Air Force Academy to Guard
M2 replied to Dukeorions's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Wiser words have never been spoken! I stand corrected! -
I noticed it's been corrected. Eric at Progressive Specialties is a pretty good dude, and I wonder how this got past him as he's usually good at catching mistakes like that. His son was on this forum for a while, then went to UPT a few years back; I can't recall what he's flying these days... Cheers! M2

Actually, the Type A-2 was never specifically designed for bomber crews. In fact, they were more favored by fighter pilots during WWII because they had heat in their aircraft. Most bomber crews served in non-heated areas of their aircraft, thus wore heavier (and in some cases heated) clothing during missions. This is a great website on the history of the A-2: The Type A-2 Flight Jacket Web Page A little know factoid is that Hap Arnold canceled the contract for the A-2 in 1942 in favor of the newer cloth versions of the flight jacket! Even more 'WTF' than ever imagined!

Well, good news, Fehrenbach told The AP he is is being allowed to retire on 1 Oct... Aviator Fighting DADT Discharge to Retire Apparently he was notified in January that his request to retire with his rank and benefits intact was granted. The dude had nine Air Medals, and never "told" so there should have never been a case against him under DADT. I'm glad it all worked out for him! Cheers! M2

Honestly, given the new Army uniforms, I can see where it might happen...

No shit, commander's coins would mean a helluva lot more to folks if they didn't give them out to everyone they met! I schlep'd for a two-star for a while, and had to haul several bags full of his personal coins to Europe. It was really fun explaining to customs why I was carrying them, they acted like they were some hot commodity on the black market or something! What bit even more were the douchebags that asked me for one of the general's coins. If he wanted you to have one, he'd give you one himself you dumbasses! Hell, all you had to do was plant yourself somewhere along the line in the squadron during his grip-'n-grin, and he'd hand ya one! Yes, it's another hallowed tradition driven into near worthless triviality! Cheers! M2

I have on of the original (pre-lawsuit) GSG-5 and it's a jam-o-matic; but a buddy of mine picked up one of those S&W MP15-22s and loves it. I understand the newer AR-based .22s are much better than previous models that I think it was Colt put out. .22 "tactical" rifles are a blast when they work right, you can rip through tons of ammo and it ends up costing you like ten bucks. There's little recoil and it's great for younger/newer shooters as long as they understand they are still very lethal. One of these days I plan on taking my GSG to a gunsmith bud of mine to see what he can do, it was a lot of fun to shoot but very frustrating as we couldn't get through a magazine without numerous FTFs/FTEs. And the fact that they're much cheaper to tear holes in paper with makes them very desirable! Cheers! M2

GP That's a pretty popular video amongst the Khyper Pass replica builders/collectors, and proof than anyone who gets their hands on an actual Khyber Pass clone of any kind should never actually attempt to shoot the damn thing! Cheers! M2

I can think of one good reason...

We were just discussing this yesterday (a group of retiree contractors), and most would have no problem with a reasonable increase such as being proposed. It is still a bargain as compared to what I’d be paying if I had health care through my company. However, any greater increase would have to result in an improvement in the services received. Dealing with the military health care system as a retiree is a pain in the ass, we are going through that drill right now with my wife and some days I honestly would rather spend the extra money and go off-base than deal with such buffoonery! Cheers! M2

Oddly enough, I've got a gold crown in the works! Don't be a hater! Word! M2

They sure knew how to advertise back in the day...

I might have a chance to pick up a TEC-9 (yeah, you heard me right) for cheap... Yeah, I know, it's a ghetto gun and prone to jamming; but it's got a certain pimp-slap, Grand Theft Auto drive-by shooting appeal to it... ...and the guy who has it really wants to get rid of it (he's a Boy Scout leader and it doesn't fit the image)! Plus, Kurt Russell used one in Big Trouble in Little China! Maybe I'll put a rail and a Red Dot on it! Cheers! M2

WTF? In Los Angeles?!?

It's not uncommon for prior service guys to wear their badges from that time, or even another service. I've seen numerous examples of folks wearing badges/ribbons from other services and even other countries! Heck, people were confused by the fact that I have an OLC on my USAF training ribbon (I'm a prior guy as well). They get even more confused by the fact that I've got an Army Achievement Medal and never served a day in Big Green (it was for an exercise I worked for them). I've also got foreign jump wings I earned while on a military liaison team in eastern Europe, so it isn't always a good idea to question a badge/ribbon just because it isn't common. However, it is usually an indicator when that badge/ribbon is improperly worn! That said, I still can't fathom anyone being stupid enough to pass themselves off as a CCT! It is a death sentence if/when he's caught, if this dude's an organ donor there may not even be anything left to harvest! And Gravedigger, good eye on that upside down HALO badge. I was wondering what the fuck it was, and since I dorked the VID on the Raptor I thought I'd keep my big mouth shut for a while less I put my foot back in it again! Cheers! M2
-
He's got a MySpace page... ...that shows him what appears to be working on a Raptor... If he really was a CCT, he seems like the type to brag about it. And since I suspect that page is gonna disappear quickly, I downloaded it. Cheers! M2

The Frau's been complaining that I’ve got too many AKs, so I thought I'd share a few pics from the man cave and see if you guys agree... Unfortunately, those aren't mine; those are pics of about 600 Paki-made AK's from one house in Afghanistan! The guy who took the pics said that the parts were not interchangeable between the guns, and that they were made in small production shops in Pakistan (Khyber Pass) and sent over the border. He said the Afghans didn't like 'em, and preferred Chinese or other variants. He said he wouldn’t risk shooting one either, as they are known to be more dangerous to the person behind the barrel than the person in front of it! Cheers! M2
