  1. Downtown Aviation -- Memphis. Cannot recommend more.

Flew once on Friday, checked on Saturday. 3.7 total hrs. Walked out of that place with ticket in hand for less than $1500 and that INCLUDES the examiner fee.

I had to chase down crazy Carl Nuzzo to get on his schedule -- screw that. There are MUCH better options out there for military guys.

FWIW - Last I heard, Downtown Aviation is booked all the way thru the end of May with military guys.

  2. Yes, but will they count Military training and sim time as suficient to meet the requirements stated in the new rules.

    Who cares?

UPT is around 270 hours....equates to about 6 months in AMC. 1500 hours can EASILY be flown in 3-5 years for the average line guy.

Personally, I don't think the military kids should worry about getting their ATP until they are at the end of their respective ADSC....then, your discussion is obsolete as everyone would have the minimums. After a 10 yr ADSC, most AMC guys are around 2500-3000....

    What is your point again?

  3. The required training (caveat, as I understand it) is a little insane.

I don't disagree with you (per se), but you'd have to agree that the families of Colgan 3407 thought the industry minimums were a bit low, as did the FAA - which is what started this whole change.

Being that it will take a standard military guy 2-3 years to be eligible for the ATP, I think the training is adequate. It keeps the SJS kids held back just a little and might evoke some additional learning that might prove useful in years to come. When your wife and kids are on the plane, wouldn't you want the most qualified crew to fly them?

Remember, someone shits, we all wear diapers.

  4. Anyone have any updated info? What's the legs on that thing? Will/does it make it across the Atlantic or Pacific? Would it be a good choice for a 4000 hour major who will probably be passed over for Lt Col, just wants to fly and would prefer not to wear blues?

I can answer that…MAX legs are about 4.5 hours, to land with your reserve. Anything over 2 hours and you are hurting because of the size of the plane.

It doesn't fly across the pond on a single leg. I've done the Atlantic trip 8-10 times from Ramstein when I was there. Nobody stretches the legs because of the need to land and piss….

Ramstein - Prestwick (About 2 hours)

Prestwick - Keflavik (About 3 hours)

Keflavik - Sonde (about 2.5 hours -- required a special vert (don't know if that is still the case)

Sonde - St John, Bangor (if winds allowed (3 hours))

** At the time, we weren't allowed in the Oceanic Airspace due to our avionics. The routes were called "Blue Spruce Routes". I don't know what the current trend is.

There are also occasional Rota to Azores legs….

C-21's don't fly in the Pacific anymore since they were pulled from Yokota. Still, they had simple legs like we had in Europe.

  5. If it is anything like TERA, it'll be year group + AFSC to determine eligibility and then the following:

    1. Once determined eligible they will change the rules

    2. They take those determined eligible and determine if you are eligible;this will take 10 days depending on the eligibility of the eligible

    3. The eligible that are determined they are eligible will tell their boss they are eligible... but only if they are eligible based on the new matrix of eligibility

    4. Within 24 hours your boss will forward the e-mail from AFPC with your G-5 assignment to Aruba that has now been turned off

    5. 3 weeks later Chang's 12 year old nephew will compare the list of applicants to the closing credits of the movie The Matrix and deny all of those not listed

    6. Butters will say this proves there is no airline hiring boom coming

    7. AFPC will announce a new $500K/10 year bonus for all TCN Escorts

    8. Masters degree requirement will be masked on all promotion boards in favor of the new PhD requirement

    9. FY 15 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA) thread started on Baseops.net by Rainman

And that my friends sums up the entire last 2 months of BOPS.net forums.....plus some nice T & A pics.

  6. I'd like to know who the approving authority is....for all we know, it's some SrA or GS-3 sorting out paperwork....

I like the solution of having your CC call up there to see *why* you were denied when everything initially showed you were eligible. Doesn't make sense. looks like all your boxes were properly checked.

    Scratching both my heads...?

  7. From AFI 36-2110

    http://static.e-publishing.af.mil/production/1/af_a1/publication/afi36-2110/afi36-2110.pdf

5.5.2. For Officers: If there are not enough volunteers, AFPC will use modified short tour

selection rules. Non Volunteers are prioritized based on number of short tours, short tour

return date (STRD) and overseas duty selection date (ODSD). Officers serving overseas long

tours may be used as a resource to fill these taskings. Officers must have sufficient time

remaining on their current tour (before DEROS) to be selected as a non-volunteer, i.e. 30-

days upon return from deployment to out-process their respective unit. Officers not selected

for promotion that have a mandatory DOS established and are otherwise not eligible for 3

day option (see Figure 5.2) are not eligible for selection as a non-volunteer unless they have

at least 7 months retainability following the expected deployment return date.

  8. I was going to use crazy Carl Nuzzo, but that guy is way to disorganized for me to even thinking about doing business with him.

There is a another guy in Memphis at Downtown Aviation - Dr. Morris Ray. His number is on the web. LOTS and LOTS of Navy guys have gone to him, and a bunch of PIT IP's like myself have him booked for the next month or 2. If you care about his pricing:

    $295 per hour/dual

    $300 examiner fee

    $40 hr/ground instruction

He stated that you'll get 1x 2.5 hour sortie flying a BE-76. 1x 1.7-2.0 check ride….the profile is emailed to you. Also, requires about 2 hours of ground instruction.

Total price if you go alone is about $1700, if you have a friend - about $1500.

** He also said that a female KMEM C-17 Guard pilot is also an examiner out there -- her examiner fee is $400.

  9. IIRC, there is a minimum TOS, but being around longer doesn't directly moe you up the list. It's all about your short tour return date.

I say it doesn't directly move you up the list, but if he guy ahead of you only has 1 week TOS, pretty sure it's coming your way. Make sense?

33% correct. Your 365 vulnerability relies on 3 things: Short Tour Return Date, # of Short Tours, and Overseas Return Date -- some 365's also carry a rank requirement, but that's another story (+/- 1 rank to support).

In addition, you have to have a minimum of 45 days TOS (IIRC) to be deployable, and also, if you have done an AEF deployment, you are "safe" 6 months after your return. In addition, you have to have enough retainability (ADSC) to complete your deployment and return with 30 days left.

-- All of this information can be found on AEF Online thru the portal.

  10. SecAF words:

    http://www.airforcemag.com/Features/Pages/2014/A-Systemic-Problem.aspx

Seven observations from her recent trip:

    1. Too much stress and too much fear. Few rewards and severe punishments.

    2. Need to separate training and testing. Need to learn from mistakes.

    3. There must be accountability at leadership levels, not just cheaters.

    4. Re-evaluate professional and leadership development. SECDEF will help.

    5. We need to reinvigorate core values. Must report wrongdoing.

    6. We need incentives, accolades and recognition for the nuke force. Including special nuke medals.

    7. We need more money and manpower because the roofs leak.

Didn't they get flight suits; that wasn't enough? What's next, Bronze Stars.

Edited: I can't critically think after Mons Venus.

  11. Incorrect. There is a block that lists whether you took the ACP or not. I think you can see it if you go in to the vMPF or ADP versions of your SURF.

Huh? I didn't take it, and it is nowhere on vMPF, my SURF, records.....where is this block?

The ONLY thing on my records is my ADSC (GI Bill transfer). If you go thru your records, and this is processed, then your ADSC will reflect it.
