I think I figured out why your post made no sense. Could it be that you're referring to the CAOC Brit bar at AL UDEID? We're talking about AL DHAFRA. I thought the title of the thread would be a dead giveaway, but apparently not. Here's what I believe: "Muff's Place" (aka "The Thirsty Camel" at AL DHAFRA) was named after fellow U-2 pilot Maj Duane "Muff" Dively who perished on June 22, 2005 while returning to base after a mission over Afghanistan. So I suppose it has some indirect connection with "female genitalia", but I think you can understand my disgust with the svs pukes who renamed it for whatever simple-minded reason they had. Now get back to work - I just saw two guys with reflective belts on upside down - go get 'em!

Yep, I was there when he went down, worked on the recovery crew on the crash and was around when they renamed the bar. Really sad time. Whats even worse is people thinking it was named for muffins, brits etc. and that tribute to him was lost in the base move.

I was there January-June of this year; aircrew were in the dorms, 2 or 3 to a room. They were standard dorm rooms: 2 bunk beds, 2 wall lockers, 2 night stands, and bathrooms down the hall. I didn't see any conex huts, unless you're referring to the double-stacks.

I was referring to the double-stacks, sorry for the confusion.

The "wet-stacks" are mostly two to a room unless you are permanent party (365 TDYs/PCS) with enough rank or the right duty title. Only the special needs flyers get single rooms in them.

Latest update for anyone who's interested:

- Wifi is working great in the aircrew dorms; I'm on it right now. Good enough to video-Skype home with minimal problems late at night (local time). It's AF-provided, but there aren't any login/password shenanigans, and so far the only restrictions I've seen are porn, file-sharing, and gambling sites. Youtube, web mail, social-networking, forums, and the like all work fine. Can't speak for anyone else's dorms, but it's probably safe to assume they've got it too.

- As BF stated, aircrew rooms are pretty much 2-per. The only 3-per I see in my hall are crews that have a female among them, and the females have roomies as well. Wearing LtCol/CMSgt is no guarantee of having your own room if you're there as deployed aircrew on a multi-crewed airplane.

- The current leadership is pretty damn cool. The AEW/CC flies a couple times a month, and the EOG/CC flies once a week, with either the AWACS or the -10. Disco belts are NOT REQUIRED in the TCA unless you're Army, but that's their rules, not the AEW's. There is a conscious effort, voiced by the AEW/CC and Command Chief themselves, to not bust people's balls on nit-picky bullshit and maintain focus on the mission. It's quite refreshing.

- Chow hall's not bad at all. The salad bar is fresh and well-stocked, and the food's decent. No hand-washing/hand-sanitizing Nazis at the door; it's there if you want or need it, but no one's accusing you of letting the terrorists win if you don't. Disco belts are not required in the chowhall. The new Roy's is up and running.

Wifi is good except between 6-9pm. Permanent party housing isn't that bad. It's actually not that bad in general, except that there are too many people out here now. Everything is crowded, there is a beer/liquor shortage right now, and it's starting to get hot.
