  1. Probably weighing how this could negatively impact ladder climbing ability. Same type of person that sees "Go for it" = "Here's some rope. Go hang yourself."
  2. I only drove around to the front once, and that was because I wanted a little extra time to prep. Had a house on Innerarity Point. Worked with Innerarity Realty, located on Sorrento Rd. just north of the intersection with Gulf Beach/Innerarity. It's run by a bunch of retired Navy guys. They are fair and easy to work with. I loved it out there. Lived about 2 miles down Innerarity Point Road. You never really have to leave that area around Perdido. Handful of restaurants on the water all around you. Not really touristy, say like Pcola Bch or Gulf Shores. There's a WinnDixie & Publix at the intersection before the bridge to Perdido along with a hardware store. Everything's there. Johnson Bch on Perdido Key is a Nat'l Park, so you get a free pass with a Mil ID. That also helps cut down on crowds. If you have kids, they'll go to Helen-Caro Elementary which is great. My personal favorite place was Hub Stacey's on Innerarity Point. Live music 3 nights/wk, 50 cent wings & $2 drafts all day, every day.
  3. Rally, Disclaimer: My info is dated 10yrs, but at Eielson from '02-'05, I just showed my military ID and got caribou tags free. Fishing license was also given to me at resident's rate. Kept TX residency throughout. Also, to my knowledge, the PFD didn't take effect immediately after switching residency. There was a year or two grace period, so guys stationed there 3yrs only got the PFD once. Met my wife up there. She switched residency after we left because back then you had to keep a dwelling of some sort or show intent to return annually. Again, dated info.
  4. Not to diverge from the thread, but it's my understanding AFSOAWC is soon to be no more. It is supposed to be replaced by a numbered training wing. All the reasons I heard were the standard 'more efficient, better training, more AFSOC FGO, GO leadership opportunities. This was also all said by the gentleman no longer in charge of AFSOAWC, so...
  5. All's quiet in our corner of AFSOAWC at the moment. If the insuing fallout will hold off for another 30 days so I can peace out...
  6. For what I've seen deployed, a lot of dudes could care less about the hot/avg/ugliness of females. Didn't matter what they looked like. Every one I saw had at least a 6-9 male human shield chaperoning them around the base.
  7. Noted and shredded. I'll serve the remainder of my time honorably without fail, pass the torch to the next generation, and then I'll do whatever the hell suits me.

    Gun Talk

God bless Texas. http://news.yahoo.co...-181856390.html A comment I liked from the peanut gallery: "When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation…and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act."
  9. If the Navy had adopted the AETC Form 29B, this wouldn't have happened.
  10. Gearpig's questions: Short answer = 2 with afnav's perspective. After I give 20-30yrs active duty, all I want to do is open up a beach bar & grill, dive shop, or something of the like. My dollar will go further, and the bureaucracy will be considerably less. The places I'll spend time between are a different standard of living than here, the codes and regulations aren't as stringent in regards to infrastructure and enterprise, but I'm willing to trade that for simplicity and not having 69 hands in my pot. For my purposes, it's a no-brainer.
  11. My wife is Thai, so I'll have a house there. I'll split my time between Thailand, Palau, and visiting family/friends in Texas. Spent 7 months in Palau. It's the only country the U.S. has a compact of free association with. We can go there for 1 year no questions asked, and their citizens can stay here indefinitely and serve in our military. Best kept secret in my opinion.

    PCS Bingo

Learned I need to go through my 'unit health monitor' to schedule dental. 5 days after email request to said individual, no results. Attempts to catch said individual in designated place of work futile. However, I am free to call flt med on my own like a big kid. Scheduled PT test with the UPTM, no problems. Friday get an email from FSS saying if I don't schedule a PT test within X days, one will be chosen for me. Got an email RIP for my next PCS from assignments whose instructions on the email made no sense. Had to make trip to assignments to decode email. "That's just a cookie-cutter email we send out everyone. This is what you actually need to do for orders." Make it stop.
