Sucks it’s so slow, but I guess it ultimately doesn’t really matter. The new O-4s don’t start pinning on until September I believe. There’s still time. I just like to sport gripe about AFPC.

Just checked again. It’s showing the Major board at the SECAF and the LtCol board at the SECDEF. Both estimated release dates are late June.
I’ll check back in 2020.
-
I love that. “Nothing nefarious or inappropriate.”
-
MyPers still says SECAF. I just don’t understand how it has been pushed back so many months without moving at all (unless potentially the SECDEF). I don’t see it being pushed through any time soon if it’s waiting on the SECDEF.

Thanks @frog, @Duck, and @Breckey on the info about the boards. It’s a whole process up there I have no idea about.
@pawnman / everyone else,
I see all the posts talking about strats and awards being so important for promotion. Have you seen people who have gone the breadth of experience compete well with those who have depth? Any example I’ve thought about, the depth just seems much more promotable on paper.

Last year it got pushed multiple times too. I heard that the reason why last year was because SR’s gave folks promotes that probably shouldn’t have received them. I’m in the same boat as you. Waiting for them to update the promotion release. Last year they released the Major promotion results June 19th .
I wonder how the promotion board would know that. Maybe it's even a different level somewhere higher that's disagreeing with the 100% policy and trying to sift through records for DUI's, etc? I don't know. It just doesn't make sense that 100% promotion would need to take half a year or more to get approved. On that note though, why would it take months for any board to be approved once the board adjourns?
-
Does anyone know why it takes so long for promotion board results to be finalized and released? The CY19D LAF major board met at the beginning of Dec 2018. The board results were supposed to be out originally in late Feb-early Mar. It seems that every couple weeks they move it back further. In the last week it just got moved from late May to early-mid June. What takes them so long?

She claims to be the first female fighter pilot, but she flew A-10's....
I'll leave that grenade here as I slowly walk away.

Pawnman,
How did your major board turn out? Or is that this year you’re running into these shenanigans?
-
Anyone have insight into the new major board 100% promotion opportunity shindig? Looking at the stats from last year, there were ~3x as many DPs as there were Ps. If I recall correctly it was 100% promotion for pilots with DPs. Pilots with Ps only got around 76%. Were there good dudes still getting passed over with clean records or was that mostly from DUIs, PIFs, etc? My MPF office hasn’t known anything about the upcoming board, so I haven’t been able to get much info on how it’s working.

No PRF, just a records check and signed MEL from your senior rater. You shouldn't have been asked for a PRF - and they're due friday (ish, depending on MAJCOM) so you should know by now.

Cool thanks. I just PCS’d in the last month to an overseas base and no one seems to know who is in charge of my paperwork. Then we have locals working our personnel offices that barely speak English. Still better than trying to get anything done at finance though!

Looking at the leadership perspective though, I completely see where they’re coming from sts. AFPC screwed us in the last decade and we need pilots. We need pilots badly. It’s one thing to send a subpar pilot to a single seat jet, but when you have a guy you can throw in the right seat and learn until he’s ready. The answer to the AC question is simple. He either makes AC because he earned it or he stays a copilot until he’s ready. If he’s never ready then don’t make him an AC. If people upgrade him anyway, then that’s on the community imho.

I saw the email about U-2 interviews a few days ago and got excited, right up until the “AFPC hates you fighter pilots. No interviews for you!”
-
I haven’t seen that memo yet. I’ll take a look for it tomorrow. My understanding was that it’s a guaranteed promote unless your senior rater wants to submit a DNP PRF. It’s been tough to find info on the new process. Every personnelist I’ve talked to has said to call someone else until I get the inevitable “email our org box and we’ll get back to you”.

The SECAF released a memo today reiterating that 100% promotion opportunity means just that, opportunity, not outcome. Your senior rater can still tank you. How that plays out THIS promotion board is yet to be determined, esp after the fiasco that was the ‘09 board.
What happened in the ‘09 board?

I was the one posting about being enlisted army and a doctor, so what? You are not the first person trying to be a A-hole to me.. people don't understand why I do things no one else would.. I've been through army enlisted boot camp and medic training as a doctor and have seen tons of folks trying to mess with me just because - I'm different.
If you don't want to answer my question, then fvck off. Nobody's asking you to come here and give me attitude. A proctologist is a doctor too and deserves respect. You did nothing in your life that even comes close to what a doctor does so please don't tell me I should know answers to basic physics questions.
Sleeping 2 hours/ night in the call room, never getting 8 hours sleep at once, yet still put a smile on my face and talk to patients in the ER at 3AM answering the most basic questions they pose, sometimes that are seemingly irrelevant and annoying. Been doing that for over 5 years at American hospitals. And here you guys are, coming after me for asking something I don't know. What makes you think you can bitcch at someone?
This Airforce pilot job is a break for someone like me. As an AF pilot you sleep uninterrupted, 7 days/wk and are with your gf/wife in the end no matter how late. Even on deployments you sleep unless you're on alert. You have a life that you enjoy. Doctors in America don't. So with all due respect I suggest please mind your own business.
If you think being a pilot is a break, you’re doing it wrong. Very wrong.

I saw a lot of bros start turning that way in UPT. When half the IPs tell you if you go:
Airlift - you’ll fly drones in 2 years
Bombers - you’ll never fly, then staff job
AFSOC - it won’t drop and they’re all divorced
Fighters - you work so hard you’ll hate your life and get out ASAP
-
Is it true it’s a 100% promotion rate or is it just close to it? Also, with the changes they’ve made, has it shortened the time to promote at all or are people still waiting months-years to pin on.
-
Where do they go next?
Back to UPT.

Thanks crag. That's good to know. Any advice on Italy?

Just a midsize sedan, not sure where exactly yet. I've heard Japan plays a lot of games with you and makes you modify your car a lot. I haven't heard much about Europe yet.
-
More than likely I'll be heading overseas in the near future. Is it worth taking your car with you? I've heard through the grapevine that your car will get dinged up in the 3 months it takes to get there and then you have to deal with converting it to meet the host country's regulations. Then when you go back to the states I assume you have to undo the modifications you had done? The roads are also smaller than here in the states, so would a midsize sedan do ok on their roads? TIA.
-
Are F-16 guys still flying a lot with the mass influx of UPT grads?
