  1. If you fly Herks, the truth is you'll probably spend 99% of your time flying to the same 10,000'+ runways the C-17s go to, except instead of RTBing to Ramstein, you'll get to return to your tent at your deployed location.

Having said that...flying Herks, you'll have a CHANCE of doing something real world and cool...I finally did manage to do a real-world max effort operation, but it wasn't in the AOR. All I have to say is landing on the side of a volcano is pretty amazing.

I wouldn't say 99%. It's just the nature of ops in the sustainment phase and completing for face time with the AMC pretty boy. It's really a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I seen deployments that where mostly trash hauling followed by deployments filled with lots of airdrop/LZ opportunities.

  2. I'll save you the trouble of looking through all 62 pages of comments...the dude isn't really her boyfriend, he just pulled the pics off of her myspace page and the rest is history. He went back later and edited one of the posts with some sh!t about "fraudin," which I gather is meat head for "prank." Doesn't make the thread any less funny, though.

In that case, she needs to set her myspace to private. For her benefit and ours.

  3. I gotta say, I'm starting to feel sorry for her.

I can understand that sentiment, but there are two lessons she needs to learn real...damn...fast.

    1) Don't make stupid faces in pictures, especially if your face already looks like a bag of rancid ass.

    2) Dump the boyfriend...quick. He's convinced that she's beautiful. Despite the shit storm he's created, he will continue attempting to prove it by posting her pictures on any site that will host them.

  4. I think one solution is that instead of simply saying, "Please rise for the singing of the National Anthem", the announcer should specify, "Please stand, remove your hats, and cover your heart in honor of the American Flag and National Anthem."

Additionally, try to educate guys when you see them sitting or with their hats on.

  5. I've decided to blog a journal on the day to day activities that I will be involved with while going through pilot training. There are many reasons to why I am doing this, but I thought that maybe for those out there who are curious as to what real life pilot training is like, or who may be interested in pursuing a career as a pilot for the Air Force, but never knew where to get started or what it was like, my blog could be some sort of guide.

    Groundbreaking.

  6. I hope to find out the total number of hours the weet has flown how many sorties, and how many SP's got qual'd in the airframe

Good luck. I don't think Texas Instruments makes a calculator that counts that high.

As far as the patch goes...MD Johnson is right.

  7. I think the whole "you'll graduate as an 11M3B and as an MP" comes from the contractors on the hill. Realize those guys haven't been in the Air Force on average of about 10-20 years, and thus don't have a really good working understanding of how these processes work anymore.

That's exactly what I was referencing in my earlier post. These are the same guys who had the first few crops of MPDs absolutely convinced that they would be AC's when they graduated.

  8. Not at all...I give instrument evals to about 25% of each MPD class, and the students who didn't go through Corpus are better instrument pilots hands down. Could be attributed to the lack of familiarity with the 11-217 and 202V3

I'll agree that familiarity with AF regs is a problem for Corpus studs, they spend the real learning portion of UPT flying in a service that has little more published besides the FARs. Not to mention there is usually a healthy BIT from Corpus to the Rock. On the other side, I still think Corpus studs have better instrument SA solely based on their comfort with flying IAPs with the added stress of partial-panel.

  9. Reason number 1 why wantscheck is better........

Did you seriously think you weren't going to take any shit over your chest-beating, self-congratulatory thread about your decision to get off the couch?

Since you asked for constructive criticism, I'll give you some:

    1) You could have handled this better. A post like "I recently started running again, does anyone have any advice on how to improve my time?" would have brought you no problems. But if you had searched, you would have found there are several running threads to begin with.

    2) Think real hard next time before clicking the "New Thread" button.

  10. I think that taking Baseops out of the forum arena would take away what makes it good.

I agree with you. The whole point behind the forum is that you can view discussions at your leisure. If the majority of discussions end up in a chatroom, then the people who aren't online at the time end up missing out.

Plus half of you guys would end up on "To Catch a Predator" anyway... I'm looking at you HerkDerka

Sounds like you weren't watching last season.

  11. but now the LR Schoolhouse is saying that all MPD PIQ grads

Standard MPD rumor mill hooplah. The confusion on left seat pilot vs. aicraft commander has been ramapant since MPD started.

11M3B means you are an aircraft commander (which is determined by your SQ/CC). MPD produces left-seat qualified pilots, not ACs.

  12. This quote should piss off every single operator on this board. I've been flying for almost 5 years and I have never, ever seen this "culture of complacency". If there is a culture of complacency, it exists among the REMF, who I have to back up everytime they mess up a travel voucher, "forget" to submit paperwork so I can get my orders, or come up with some other bullshit ancillary training program I have to take. Which leads me to the real "culture" that the Air Force is exhibiting...

A caveat here, I was a FAIP and I just entered ACC. Nonetheless, I have never in my life seen more overworked professionals in my life. Even in AETC, I have almost 70 days of leave built up and I am one of the ones the with least amount. 12 hour days are the norm. Why is this? It's because we have to deal with all the other extraneous bullshit that takes away from our main duty, which is to "Fly, Fight, and Win". So, if anything, the people in the Air Force who put their pink fleshies out on the line everyday (the operators, not the 9-5 REMFs) suffer from anything but a "culture of complacency"...it's more of a "culture of being worn out flying worn out equipment".

So fuck you for saying that my buddies and I are enthralled in your "culture of complacency". All the problems will be fixed when we get our priorities straight...

  13. I'll agree with Boom. It's a rumor and NO ONE has an official e-mail in their inbox yet. From what that article said, it sounds like Schwartz is actually looking at issues that need attention.

On a separate note, did anyone else catch in that article that they changed the AF mission statement? "The mission of the United States Air Force is to fly, fight and win...in air, space and cyberspace."

Yeah, they kept the cyberspace part. But still other than that it's back to the old mission statement. No more "sovreign options" bullshit. When Moseley changed that mission statement, he had PA run about 20 articles on it.
