  1. Closest thread I could find to it, but saw a couple Lt's outprocessing. They failed out of IFS, the AF is booting them and handing them a bill for USAFA. I knew this happened a few years ago but hadn't heard of it recently. Anyone heard about this or know why this is happening?

How do you graduate USAFA but fail out of IFS? Surely it isn't that difficult. WTF?

The AF is overmanned with officers right now, thus no need to keep them around - especially when the AF can get reimbursed for their schooling.

Doesn't seem like a wise long-term decision...but we all know how good the AF is at long range planning...

  2. I went through the process with Bradley Morris several years ago and had positive results. I drove to one of their job fairs in Atlanta with my only expectation being to get practice interviewing. They set me up with 5 interviews that day and I ended up getting offers from 3 of them. Unfortunately, all of them would have required relocation which would have been a no-go with my ANG unit (and CINC-House) so had to decline the offers.

Overall, I was pleased with their process, communication, and results.

  3. .. that would require the AF to acknowledge that some career fields are more equal than others.

Hey, I just found out about 69 seconds ago that there is actually an AFI covering this sort of shit. Guess I will have to stop discriminating now.

Practice bleeding (PME correspondence + residence) to stop. No word yet on how they will implement this, but my very simple suggestion would be to not allow enrollment in the appropriate correspondence course until after someone is no longer eligible for their residence PME course.

ThreeHoler, that is a fantastic idea. Hopefully someone will listen.

  4. The leadership at my Guard base is forcing us to use PT gear for all PT tests starting in October. This should probably go in the "WTF?" thread. For all the other Guard guys, is this coming your way?

Not in my neck of the woods. Haven't heard of it at any other unit either FWIW.

  5. I was there running the race when this happened. I was about 100 yds from the second blast just turning on Boylston St (the finish line). I had three friends that were running ahead of me less than 20' from the blast. They are all fine.

I heard the two blasts. I thought two large transformers had exploded. Initially the police on the course had no idea what was happening, but, I could hear there radios chattering like mad. There was lots of confusion but not much panic. People close to the scene jumped in to help. The rest of us just did the best we could to clear the area.

Despite the horrible crap going down...congrats on the race. Hope you got to finish at least. It's terrible that this senseless act ruined what was supposed to be such a good day for so many people.

  6. Just thought I'd post this note.

I've been retired from the AF since 1993 and use TriCare as a suppliment to Medicare. The hospital in my community of 127,000 people, advised last month that as of April 1st 2013, they will no longer accept TriCare insurance.

Just another indicator of things to come.

    Ltc. JW

I haven't heard of a current patient being shown the door, but have seen quite a few doctors and dentists that won't take new patients with TriCare. I've asked some of them about it, and the typical answer is because they don't pay as much and they are a pain to deal with. Shocking, I know.

  7. I called the guy a few weeks ago and they're not taking reserve or ANG part-timers, just AGR. They don't have the money to fund man-days and have enough AD volunteers to last thru CY14.

I am sure the Guard AGRs are lining up out the door for that opportunity.

    :bash:

  8. I had to go do an interview last week with the ADC (Whole 'nuther story) and the paralegal TSgt in there made the mistake of telling me he used to be in Tops in Blue. I said "So, do you think with the Thunderbirds getting cut, they will too?"

*Confused look because he is obviously used to people congratulating him or ooooooh-ing and ahhhhhh-ing over him being in TIB* "Uh no, we have outside sponsors."

*Me, getting angrier* "Do those outside sponsors pay for the jet fuel to haul you people all over the world?"

*More confusion* "We only fly Space A..."

    *Me* "Facepalm"

Suggested response if you are ever in a similar situation

"Man, bet you are happy that being gay is legal now!"

  9. I know this is a Pepsi commercial, but with 10 million views in less than 72 hours, I'm sure the marketing folks at Chevrolet are pretty happy right now.

Jeff Gordon is sponsored by both Pepsi and GM. He drives a Chevy. I'm sure it was no accident he was driving a Camaro rather than a Mustang.

  10. Are you saying your CC assigned you to a deployment as punishment for looking at the Guard?

That wouldn't shock me. Typical box-checker O-5 bullshit these days.

what does palace chase and palace front mean? I saw it on a document the other day and I always thought it was just a phrase you guys here at baseops used..

Jesus man, take .69 seconds and use Google. The first hit will tell you.

OMG somebody please embed this for me. Typing from phone. You will laugh your ass off!!

    Left a comment for her...doubt it'll last:

I think I just had a brain aneurysm.

You do realize that the United States Air Force is a COMBAT AIR FORCE, right?

Jesus Tapdancing Christ. With Jazz Hands.

    YGBSM!

I'm nearly speechless. Honestly. It frightens me that people like this are actually in my service. FML.

  12. It was something like 8 tankers for the whole flight. I think the B-52 had a 36-hr flight round trip.

Sounds about right. I was the form lead for a three ship and our jets were turned for a two ship later that day.

While it seems like a colossal waste of money...it does prove the point that we are the only AF in the world that can pull stuff like this off (sts) and was actually good training.

  13. Hey everybody,

The gouge I've found over this topic is a little dated, so hopefully somebody has more current info.

    Below is my situation:

My unit submitted my pilot application package to the guard bureau this week (Monday) and said it will take 6-8 weeks to receive training dates (AMS, UPT, etc).

Can anybody say that is a fairly accurate waiting time (I know everybody is different)? Is it 'normally' longer/shorter than that? I only ask because my wife was going to come with me to UPT but was just recently offered a very attractive job opportunity (one that cannot be passed up). However, we have a son that is due in the middle of February so we want to keep everybody together (as much as possible). The company who offered her the job said they would consider her working from home if they could know where 'home' would be (aka which UPT base if she came with me). But that is only a consideration, not set in stone.

Overall, the company said they would wait to hear back from my wife, who is waiting to hear for my dates, so we are unsure how long the company will hold off. If it came down to it (worse case scenario) my wife and newborn would move to FL (where the job is) and I would be at UPT (but as a new father, I'd like to avoid that if at all possible, and I know that military life requires family separation, but if I can minimize it, I will).

I know everybody's story and waiting time is different, I was just wondering if anybody had any current info and/or experience on the matter.

Thanks for any and all help.

    -Chem

Your timeline sounds about right to me, and perhaps the PoC at your unit can help speed things along and pass along your base request.

Having said that, I doubt a civilian company will wait 6-9 weeks for a decision. While your timeline is reasonable, I wouldn't hinge your whole plan on NGB following it.

  14. Seriously? Our ORI is in June and, as far as I know, we're still full up with fly-away ORE and ORI. How the hell did you guys score that deal?

Our base compiled a list of our contributions to various missions since our last ORI, forwarded it to the AMC/IG and a few months later they came back with a pretty flattering letter saying, "you guys have busted your ass...ORI is now 4 hours, etc etc".

This whole process was brought up during a recent AMC/CC visit where he asked, "Didn't you get ORI credit for your ONE/OIF/OEF/OND/OUP work?". So we asked for credit and got it.
