    Gun Talk

I have an HK USP .40 Compact which I really like. I originally looked at the Sig P229 as well, but the decocking level was difficult for me to actuate with one hand (not that that is something you are doing at the time, but...). I added an Hogue Handall grip, which made it a little more comfortable to handle. As far as shooting, it shoots about as well as any other handgun I have ever shot. I have only put a couple thousand rounds through it, but never even a hiccup. Definitely can't go wrong with an HK on performance and reliability aspects. Someone else mentioned the trigger. I do find the trigger pull to be quite long on the first double action pull, but you get used to it. If I shot more and was really worried about it, I would shorten it. Otherwise, it is a very consistent, even trigger. Single action is just right. I do like that the HK has a manual safety. I don't conceal carry with it on, but like to have the option to put the safety on when not carrying (I know, it's not going to fire unless you pull the trigger). This can give you another option if you wanted to carry it cocked and locked, as well. Just gives you more options.
  3. The lieutenant is about the only decent looking one.
  4. I had my motorcycle stolen last weekend out of the parking garage where I keep it. Police called today and said it had been recovered, but it is messed up pretty bad. If the police were to find out who stole it, could I sue them for the damages to my bike? (I only had liability insurance)
  5. Looks like Memphis is officially get -17s
  6. I think you have drawn some interest because your messages seem to be full.
  7. Well, I finally rode the Dragon today for the first time. I think I got one of the last good riding days for the foreseeable future. Anyway, it was a lot of fun and nice since the roads were mostly empty. Till next season now I suppose.

  9. Another story of buffoonery at the Deid. My AC was running yesterday when he hears someone yelling at him to tuck in his shirt. AC keeps running and ignores the individual. Not long after, the guy begins running alongside to make sure he was heard. At this point my AC decided it's time to stop and confront this person. I'm sure the guy (LtCol) was expecting to have some great moment by laying his power down on some unsuspecting airman, but he instead found he was talking to another LtCol. My AC politely points him to a local reg that states something to the affect of ...while performing exercise activities, shirt does not have to be tucked..., and if you know or find otherwise, come find me in bld ###, rm xx. Another sad point is the yelling, chasing LtCol had only been at the Deid since the day prior. He came out of the gates swingin'. Where do these people come from and why have they lost focus on the real issues???
  10. This is what I was issued when I was a load. It's a little on the large side, but it is an awesome knife. Benchmade 9500SBK

    Rainbow

As a whole, I'm not sure which is better, Rainbow or Bucket. I think for me personally, the Rainbow works in my benefit. Being a traditional, I will get the pre and post-deployment benefits, 3 months of tax free, and this time around, missing the summer heat that was going to be coming my way. I guess to each his own.
  12. If you don't want to go to the Best Western or Microtel, call up the Holiday Inn or Hampton yourself and see if they have rooms availabile. They may be full, hence the reason they send you to BW/Micro. When you check-in at lodging, request a certain hotel (unless you are wanting to get an apt, etc). If you get the Non-A, you technically will be able to get reimbursed the max rate, however, my experience there is that the hotels would not give you a room unless the Non-A had their specific hotel room listed on the Non-A. So, they may not be able to tell you specifically where to stay, but you just may not be able to check-in with the government rate otherwise. Also, if you get a Non-A, they will tell you some crap that you may be required to move back on base if rooms become available. That's what they told me and everyone else. They can't do that, but those calls never happened so didn't have to argue the point.
  13. Im going to be at Altus in a couple of months and would like to stay off base. Im guessing that you have to check-in with base housing first and get a non-a before you are allowed to go elsewhere. If this is the case, do the apartment complexes in town usually accommodate on such short notice? From reading this thread, the Madison Trail apartments seem to be a good place to live. Anyone have any recent experience to help out? Thanks

    Favorite Beer

I agree, Sierra Nevada is one of, if not my favorite beer
  15. I think most of the mountains in Lake Tahoe area offer discounts and Squaw valley offers free lift tickets with the exception of these blackout dates: Blackout Dates include all Saturdays of the 09/10 season and December 27, 2009 through January 3, 2010, January 16-17, 2010 and February 13-14, 2010.

    Booze Talk

I have had O'Dell's before but went on a brewery tour (all the places you listed minus AB) in Ft. Collins while at IFS. I have to say that everything that I had at O'Dell's was great, espacially the IPA I had. I love most of New Belgium beer too. While there, you can get a tray with like 6 different good size samples of their beer (for free!). If anyone is ever in the the area, definitely go check these places out.
  17. Finally picked my bike up today and went with State Farm for insurance. I paid $447/6 months for 100/300/100 and $500 deductible on comp and collis. The same at progressive would have been over 2x as much. This is for an '07 R6. Still a little pricey, but no other company came close.
  18. I spoke with a state farm agent earlier and she gave me a good rate but since I don't have car insurance through them, she was going to have to get back to me on Monday to see if she could give the same rate. It was more coverage and cheaper than Progressive and several others.
  19. I just bought a bike and knew insurance would be high from my previous experience. Just wondering who everyone has their insurance through and what kind of coverage is typical. Thanks in advance
  20. No ankle socks. You only need one pair of low quarters and yes you can buy/wear coraframs. Get rid of the leather ones. Things may change for you but the only item that needed a min of 2 displayed was underwear. Have fun being the last class of AMS.

    Gun Talk

I just bought a Remington 700 .308 and need a decent scope for it. Don't want to spend a fortune on it but don't want to get something I'll soon want to upgrade either. Any suggestions?
  22. goducks, Thanks for the approved list. In AFI 48-123v3 A7.1.4.6 it states that updates are posted on the AFMOA/SGPA website in the knowledge exchange. Do you know what the link to that website is. I have found a contact lens that works for me but it is too new and not on the current list. Just wanted to see if they had posted any updates. Thanks
  23. I must be under the radar here at the Deid. I have been here almost 5 days now for a broke plane and have yet to wear anything but civilian clothes. Not expecting to crew rest in the Deid, I didn't bring AF PT gear and have refused to spend my own money to get more at the BX. I have been just about everywhere on base and no one has said a word. I think with the British running around wearing whatever they want helps cause you fit in a little better. Maybe I have just been lucky.
  24. Wondering if the C-17 has a coffee pot and/or a way to boil water.
  25. F16PilotMD - so are you saying after being inducted into the USAF that you wouldn't have to have a waiver for knee surgery for flying status? Say you had no problem before getting in, then got hurt and had surgery that you wouldn't have to get a waiver?
