!

  15. Here's some gouge: Read the -1.

  18. The quickest (and cheapest) way? Wait for the new 61.73 to come out. Latest word is September, so expect to see it in the 2009 FAR/AIM. That is if you can wait that long. I could be wrong, but I believe there is no CFI "add-on" like you would have a multi-engine add-on to a commercial ticket. It's an independent rating.
  19. Is that 40 minutes for the one bus after midnight? Is the MV bus the same as the CC bus? How often does a Ops bus swing by during daylight hours? "... it could always be worse!"
  20. There's still pieces of my underwear pinned up above the stage at Club USA. That's from about 3 years ago!!!!
  21. Tanker guys get issued plastic knives with our boxed lunches.
  22. I'm not really sure about that one.... it's been a while. There's a possibility they just looked at primary hours. I did mine through OKC about 5 years ago. I do also remember bringing them my form 8. I think the name of the game is bring them as much paperwork as you can to show them you're qualified... but for the 707/720 they do want the 10 hours PIC.
  23. From a -135 guy: The type rating you get is a B-707; B-720. You are required to have 10 hours of PIC (A-code equivalent). This is from the inspector at both the Miami and OKC FSDOs. I'd look it up, but, I don't really care that much. That's the rules. FWIW, the ratings you can get from the T-1 is the BE-400 and MU-300, and IIRC, I did need the aeronautical orders and a letter from the commander (and military competency test, as required) to get the applicable FAA ratings. Good luck!
