  1. It seems like not many people like it, but if I was told to either go teach at UPT or go operational as either an ALO, AMLO, or FAC, I'd go operational. It doesn't sound like it gets you kicked out of the cockpit permanently, you just have a nonflying job for awhile.

It doesn't get you kicked out the cockpit permanently, it's just one tour. It's abnormal to have a full AF career without taking at least one tour out of the cockpit. Personally, I'd rather stay flying and prefer not to hang out with the Army dudes, so if I had a choice between the two, I'd go back to UPT.

  2. I was inprocessing at RAF Lakenheath, but I've talked to plenty of dudes who were flying. There was a guard transmission for everybody to RTB and contact the SOF. On contact with the SOF, he told everybody to get home as fast as possible without going super and arm their CMD, but wouldn't tell them why. Everybody said they knew something bad had happened, but nobody realized how bad it was until they got back to the squadron and saw it on TV.

  3. I think everybody here has gotten so far spun up about the (accurately described) witch hunt that they’re putting blinders onto the possibility of Whitestar being anything but a fake.

Why do people care so much if internet folk believe you were in or not?

Any self-respecting pilot would take offense to being called a fake, internet or not.

If you're the real deal a .mil email to a .mil email would verify who you are at the office and that could be correlated to the past you claim.

He provided a .mil email, to which the response was “well, that doesn’t prove anything”

Blackstar posted almost 200 times over 20 days. You're saying someone in your office was doing that just to set you up? Kinda funny as he was posting outside office hours so must be a lot of recreation going on in that office.

No, he wasn’t saying anybody was trying to “set him up,” he was saying that somebody else from his office was posting as well. As far as posting outside of business hours, that was probably done at home. The IP address that is logged for registration is only the address from where you registered. I don’t know about the Corvette Forum, but Baseops logs the IP address from where you register. Administrators can dig into your profile and see all the IP addresses where you post from. I would imagine the ‘outside office hours’ posts would be a different IP address.

Textbook poser response (as was stated previously).

No, I really don’t think it is. He was called out, he provided a good deal of information to include names of people for anybody who wishes to contact. Refer to my first response to Fuse above – any self-respecting pilot would take offense and offer proof. Past that, I don’t blame him for telling everybody to get f***ed. Not to say he is on the same level, but I could see our crusty old godfather Rainman doing the same thing in his early days; offering up info to prove he’s legit, then telling guys to pound sound if they didn’t believe him.

BTW, pictures prove nothing. My boss is a retired RCAF Colonel, & I can post pictures of his stuff in his office & pass it off as myself.

Yes, but your missing the point that he registered with, and e-mailed me from his work address. Take a look at the picture

    4tjk2ds.jpg

Now take a closer look at the name in the picture

    6coqil2.jpg

The name on his military address is the same as the name in the plaque.

I admit, it’s an odd coincidence that the posts of Whiterock and Dimestore are intermingled with the obviously fake Blackstar, but Whiterock has proven that at least part of his story is true.

Whiterock, I do believe that an answer to those requested questions would easily quiet the crowds.

Scribe, don't you have some questions to answer?

Indeed. I've got far more faith in Whitestar being legit than Scribe. An egg, seriously? Time for the witchhunt to shift...fight's on!

  4. I registered today with my .us.af.mil email address and it took right away. Ask a Moderator if that's true if you like.

While I can't verify any of Whiterock's stories, I have verified that he has a valid .mil address.

To play devil's advocate in his defense to some of the posts -

Now I'm not a fighter guy but not the correct IFF? What about Mode 4? AIM vs Aim.....small things but it's the small that often give away the big.

    Mode 4 is IFF.

Aim vs AIM is not really that big of a deal.

To me, the above just sounds a bit off for an aviator. I don't know, I was a business major but I would like an explanation on lift causes an aircraft to fall out of the sky.

He was using an extreme example of an aircraft accelerating straight in the vertical. Lift is caused by the relative wind over the camber of a wing. Without thrust to provide that relative wind, there can be no lift. I think that's the point he was trying to make.

Again, I have nothing to validate Whiterock's story - and it does seem odd that he and Blackwell posted from the same location. But I do have a picture of my coffee mug on my desk right next to my UPT picture (as you can see, I was promoted quickly and was in fact a lawyer, a doctor, and the SVS SQ/CC).

  5. The only people who call it the Fighting Falcon are the media, ten-year-old kids, and other fighter pilots who are making fun of the gay name that the AF gave the jet.

As far as the guy - F-16 pilot and AF lawyer. I doubt it, but stranger things have happened. Major select at 26? Impossible.

As HerkDerka said, call the douche out just like they did with Princess. Post a link to one of his threads and/or his name and we'll roll over and do it for you.

  6. Good call on the smiley emoticons - I just killed three this morning and they all had smileys.

One additional item for moderators --

If you delete a spam post, go into the poster's warning section and click on "disable posting ability permanently". If you have any trouble doing that, PM me (or Baseops) with the user name so we can delete their account.

  7. Why don't you level the playing field and just have everyone wear tuxedo's?

That's a great idea - take a group of guys who have thrown down hundreds of dollars on a perfectly suitable formal uniform and make them thrown down more money on a tuxedo.

They're AF awards - 90% of them are worthless. Anybody who cares about how many medals he has on his chest needs to check his priorities.

  8. Flight commanders are generally responsible for assignment night. I've never seen this be anything much more complex than some sort of silly event that involves drinking.

Flight commanders, Protocol, and the class SRO (along with students assigned individual tasks) are responsible for graduation. While spouses are not responsible for anything, they can help out. From three years of UPT graduations I don't recall any spouses helping out with the graduation, but there are generally 2-3 of them that help out with the FTU graduations. Decorations are generally the stuff they put together (they stuff most guys could care less about).

Nobody has to do shadow boxes. When I went through, everybody did them individually as desired - not a great idea since it's easier to do a group order with a similar design. A couple recent FTU spouses had a great idea - they contacted all the spouses and contacted me (a Flt/CC at the time) to get contact info for parents of anybody in the class who wasn't married. They explained they were going to make shadowboxes for everybody in the class as a surprise and got the funds from the spouses or parents. They got the hero shots from the guy in the class who took them for everybody (assuming they were going to be used for the graduation ceremony) and put in a mass order. A couple hours prior to graduation, they set them up in the entrance hallway - cool surprise for everybody as they entered to building.

  9. I'm not a heavy guy, but I'll I'll take a stab at this

was wondering if spouses/families were as equally discouraged from joining their spouse there as they are at Altus.

Did somebody actually tell you that you can't go? The training is a TDY (Temporary Duty) vice a PCS (Permanent Change of Station) because it is less than six months. You have a daily lodging allowance and, since billeting at Lackland is available, that amount is probably around $30 a day - not enough to get anything decent off base. To that extent, most wives don't want to sit in a hotel room for six months, so they just stay home. If you want to go, you can go.

If it is discouraged, are there good places nearby that I could stay for a few days to visit

It's not boot camp, you can stay in his room.

Second, how long is the training generally before the pilot is sent to their permanent base (I'm just talking about the C-5 training, not SERE, etc.)?

Again, something less than six months if it's a TDY. For a better estimate he can call the 733 TRS Student Support Flight Administration: 210-671-1332/4907

I know there is no one answer to the length

Sure there is. It's a formal course, there will be a specific start date and (assuming it's not too much different than the fighter FTU) there will be a graduation date. He may not finish exactly on that date, but it's a pretty good estimation.

Recommend you browse through info on the 433 Training Squadron links and download the student handbook.

  10. Awesome info so far, keep it coming. One thing I can't figure out is the actual configuration of the base(s)/post(s). I read something about "four facilities" that seemed to imply there were four different 'compunds'. Anybody smart on the facilities?

Also, how are the (DoD?) schools there? I'll have a first grader by the time I get there.

  11. I'm currently looking at a choice between Ramstein (USAFE) and Stuttgart (EUCOM). I've been to Ramstein many times and am familiar with the area, but know nothing about Stuttgart or EUCOM other than what I've been reading on Wikipedia and globalsecurity.org. If anybody here has been there - preferably in the last 6-9 years, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the location, culture, community, etc.

  12. Words from someone who attended the services

It was spectacular, incredible, and awesome. It was everything that this great leader deserved. There were lots of tears and lots of laughter. There wasn't a dry eye in the chapel when we sang "America the Beautiful" or when "God Bless the USA" was sung, or when his daughter Susan read the poem she had written for him and when his granddaughter, Jennifer Newman, read "High Flight' at the end of her remarks.

There were "Words of Remembrance" spoken by Gen. Ed Eberhart, Col. J.B.Stone, BGen. Bob Titus, Capt. Jack McEncroe, and sportscaster Verne Lundquist. Ed Eberhart who was the Commander of the Cadet Wing when Robin was the Commandant told humorous stories about some of his dealings with Commandant Olds. J.B. set the tone when describing Robin's lifestyle said that Robin was not what you would call a physical fitness freak and therefore not interested in having the perfect body to put in a casket. He said he would probably slide in sideways and say, "Holy shit what a ride"! This got a big laugh. Verne Lundquist, a very close friend of Robins told many great stories about Robin and even demonstrated his infamous golf swing. After showing the swing he said the Robin often made good contact with the ball and it would go straight. He told of a time that they were playing and Robin's tee shot hit the green, bounced twice and went in the hole. Verne said he excitedly yelled, "It's in the hole" and Robin turned to him calmly and said, "That's the desired result isn't it"? This too got a big laugh.

After the Memorial Ceremony we proceeded to the cemetery for the interment.

The Cadet Color Guard was outstanding as were the playing of "Taps" and the 21 Gun Salute. Then came the fly-bys, two T-33's in 30 second trail, a P-51, An F-86, a Mig 19, an F-16 4-ship, and the icing on the cake, a 4-ship missing man formation of F-4 Phantoms. The chills broke out as #3 climbed away in A/B.

I felt that this was very appropriate, the passing of Robin Olds is the end of an era and his last aircraft the F-4 has also reached its end. They go west together....

  13. btw, how/why are we still talking about this?

Horse has been killed, beat, and turned into glue.

You guys kill me...Stop responding with "I wish this post would die" posts and the thread will die.

  14. PilotWannaBe, you're right -- I think your IPs should be counseled on this matter. Why don't you PM me with your real name, base, and class number and I'll get in touch with some of your IPs. I'll make sure they are all aware of your plight as a UPT student and ask them to consider your feelings and have them take it easy on you.

Choke yourself, SIE immediately, and go sign up for finance OIC.

  15. Ditto both above for roomates - it's all about whose name is on the lease. I had a roomate at CBM and I ended up leaving about 3-4 months before him. He moved in well after I started renting the place, so his name wasn't on the lease. When it came to leave, we had to go in and put his name on the lease, then remove mine.

  16. Apparently, when you take your arm away the trim knocks the stick out of the other guy's hand, and the jet rolls rapidly to the right - a manouver you're prepared for but he's not.

Sounds like kind of a f****ed prank, but it reminds me of one that UPT IPs pull on their students. Up at altitude, the IP takes the jet and explains to the student that due to the thinner air, the jet is much more sensitive to changes in lateral weight shifts. IP tells the student to put their arms up in the air and, after trimming up the jet, IP does the same. IP then tells student to shift their weight and move their arms to the left - and the jet slowly rolls to the left. IP tells student to shift their weight and move their arms to the right - and the jet slowly rolls to the right. Unbeknownst to the student, the IP is gently nudging the stick with his leg. It sounds like kind a lame joke and it usually doesn't get more than a "Wow, that's cool" from the student, but (much like any other prank) it gets better when they get back to the flight room and start talking about the cool experiment they did with their IP.

  17. In addition to Hacker's, here are a couple more that get tossed out, but never seem to stick (though we have given these names to B coursers)

    "Blood Soaked Frozen Tampon Popsicle"

"(Insert name of chubby guy in squadron) Ate Me, $hit me out, and he's still fat"

"(Insert name of somebody in squadron)'s b!tch f***er"

DABOR - Dumb As a Bag Of Rocks

    STUFR - Stop Talking U F***ing Retard

FANSONG - For having an SA of 2

Other names I've seen that go along with the last name -

    "Goblin" Cox

    "Slip" Sen

    "Clint" Torres

    "Parrot" Estes

It's always fun to explain those to little kids and old ladies at airshows.
