  1. Anybody else notice those sweet lightsuits the dancers had on in yesterdays Super Bowl halftime show? I bet those are a required deployment item within 5 years.

Take the initiative and run with it. Sounds like an 8-BPZ to Brig Gen opportunity.

  2. During UPT, I found over time that when I displayed it (usually inadvertantly) my IPs were invariably more "kind" to me on the gradesheet--willing to overlook minor "hands" flaws--if they thought my brain was fully engaged and properly analyzing/operating/reacting. This apparent advantage led me to try to figure out how my SA/GK/Airmanship could be "on" one day and "off" on another. Turns out, for me, when I learned the "why?" behind the differing rule sets, boldface, CAPs, emergency procedures, aircraft system design, instrument procedures, etc., I was able to synthesize more data more rapidly and make better decisions. When I made better decisions without IP input, my flaws in holding perfect wingtip position were viewed as "minor" deviations. IPs told me that they picked me to fly certain missions with because I displayed a good level of GK (and my hands weren't that bad). Also, what they didn't like was studs committing the same mistakes over and over, such that they could tell from a maneuver entry that this stud is going to make mistake A, then B, and sure enough that's exactly what happened. If a stud learned from that experience, that was great, but what was even better was the stud who terminated and reset rather than proceed because they didn't know any better and didn't see the mistakes coming.

Perfection. UPT studs take note, this is what we want to see.

  3. And the inevitable AF Enquirer issue with the headlines "Schwartz To Airmen: Do The Spice, Pay The Price!"

Also, expect the MDG pecker checkers to close the MDG down for seven days to receive training on the identification pumpkin pie smells during piss tests.

  4. Unacceptable and mind-numbingly maddening in every way I can possibly think of. Probably part of the reason the T-6 world is fat on BUDDA drivers.

    Leadership? Nope.

    Grand standing? Definitely.

Wasting time and rescources? Sure thing.

    FW&A? Shack.

    Good example? Negative.

    Uber gay? Absolutely.

Contradictory to everything you're ever taught as a pilot? You bet.

GearMonkey, I'd recommend forwarding a copy of that memo to the local IG.

  5. My reading came to a screeching halt when I saw this sentence in the article

    :

Despite all the help from airmen, the motto didnt come cheap. The Air Force spent roughly $400,000 for help in conducting research and focus groups, Vician said.

    Really AF...Really?

  6. But, the FBI investigated--and obviously decided nothing criminal took place

My simple explanation says the FBI investigated an abduction and found out it was just a case of trashy sex, abortion, and lying. As a result, they left if to Big Blue to prosecute since it was their business.

  7. I shouldn't have to guilt trip someone into following established rules.

One time, I broke at least three flying rules to medevac a grunt who had been shot in the head. He lived. I weighed my options and made a sound decision. I guess in hindsight I should have manned up and followed established rules. Feel free to preach to me all you want about professionalism...I don't care, I'm not a professional. You can tug on the koolaid all you want.

  8. I cut all but the important part out of your post.

I'm actually glad I volunteered to work with Civil Air Patrol. I actually learn more about leadership by teaching it to cadets than I ever really learned as a cadet myself back in my CAP cadet days or ROTC days.

  9. Kill TIB and keep the TBirds. We have enough people to fill the ranks. We need to still focus on quality recruits though.

If the quality recruits you're talking about are the same ones facebook addicts that normally haunt finance and the MPF, then I say shit can the T-clones.

F-'em both and bring back the Four Horsemen!

    Two.

  10. Do you have a sense of humor? If not, get some. Life is alot more enjoyable that way.

If that was a joke then it's one of the worst jokes I've seen. I'm trying to figure out where you're getting your info from since you seem to think that the usefulness of tac airlift depends on the enemy's equipment.

  11. Even with oil smeared on the windshield, Schiavo, the former NTSB official, said Smith should have been able to see through a small window on the side of the plane and possibly yell out to anyone below.

Really? Really? YGBFSM. No wonder he's a "former" NTSB official.

  12. My cadre told me that this is a different program since I am a POC this time and that I would have a 'leadership' role there instead of being a regular cadet like I was my first time.

ROTC may have changed since I was there, but I'm having trouble seeing what exactly an ROTC cadet is supposed to "lead" while touring an AF base. You're going to tour a base, that's it. Tell your cadre to get a life.

  13. Yes, Afghanistan broke the USSR's bank and spirit, but are we really better off with the enemy we face now?

Are you kidding me? You'd rather we fight World War III than terrorists? And the "Charlie Wilson and the Taliban" arguement never works. By that same logic, we should have helped end the mass murder in China during WWII.
