Civilian Jobs while flying in the ANG
guineapigfury replied to a topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
You've hit the nail on the head. I'll testify that all my knowledge of teaching is second hand, but full time teaching struck me very much as "active duty" while substitute teaching was very much "Guard". My mother did both. She enjoyed substitute teaching, full-time nearly gave her a heart attack. Caveat on this is they both gave a shit about doing a good job. If you don't care about actually educating the kids, teaching is one of the easiest jobs out there. Good luck whatever you pick. -
Civilian Jobs while flying in the ANG

Why not be the substitute teacher while in the Guard? I'm seriously considering this route when my ADSC is up. You have flexibility with both careers and a greatly reduced workload on the civilian side. Both my parents retired from teaching this year, and doing it full-time nearly drove them both to having a heart attack. Expect to be one of the more competent teachers on day one due to your military experience. This will get noticed, and you will immediately have all kinds of stuff dumped in your lap. Multiple problem kids with severe behavioral issues (standard epic parenting fail) will somehow wind up in your class, while the neighboring teachers have none. Also, do not under any circumstances demonstrate any ability with computers or you will become the default IT guy for your school. Dad made both these mistakes and several of the schools he taught at did everything they could to ride him into the ground. You have been warned. -
Isn't the solution to bring in hyenas to eat the dead cows, then the hyenas freeze next winter? Just remember to lock the cabin this time. Problem solved.

Strike Eagle Extreme; 69 F-15Es take to sky

What do George Lucas and shoeclerks have in common? They both ruined Star Wars for me. -

Hopefully it was something cooler, like the Ops Group CC betting the Mx Group CC he couldn't give him 69 jets at once, and then shit got real. -
This like loyalty, is often a one-way street in the AF. You are a problem for your chain of command and they just want you to go away and you've seen the lengths they'll go to to make that happen. I'd FENCE out and take my free education with me. But good luck with getting this changed if that's what you really want.

Space & Missiles Flight Suits (GONE!)
guineapigfury replied to letsgofast's topic in General Discussion
If It cheers you up, I'm grateful that the GPS works most of the time. However, I don't understand how it works in depth so I imagine it as the love child resulting from a threeway between Trigonometry, Magic, and this guy: -
"KC-135 Refueler - Edwards AFB, California (90- minute orbit, refueled F- 16, F-18 and F-117)" This one bothered me. F-16s need the boom, F-18s need the drogue. Maybe they flew him on a MPRS bird.

I think that one is already in the tattoo thread. Too bad, she was kind of cute until a planetarium bricked on her face.

Space & Missiles Flight Suits (GONE!)

Since many missileers were on the verge of popping their flightsuits, shall Maternity ABU's be the new normal in Space Command? -
We had a the Pilots Operating Handbook, or something like that. I could go dig it out of my files if I felt like it, which I don't. And it clearly states: no aerobatics. We used it in lieu of a dash-1 because that's all we had. This ground has been covered.

2. I've seen a couple of relatives go slow, that shit sucks. Hope I go quick when I do.

That worked back in the day, but this is the "zero tolerance" era. Expect to get suspended/expelled/arrested today for defending yourself so the school can hide from any hint of a lawsuit. Also same results for leaving a steak knife from your catering job in your car in the school parking lot*. *Seen both these happen mid 90s, I have no doubt the situation has gotten worse since then.

FIFY. Both my parents were teachers, and you would not believe the stuff some of these little shits got away with because the principal is too scared to say to parents "Actually, little Johnny isn't a good boy, he's a ######tard and so are you raising for one." Most of what's wrong in/with American schools can be traced to bad/uninvolved/moronic parenting.

Classic Thread - Security Forces (SFS) Tales
guineapigfury replied to Ferg's topic in General Discussion
I'm at scooters and one of our DDs has failed to observe the ROE. So now we have 1.5 carloads of people and 1 driver. Also, we just had an ice-storm so it is stupid cold and not a good idea to leave people, as they may well pass out and Q3 life for failing to not freeze to death. There being no available fat chicks to send Lts home with(think Luke Skywalker hiding inside the TaunTaun), we do the only sensible thing and pile all 8 of us into the one available car. We successfully evade Enid's finest until arrival at the gate. Rent-A-Cop informs us "You can't have that many people in the car, it's not safe". So we did the safe thing, which was to have 3 drunks trudge home 2 miles on icy streets. -
Against my better judgement, I googled "peg boy". There is some shit you cannot unknow. That said, the above is an epic insult, and I raise my drink in your general direction*. *I don't know where this is, so I went with the local flightline.

Thirty Years Ago Today...The Falklands War Started
guineapigfury replied to M2's topic in General Discussion
I associate COIN with "hearts and minds", as opposed to a more killy philosophy of combat. I remember seeing a documentary about it, where some foolish old ###### asked PM Thatcher why they were killing so many people, and Thatcher had the good sense to mock her mercilessly. You are correct that the Falklands are properly British territory, so the Argentines were invaders and not insurgents.
