  1. C-21 No, I wasn't that cool! Cheers! M2
  2. Dmeg Nope, hadn't thought about that...but it's pretty good. And speaking of people who need to eat a bacon double-cheeseburger, this was in the news today... Maybe some dudes are into that... But at least Mantart has some meat on her bones, if you know what I mean! Cheers! M2
  3. I'll second that advice on Boise. It's been a long time since I was at "Mountain Goat," and the base has changed considerably since that time; but I doubt there is much that would keep you on base during the weekends. The trip to Boise isn't that bad, Bogus Basin is a great place to hang out when it's hot, or go tubbing down the Boise River. There is a nice Greenbelt that runs along the river and by BSU, and the downtown bar scene was a lot of fun. Maybe not quite 6th Street in Austin; but still a blast. Vandal, do the kids still cruise downtown like they did in the mid-80s? Sun Valley is about two hours away if I recall, it is beautiful there. There are also some hot springs up in the Sawtooth Mountains that are worth checking out. If you can't have fun in Idaho, you aren't trying hard enough! Cheers! M2
  4. I really gotta start going to the Lackland gyms! Cheers! M2
  5. Dude Please tell me you are kidding. You consider this attractive?? Over this? Way to 'ITTUO' for the team! The USAF is going after Mantart 'cause she is an attention whore. Metzger is trying to slip away under the radar. Neither is worthy to be in the uniform (especially Manhart, much better out! :D ). By the way, here she is in uniform! My TI was 5-foot-nothing, 98 pounds with a cheesy mustache and mouse glasses, but he could out-yell a foghorn. to you, SSgt D. D. Rodgers, Flt 515, 3704 BMTS! Cheers! M2 [ 22. 6. Tertle If you have questions about language proficiency in the USAF, PM me. A good bud of mine is the Command Language Officer for AIA... Cheers! M2
  7. Was that guy named Todd?? Cheers! M2
  8. Mun It depends (the usual answer). Most CONUS bases have at a minimum a carport in married housing; but overseas you have a fair chance of being in stairwell apartments like we were for our last year at Ramstein. My bike stayed outside in the parking lot with a locked cover on it, and a disk lock. Theft isn't usually a problem but that is never an absolute sure thing. Cheers! M2
  9. Other than his stint as Deputy Director for Operations, JTF-SWA and as commander of Carrier Air Wing Eight on the USS Theodore Roosevelt during a combat deployment to the Persian Gulf for ODS in 1991; does anyone know what other experience Fallon has in the Middle East? I don't know the USN well enough to tell from his bio... At least Abizaid is from a Lebanese-American family, and earned a Master of Arts degree in Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University, and was an Olmsted Scholar at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan. He also commanded the 3rd Battalion, 325th Airborne Battalion combat Team in Vicenza, Italy, during the first Gulf War and deployed with the battalion in Northern Iraq to provide a safe haven for the Kurds. He was also the Deputy Commander (Forward), Combined Forces Command during OIF. Somewhat better qualified for the job, in my opinion...but maybe there isn't anyone with those credentials to replace him. Cheers! M2 [ 05. January 2007, 08:05: Message edited by: M2 ]
  10. Just a short revival of this thread to mention that the January 2007 issue of MOAA's Military Officer magazine has a good article on the Osprey. To clarify the cost per airframe: Cheers! M2
  11. All joking aside, it is good to hear there were no injuries or deaths. That is a lot of damage, hopefully the school will recover quickly. Cheers! M2
  12. HD Y'know that's a sucker bet...maybe one of the SNAPs may fall for it; but none of us who know Doc would throw our money away so easily. Cheers! M2
  13. J. Bones Next time you post an article, please delete any and all references to retired (thank God) Gen Robert "Doc" Fogelnuts. A vast majority of us didn't care what he thought when he was USAFE/CC...and the same care even less now that he is at MSU. Cheers! M2
  14. JP Thanks for the clarification, I knew you could take a weapon on base under certain circumstances (heck, there used to be rod & gun clobs on almost every base); but nowadays it is a heck of a lot tougher. If anyone is ever in the San Antonio area and looking for a great range, Camp Bullis (in the north part of town at the intersection of IH-10 and Loop 1604) has some great facilities as well as a nice hunter's lodge. You can actually hunt on the camp but the paperwork to do so is a *****. It is much easier to find someone with some property that will allow you to hunt there. By the way, the "Bullis Buck," which carried antlers with 35 scorable points and an outside spread of more than 27 inches--a monster rack that ranks as the third-largest taken from a native whitetail in Texas--was stabbed to death with a pocket knife by Camp Bullis personnel responding to a call about an injured deer on the grounds of the 28,000-acre military reservation... (and no, that is not me in the pic!) Cheers! M2
  15. VP Thanks, the only question I have is I thought you had to buy from a Glock law enforcement distributor to get the discount. I too applaud AAFES decision to sell guns, I only wish the ones around here were doing so! My XD-45ACP Service was the first semi-auto I owned, having a couple of wheel-guns before that (one of which is a 1954 Colt .357 Magnum, which was my father's before he passed away. It is a very sweet gun!). I loved the XD so much I ran out and bought a M1911 GI a few months later. Of course, I also love firing rifled slugs through my Mossberg Persuader 12ga tactical shotgun! Big boom, big hole! Cheers! M2
  16. I just picked up a XD .45 ACP. Love it.
  17. Sweet! I have never heard of AAFES selling any firearms. I wonder how it works out, as here in Texas I have any easy time buying a guy with my concealed handgun license. How does it work from a federal perspective? It makes me wonder why the BX's in the Lone Star State don't sell them...there is certainly a market here! Cheers! M2
  18. Oh shit, really? What are they carrying? Might be time to take a trip up to Barksdale... Seriously, this will be interesting as it is--for the most part--illegal to bring a personally-owned firearm on base. I wonder how you are expected to get it outta the BX and back home? And before anyone answers, I am kidding...I am sure these are hunting firearms and there is some provision for getting them off base. As for the Glock discount for military, you have to go through a Glock Law Enforcement dealer to get it. It is about $100 off the normal price, and applies to AD, Guard, Reserve, and even us old retired slugs! The discount is also extended to EMS/EMT personnel. Personally, I prefer the XD over the Glock, especially considering the kB! issue! Some end up looking like this... Cheers! M2
  19. Concur with C17Driver, be sure to document everything as the more complete information you have for background investigations, the better. However, I have to add that even though you may not take part in questionable actions, the mere fact that you worked for a foreign government could have an impact on your future US clearances. I would try contacting the DSS before you commit to anything. Cheers! M2
  20. OK, explain to me how fighting an insurgency in Iraq defends/preserves the Constitution of the United States? I am interested in hearing how you make that connection. If anything, the connection between the Oath of Office for a commissioned officer in the USAF and the war we are fighting in Iraq fall under the second to the last line, "that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter." Maj Gilbert made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the Armed Forces of his country. He was doing his duty to the best of his ability. That is noble enough, but don't try to claim that there was any threat to the Constitution of the United States by Iraq. Not everything they taught you in AFROTC is the truth, partner. Cheers! 21. News report... Cheers! M2
  22. Steve My reply was not solely based on his comments here, but in other threads as well. Nothing against the guy, but this just doesn't seem like the right forum for him... And as I stated in my previous posts, I have no problem with pictures being taken at a military funeral. As Hacker stated, it can be very motivating for those in the fight. However, raf eng's snide comment about "isn't it ironic that the freedom's that this widow's husband died for are now being restricted" (by the way, for a Brit he sure has bad grammar, and using text messaging slang isn't the best move) was not appropriate. Maj Gilbert sacrificed his life in fighting an insurgency and trying to provide security in a foreign country. His actions were not directly tied to any of Constitutional Amendments; it is as ridiculous as saying he died supporting the right to bear arms. As the picture has been removed, I suspect that permission from the family was not given. What other explanation could there be to its removal, outside of a large protest at its publishing? Cheers!
