Camera angle is deceiving.  I'd love to read the full story.

Videos below show a different shot on an F-15 in January. The first video shows daylight TV view and provides a little additional info. The second video shows the FLIR image of what I think is the same shot. Either way, the missile does not bite on two flares and impacts the A/C.
