    Gun Talk

Gents, It's always fun brainstorming out loud with fellow gun owners. I'm currently separated from the fiance due to work...and she likes the idea of her carrying a gun now for protection (A country girl and she's willing to take a class too...so she's prepared for it). So what should I get her? I am leaning towards a revolver since I have seen her try to rack the slide on a pistol...she doesn't seem to have the upper body strength to rack it easily. This worries me, since she might not be able to clear a malfunction. So in order of preference I am thinking of this: S&W 38 Bodyguard Ruger LCR w/XS Trijicon sights S&W J frame in .22 Mag Am I leaving anything out? (Not really impressed with the offerings from Taurus or Charter Arms)... I know .22 Mag is not ideal, but better than nothing when the chips are down.
  2. I have to say your updates are pretty enlightening... I thought the big draw (and talking points) of the JPARC was the fact that you can rule the roost up there. Looks like the company line isn't 100% true....who'da thunk it?
  3. Having done a long tour @ Eielson, I thought it was one of the last places where folks could be left alone. I wonder who the hell pitched this new rule? The past 353CTS/CCs I knew wouldn't have pushed this
  4. When I was at Eielson we were subjected to this policy from the get-go. Although it seemed us support types obeyed it, there was talk of OG leadership starting to enforce it too. I think PA might have done some passive-aggressive reporting on this... http://www.eielson.af.mil/photos/mediagallery.asp?galleryID=2383&?id=-1&page=44&count=12 Photo on the top right...
  5. Allow me to be the nit-picker...While it was published by SAF/PA on the website, it was written by Defense Media Activity. Yet another money-saving BRAC measure to make each service's PA/news gathering/COMCAM functions more efficient. You are talking about an already incredibly small community. 1 CTCS in Charleston and two other SQ's (@ Hill, and strangely enough in Lackland). I dont think you can squeeze much more blood from the stone. So if you liked this week's reporting, stay tuned for next week.
  6. Not that our elected officials are any better with the taxpayer's money. But... It's stories like these that remind me why the Armed Services committee wouldn't trust Big blue to negotiate a 36-month lease for a Chevy Aveo
  7. Who needs honor and integrity when you consider I bet she can smoke the PT test!!!!
  8. Take a gander at air force e-pubs... I believe there is an AFI on this issue search "officer seperations". Keep a an eye on the required timelines, they can be pretty picky from what I hear. I'd send a link but the internet isn't working with me
  9. Dude PM me, I think I know who you are talking about. This O-6 has salty written all over him, in fact I told him that if the commandant wanted to come in and take over the base, that he should go for it. I for one welcome our Marine overlords
  10. If the Army wants to make life difficult for all of us, maybe they should stick to naked detainee pyramid stacking competitions

K-VAR If any of you had a Kalashnikov Kraving... follow that link, the prices for well-constructed have become VERY reasonable. I think I just heard a democrat's sphincter pucker tight
  12. For those of us at the Deid... For shits and grins Who wants to go to the CC chow hall in the near future like a group of five us and construct one giant reflective belt and go through the line?
  13. I do believe this is the same "C U Next Tuesday" I saw at the BPC Chow Hall who was inspecting people for the ID card and visi-belt at Dinner time. I wonder if they have a course module at ACSC called "Field-Grade Hall Monitor"
  14. Page 69... This thread has milage
  15. Two SMALL victories... From the USAFCENT 36-2903 dated 19 OCT 09 2.3.10.2. Wear of the reflective belt is not required in the AFPTU. Because of the reflective nature of the AFPTU, COMUSAFCENT considers the AFPTU uniform as the equivalent of a “reflective belt” in joint and combined domains. If Airmen chose to wear the AFPTU running pants without reflective AF symbols, they must wear a reflective belt during the hours of darkness. 2.3.17. Sunglasses will never be placed on top of the head or hung from pockets or other parts of the uniform. Commanders may authorize the wear of a restraining strap on sunglasses and allow the glasses to hang on the front of the body, around the neck, in duty uniform and AFPTU. I don't know about you, I think I will run around tonight on AUAB with my PT gear and tell the first person who asks for a reflective belt to get bent. Here's the new reg for an FYI to all you out there in AFCENT-land USAFCENTI36-2903.pdf
  16. As a correction... it was not a bash on the CinC. It was directed at the "leadership at the 'died" Trying to make the point, dont do for one what you wouldnt do for others.... ergo, if we have a Ramadan memo....let's have a Rosh hashana memo...easter memo...pagan new year memo... But as a lot of the other dudes mentioned, the ramadan memo might have been window dressing...it didnt stop me from having pork at the chow hall.
  17. Any word if our great leader will be issuing a Rosh Hashanah memorandum? I mean if we have the time to amend AF 36-2903 69 times a day and issue a Ramadan memo it only makes sense...
  18. I think this has been covered in the board before, but to be clear, when we say shoe...we don't mean exclusively those of us in the ABUs, correct? Becuase when I look at these asinine regulations, they all come with a final signature which comes from a dude who is an operator. The new rules on crocs almost begs for a "Boston Tea Party" (i.e. wear your crocs everywhere but throw a towel over your shoulder and carry a bottle of shampoo.

Nope, that is an AR-15 pistol. You can tell since the buffer tube is bare, it does not have a stock attached to it. The finer points of federal firearms laws can get nasuating Follow this link http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&...288&page=37 There are some prime examples of what I am talking about.... I just hope this project doesn't turn into my money pit....I would love to have an AR-15 with a 12in .223 upper and a 7in 9mm upper with a surpressor. It sounds like I am the only one here that may have experience on this, I will make sure to post as this goes on

What I am looking at is a AR-15 with a buttstock and barrel less than 16 inches. An AR-15 pistol is built on a lower reciever marked from the factory for use as a pistol only (no stock, just a bare buffer tube). I have been doing some homework on this, and basically want one "just becuase I can" There is a lot more paperwork involved with a SBR though: File a ATF Form 1 Complete a FBI Fingerprint file with a local le agency $200 tax stamp check ATF citizenship verification form It's a little more upfront, but if you are into the hobby...it can be worth your time.

A question for the crowd. I know this thread has gotten some good milage. I was wondering if there were any baseops.net fans who have taken the plunge and filed the paperwork for a short barreled rifle or shotgun? I am going to go get my stripped AR-15 lower reciever engraved with the proper markings this weekend. I think I might toss some updates on the board and show some folks the wonderful world of NFA (national firearms act of 1934) firearms. -Pitt
  23. ummm..... I am using my PA Channels on this one, there might be a nugget of truth behind the original post. God help us all.... But then again, this is my chance to wear the Mr. Rodgers Cardigan....

Good pick, the first generation had some issues with the finish and rust but I had a LRS/CC who was a shooting buddy. He let me do some target work with his tactical model, very accurate and smooth trigger. What else could you want? As for me, I still shoot my FN Hi-Power in .40 but I am thinking of a S&W M&P. But I just spent nearly $800 on a car payment and taking my shop out to lunch. I might update this thread later, i am working on getting a short barreled AR-15 with a sound surpressor. If all goes smoothly, I will do a write up on how to do it.
