  1. There are some interesting comments about this on John Q public's Facebook page. Gen Breedlove actually pitches in to song her praises. I don't trust a sitting general to give an impartial opinion, but it's better than the random old farts implying that she's unqualified because she's a woman and not a pilot.

  2. For those who have done the master's degree from Air University:

How serious are they about the quality of the research paper? The rest of the work has been sub-high school level expectations of critical analysis and writing ability, and I can't tell if it's going to be the same for the research paper as well.

  3. Similar news out of Holloman. The new DUI policy as briefed yesterday, on CAF/Resiliency Day no less:

If a member gets a DUI, their squadron will form up in service dress outside the Wing building, while the sq/cc, shirt, guilty party, and supervisor have a meeting with the Wg/CC. Once the meeting is over, those 4 will join the rest in formation, and march to the front gate all together to change the DUI sign. They will depart for the front gate at 1610, with the stated intention of marching in formation while retreat plays at 1630.

    Good times.

That is insanity. If that is an official policy, the person who signed off on it should be fired. Today.

  4. Anybody know whether how much a master's degree will help me get an interview at the airlines? Serious question.

My opinion on the master's degree has changed recently. I do not wish to continue serving in the USAF past my initial commitment and believe that obtaining a masters to increase my chances of getting hired when I am finally able to separate. The ridiculous AU masters is what I do when I SOF.

  5. From John Q public's Facebook page: "Why treat a bunch of adults like overgrown children? Because by the power of undergoing the senior leader deification process, you can.

This will of course alienate those who behave and do nothing to stop those who won't. But it'll make a bunch of people feel better because they "did something."

  6. No, he's saying that anything you do (talking back to a chief, tripping and spraining your ankle) becomes a significantly worse event if you've had a beer, even if said beer had nothing to do with why the incident occurred. That's why if you hurt yourself off duty, the first thing they will ask you is "Was there alcohol involved?" so they can get the pain train rolling later.

  7. Unfunded mandate. Someone forgot to coordinate that announcement correctly at the Air Staff to ensure the good idea was accompanied by actual personnel plus ups. CSS re start plan did not include any actual billets so essentially nothing but a good sound bite. I wish I hadn't spent 6 months in a job where I had to learn that...

Essentially, your CSS is just a repackaging of your UPC and secretary (if you have one) with new job descriptions.

    Wtf.

  8. I remember as a lieutenant being "invited" to watch this video where multiple O-5s talked about how they would tend to trust a religious officer more, and how they would try to provide more opportunities for advancement to religious officers. The whole thing creeped me out.
