On an earlier post (First Command), someone said SGLI does not cover combat/aviation deaths. Is this true?

I just found this site and it seems very helpful for those who post questions on here so I guess I'll give it a go. I have some questions about what my fiance and I should do when I leave for UPT next Spring. We have been together for 5 years and engaged for 7 months. We are going to wait until after UPT to get married but thats not the issue. The problem is being apart for a year, or more. I would consider asking her to come with me but she is will still be finishing up college so I can't ask her that. Honestly, how rough is it going to be for us next year when I leave. Hi, I posted this question in another area of this forum as well as here: I'm going to UPT later this year, and will most likely be class leader. Are there any past or present UPT students and instructors who have any gouge and advice on how to handle a class? I'd appreciate it. Thanks

I was reading through a thread about air surperiority waning (F-15s V. Indian AF) and the "J" model C-130 was brought up with its problems and then the Herk AMP was mentioned. Was is the AMP version Hercules?

Hey everyone, looks like I'm inbound to XL for class 05-12. I've seen a few other people on here that are going as well and I was wondering where everyone was coming from and backgrounds, AD/Reserve/Guard, etc etc etc. As for myself I'm a former AD guy thats going reserve (KC-135's). I'm heading down to Maxwell in July for ASBC and was wondering if there is any internet access available in VOQ or billeting while you are there?

I always wanted to do freefall at the academy or airborne training but I know that will be very hard to go to since there are so many cadets at Riddle that want that as well. So I was wondering is there any way you can go to jump school when you go AD? If so, how do you get it and how competitive is it? Lastly, I will be going to field training soon and I have an injured wrist. Will they let me wear a wrist guard (it's pretty small)?

I was just wondering for those people going the T-44/C-12 route if they get typed? I know in the civilian world a Be-200 King Air was right at 12,500 GW, which would not require one. I wasn't sure if the military versions operated at a higher Gross weight requiring a type rating. Also, does the T-6 Texan II require one?

I've read about units paying for hotel for those who don't live in the area while on duty for the weekend. However, was wondering if travel (i.e. air travel) is discounted when travelling from out of state to your unit's base?

Two weeks ago I found out I lost my WSO slot but will be going to Intel Training instead. It's an acceptable trade. I'm actually very excited about being part of the intelligence community. Does anyone know much about Intel Training? How is San Angelo? What types of drops are there out of training? I'd really like to get into the special ops side of the intel world, specifically at McChord. Is there anything I can do to get there?

Can someone please clarify for a British civil flight/tower/atc ops person just what an option is you get cleared for? We often get things at an airfield very close to us 'cleared for the option' and that can actually be anything from a full stop, low approach, go around or touch'n'go and just what the pilot does can affect our neighbouring pattern. So just what is an option?

I'm in the market for a new watch and for those of you who have been through UPT, would you suggest a watch that has an E6B function? Is it more advantageous than than fumbling around with that gargantuan wizz-wheel in the airplane?

Was thinking...would it be worth it to go in Guard/Reserve during college if it helped my pilot chances? I'm not just doing it to help my pilot chances, I think it would also just benefit me overall as a person. I have two concerns though: a) What happens in terms of deployment if it's the middle of the semester? Is the two-week deployment during the summer or is it held at any point of the year? And what field is deployed the least? I guess if I got sent somewhere in the middle of a semester I could make up credits in the summer session, but I'm sure it's be a royal pain. Question, For active duty UPT guys, do you think it is a wise decision to buy a car before going to pilot training or to wait until one is finished. I have the oppertunity to take the USAA loan and get a good deal on a 2000 Wrangler Sahara. Any Thoughts?
