  1. but they had no idea where I was going or anything else. I could have a child at day-care, I could have been sick and racing to the bathroom, I could have a sick parent waiting for me, etc., etc.

    Translation:

She had no children, no living parents, and wasn't sick. She was trying to get her fat ass back home to her cats.

  2. I've been around here for a long time(lurking/internets stalking/etc). I just don't post unless I actually have something legitimate to add to the thread. I'm breaking form here to say that little exchange has possibly made my week. That is all.

How in the hell did I ever miss this one? Not to mention the "...We'll continue to work on the writing and reading of sarcasm skills" rates as one of the best posts ever.

  3. You really can't fault the BCE for calling it a weapon system - it's just the buzzphrase passed down from the Air Staff and was probably prep'd to him by PA who was doing the story. He's not the first to coin the phrase and won't be the last who has to say it.

Just because it's a buzzword doesn't mean you have to act like a robot. Buzzwords are trite and make people sound like they're covering for a lack of knowledge on the subject.

If you don't have the airfield - you don't have Air Superiority.

No one is disagreeing on that point.

  4. Ugh.

It's common knowledge that airplanes need runways. But seriously, is it necessary to sit on camera and puke up buzzwords about how two miles of asphalt and paint is a "weapons system". Did anyone even think about how stupid that would sound on camera? All I want to know is when the Aerial Pavement B-Course is getting spun up.

  5. Everyone learns differently and what works for one may not work for the other.

With that said, I'm a member of the "don't over-study" camp. I'm not saying don't study, I'm saying keep it simple. Don't study too far into stuff that doesn't make sense yet. It doesn't matter if you can spout off the min wx for a formation approach on day one since you can't even start the engine yet without IP intervention.

Your first block of UPT is going to be mostly pattern work, stalls, and slow flight. Prepare for that. Everything after C4000 block is building on what you previously learned.

You're never wrong studying boldface/ops limits, NWC, and Chapter 1&3.

  6. Nice find Hercdude. When I see that video, I remember the complete arsenal that was in my toy chest. Trained to kill from a young age, it's no difficult task to figure out how most of us ended up in a military career.

Here's a good throwback. Anyone remember the HBO intro from the early 80's. I remember seeing this bad boy before the HBO comedy hour. My life would never be the same after a crash course in the George Carlin vocabulary.

  7. To anyone flying the T-6: Does the Texan remain in the spin once the spin is developed or will it fly out by itself?

The Texan is designed to fly itself out of the spin. Hands-free spins are a normal maneuver on our AHC profiles. I had one bent airplane that needed a little help to get out, but for the most part the plane flies itself out of the spin pretty quickly.

Also, does AETC still emphasize the spin recovery and prevent as much as it did with the Tweet?

No. We normally apply OCF procedures and go idle/neutral. This is because the T-6 dash one defines steady state spins as still being an OCF condition. We do have a spin recovery procedure that includes adding opposite rudder to get you out of a steady state spin a little faster.

I also remember that trying to teach fingertip formation in a high area (above about 14,000 ft) was useless. The plane was a real pig. How does the T-6 perform?

The engine has a better response time than the Tweet, but like all props, T-6s suck in the high MOA.

  8. Not much surprise here.

    Wow...

I have to admit...as a retired AF vet...I am ashamed of the pilots writing on this forum. You are a bad example for others to follow

So you're a prance-about, American-Idol wannabe on the taxpayer's dime and you're ashamed of us??? Yeah, good call.

if I knew you were flying me over to Balad or any other place, i would definitely call you out on your vociferous opinions.

If I knew I was flying you to Balad, I would kick you off my aircraft so the space could be used for a medevac.

You folks are clueless to the nature of what it really means to be part of the AF team.

    Yeah, noted.

You have no clue as to how what it takes to even keep you whiny girls qualified to fly planes.

And you do? Okay, let's do some basic math:

Poorly sung Backstreet Boys covers required to get a flight of vipers into the air = Zero.

I am going to begin making it my mission to make your lives a living hell on base...

Weren't you just preaching about what it takes to be part of a team? Flawless logic buddy.

You have to understand that TIB is an immense undertaking at each base. Logistics coordination in of itself gives each base a taste of what it takes to work as a "whole" team to get the mission done.

This is the part where I expose the fundamental flaw in your arguement. Copy, it's takes a "lot of work" for the shoe clerks to make TIB happen. The part you need to realize is that TIB isn't a mission. It's a chest-beating circle jerk of self-love and self-appreciation. Meanwhile, the crewdogs, maintainers, intel, and other ops/ops support types are getting the REAL mission down. If you don't have wings, then your mission is to support my mission. TIB has nothing to do with my mission.

You would be AMAZED at what individual bases would learn from the after-action reports.

TIB after action reports? I think I just threw up in my mouth.

Most people that walk away from a TIB show are amazed that the Air Force can even accomplish such a feat as this on such a shoe string budget and tight schedule.

UFB, YGBFSM. El Dorado Canyon, Berlin Airlift, those are feats of accomplishment. You have a dangerously one-sided view of your service. I suggest you go hang with the MX or OPS squadrons for a few days to try and get some perspective. Aside from that, feel free to eat a bowl of dick.

  9. Better yet, give the LT the "opportunity to excel" by spending the day on the line with the MX troops..let him see how "lazy" they are when they're doing the 3rd launch of the day.

Aww! Come on now, he put a smiley at the end of the sentence. Doesn't he get any credit for the smiley?

Smiley in an AF email = Kill yourself
